Hi there everyone
I've not posted before but felt so fed up today I'm hoping to use the hive mind to improve my mood.
I'm approaching 60, single parent for the last 15 years after a long unhappy marriage. Currently I'm working 5 short days a week in a stressful health care role, whilst caring for my elderly parents, mum is terminally ill with breast cancer, and my 2 adult DC at home because they are ASD.
I have been really careful with Covid precautions and have successfully worked through all the lock-downs to keep our very vulnerable patients in the unit free from this virus.
I was tested at work as usual on Friday and tested negative. Started to feel increasingly unwell over the weekend so got a drive through test on Sunday and was notified by text that I was positive on Monday morning.
I feel pretty grim, bad cough, aches and fatigue, hoping that the vaccination I had 10 days ago will mean that avoid a hospital admission.
My problem is that I am really annoyed about catching this, I have a background studying microbiology and have taken all precautions possible whilst continuing to work and care for my family.
I'm fuming with people who don't wear masks, my neighbours are still having parties every Friday and in the supermarket locally I have seen staff members not wearing masks (I'm aware they may have a health exemptions) but what about the gangs of teenagers hanging around on the streets? The people who wear masks incorrectly?,
I have potentially risked the health of all my colleagues and patients (hopefully the PPE will help prevent any transmission)
Cheer me up Gransnetters please any funny stories greatly appreciated or cat photos are equally acceptable 2 of my terrors are attached.

You are a star to do so much and help so many. Please look after yourself and I hope for once you are looked after. This is my Skye a few months ago looking for squirrels to chase!!!......obviously no success!!!

Cat out, baby in!

I’m so sorry that you’ve caught the dreaded virus in spite of your stringent precautions. I’m also a bit depressed for myself and my age group who will hopefully be called for vaccination this week! Get well soon.

winifred01 Tue 19-Jan-21 12:37:31

Is it possible that pets could carry the virus?

polnan Tue 19-Jan-21 12:33:42

Love that quote of Shelley`s...

I have just been for my jab. so very well organised. etc.. can`t fault them, huge building,, lots of people,, reminded me of sci fi

I have often thought the deniers should be put in an intensive care unit,, bit harsh I admit, and intruding on the dedicated nurses/doctors/porters etc! saw the porter whose wife had so very , very recently died, and he was carrying on.

amazing..
so put some of the deniers, the ring leaders, in a huge vaccine unit... let them see if not real!

imo we are too soft here

You poor thing, do hope you're feeling better soon.
I do agree with your frustrations over the anti maskers, they don't seem to realise that as well as causing deaths they're mainly responsible for the lock downs that are ruining our country and their lives
I'm attaching a photo of Max my dog, he has an infected callous and won't leave it alone! hence the Tshirt

Sending you best wishes for a speedy recovery. Our whole household went down with it. I've never felt so ill in my life and lost nearly a stone in weight (no bad thing!) and husband ended up in hospital. But none of us had had the vaccine, so hopefully it will not affect you so badly and you will be over it soon. We don't have any pets, but here is a picture of my sister's puppy helping with the laundry.

So very sorry my lovely.
Everything seems so much bigger and so much worse when you are ill. It will all come right. The sun will shine again.
Take special care. xxx

Here is our cat enjoying the raised bed in the Summer! Just think, as the poet Shelley wrote: When winter comes, can Spring be far behind?.

Sandfly, I am not a cat person but found that truly clever and entertaining. Thank you.

SueDonim Tue 19-Jan-21 11:56:16

Get well soon, Notagranyet! You’ve a lot to cope with, by the sounds of it. flowers

So very sorry to hear this - and doubly irritating because of having been super cautious. I hope you'll have a quick recovery, and maybe spoil yourself in the process, if it's possible. I took the photo this morning - three Tel Aviv cats keeping warm on top of a wheely-bin.

Shinamae Tue 19-Jan-21 11:52:47

Rotten luck.......hope you feel better soon ???

Incafarmer Tue 19-Jan-21 11:50:54

Best wishes from me and my Burmese kittens.
Hope you feel better soon.

EmilyHarburn Tue 19-Jan-21 11:48:45

Wishing you all the best and a quick full recovery.

Grammaretto Tue 19-Jan-21 11:47:57

Dear Notagranyet1234 .
So sorry to hear you have contracted the awful virus. I hope you are young enough and fit enough to throw it off quickly.

The cats and other animals are lovely.
and even the jokes
I couldn't help noticing several cats allowed to share beds.
When we had a cat, she was not allowed upstairs but she did find the sunniest spots in the garden.

Delila Tue 19-Jan-21 11:43:58

Best wishes from Fred and me.

susieq3 Tue 19-Jan-21 11:38:00

Sorry , notagranny 1234, meant to wish you a speedy recovery. Keep your chin up.

The government website advises people with cats and dogs to wash hands after handling as they’re currently researching as to whether it can transmit from pets to owners. They have instances of animals with Covid. Although a long shot, I would think it’s worth keeping cats indoors if possible during the pandemic. I don’t pet dogs that run up to me during a walk (they should be on leads in my view).

susieq3 Tue 19-Jan-21 11:35:50

I don’t have any pets, but thought this was quite amusing

Craftycat Tue 19-Jan-21 11:31:06

Sorry- all 4 cats ran a mile when they saw camera!!

Craftycat Tue 19-Jan-21 11:30:40

If it is any consulation my neighbours had Covid a week or so back- 11 year old daughter brought it home from school- & they are fine now. They just had to stay indoors for 2 weeks. Boring but necessary. They are all 100% fine now. We did not even know as they just battened down the hatches & got food delivered. We would have done their shopping gladly if they had told us.
Keep warm & keep cheerful- great box sets on TV to watch.

I am so sorry to hear of your positive test! I am 63 and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in general practice nursing - retired now, fortunately! I had to retire early due to health problems and it hit me very hard mentally. I live with my husband in an unhappy relationship, and my 26 year old son with ASD and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is still living at home. Lockdown is torture for me and I feel very trapped! I do my best to keep myself and others safe, but I do worry about getting Covid-19, as I have a mask exemption due to very severe facial eczema and also asthma! My 2 cats and my dog are the only things keeping me sane! Sending hugs to you - socially distant ones, of course! xx

Hi Notagranyet1234, sorry to hear you’ve got Covid and you’re feeling bad with it. Let’s hope the vaccine will keep you out of hospital and you feel better soon.
I don’t have any cats to share and my hens are avoiding the rain so not really up for photos. Stay safe!
