I had the letter - my appointment for tomorrow is just 6 miles away.

I've had my Vac. today. I am amazed at how well organised the Centre is. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful.Thank you NHS

We had a text yesterday afternoon and made an appointment fir today. It’s done, we are home. We had Astra Zeneca. Think that’s the one which hasn’t been overly tested on the older population....appointment given in 12 weeks for the second. Sitting with a cuppa and a biscuit treat feeling happy.

My clinically vulnerable husband got his appointment this week for a week's time - at a local school very close to our GP surgery. As I understand it, if you get the letter and only have options that are many miles away, if you wait you will get an invite from your GP to somewhere far more local. Its still not ideal for us - he has severe COPD and we will need to get taxis both ways - but I am so relieved he has finally got his appointment!

What I would love to know is why a few friends of mine who live in Suffolk and Norfolk have had, or have appointments for the vaccination. They are all the same age as me (73) and have no underlying medical conditions. I think a lot of the vaccine meant for the North of England has been diverted to the South !!! no one I know here in the NE of my age has been notified yet (well, not in my area anyway !) ...makes you wonder !

I was very fortunate to be offered my first Pfizer on Tuesday. No side effects. Second one due in April. It will be good once the whole world has received theirs as don’t think we will be back to proper normal until they have.

My cousin received a text message at 9:00 a.m. asking her if she would be available for a vaccination at midday. She took up the offer, of course.

My DD’s in-laws were quite ill for several days after the vaccine, nausea, headaches and sore arms. DH just has a sore arm and says he feels tired-though he thinks that’s with not sleeping, worrying about the vaccine. He had AstraZeneca, they had Pfizer. I always have a bad reaction to flu jabs. I don’t know which COVID vaccine I’ll get.

Surely they can’t book if they are not eligible ?

My OH yesterday had a text from GP..... and a letter from the NHS saying to book his appt.
Both notifications have a barcode that he has to take to the vaccination centre of choice within our County.
Surely if the barcode is read on entry, all those people who are purportedly booking illegally, should be refused at point of entry.
That would seem sensible? We're in Warks and OH is 74.

I heard a rumour that you might have more side effects from the Oxford one than the Pfizer, but it might just be a rumour. ?

We both had our jabs (Pfizer) at the GP surgery this morning. We both had phone calls, his nearly a week after mine but his apt was an hour before! Also had an NHS letter in the wek telling me to ring for a vaccination apt but didn't, as I had this one booked. There is definitely some parallelism going on!

Our GP has just phoned and booked us in for Monday morning. DH had already booked through his letter for the week after next at another venue so he has cancelled that.

Of course there is cross referencing. That’s why they are so careful to ensure your bring your NHS number.

My 86 year old dad had his in Wales last Wednesday - no side effects and said it was the easiest jab he’s had!

Just had mine this afternoon, lots of people there ,soon in and out, but 20 minutes to wait before you could leave
A few questions asked before jab, re are you a carer ,on blood thinners, any symptoms etc
Feeling fine, got a card with details of vaccine and leaflet re any side effects etc
I don't know anyone personally who has had any side effects

I had the Astra Zeneca vaccination a week ago and did have side effects. The shot was early in the morning and all was fine but when I went to bed the shakes and shivers started. I took paracetamol but still felt a bit flu-ish all the next day. Fine after that though. My husband had his on Thursday and felt a bit iffy yesterday but, again, is now OK.

I had my Astra Zeneca jab yesterday and went to bed with a slightly sore arm.

Woke up at 5am, shivering with cold even though I am never cold in bed and my arm felt like somebody had taken a sledge hammer to the top of it. Managed to get out of bed to go to the loo and get a glass of water and some paracetamol then laid on top of the electric blanket for two hours until the shivers subsided - then I was boiling hot!

My arm is still very sore but the flu like symptoms have almost disappeared. No appetite and no energy.

Can't wait to do it all again in a few weeks.

GreyKnitter - I too was volunteering at a hospital until March. I was contacted by them and offered the jab which I gratefully accepted. I am in the clinically extremely vilnerable category plus being 71, but have not yet been contacted by my GP. You are entitled to your jab.

It would save a lot of time if they just told people that...obviously there are plenty of slots available. We are lucky that our vax hub is only 5 minutes away!

I am pleased to hear that! - it would seem that you do bot need a letter, but simply have to be in the right age/priority group.

DH had a call last Sunday afternoon to ask if he could attend the next day, at the fire station five mins away. We went and were back home in less than half an hour. Very pleased and impressed.

Warning - watch out for scams. I received an email apparently from the NHS which offered me a vaccination which I could accept or decline. It looked very official. I accepted and the next page gave me 2 dates and what i thought was a time 5.00 GBP I had to give my name address d.o.b. The next page was for my debit or credit card details in order to pay £5 reservation fee - I then realsed it was a scam and deleted it all. I phone our GP and was told the NHS never contacts anyone by email. Only post or text or phone. There is no fee of any sort for the vaccinations so if you are asked for a payment please don't do it. I hope everyone's vaccinations go well. I'm still waiting for mine!

Before COVID I was a volunteer at my local hospital but stopped due to the risk back in March. Yesterday I had a call from the local hospital offering me a vaccine next week - I’m 67 and not vulnerable. I was quite speechless and said I didn’t think I deserved it but was told that now the staff have almost all been done then all volunteers are offered the jab in the hope that they will then be able to come back and support their local hospital again. I did accept but still feel a bit guilty. I wonder what there’s would have done.

GreyKnitter Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. They want you to go back to volunteering at the hospital and in order to do that they want you to be safe.

BlueBell i am surprised that people who don't have side effects don't have such a good immune system,
I always thought I did,as I seem to miss everything going, even when those around me are suffering stomach bugs,flu etc
Never had a day in bed ill in my life as an adult, but had everything when I was very young
The only thing I have had in the last few years was Shingles,and could have had a vaccine if only I had known, as I was the right age, but only found out afterwards
My son had Swine flu when it was about, none of the rest of us caught it
