Jab on Tuesday!

Hurrah! My husband and I have just had ours this morning at the local GP surgery. The AstraZeneca one. Feeling ok so far.

Our GP is certainly ahead of the game. We got a call over a week ago asking us if we would like to nip down and have the vaccine there and then. There is also a hub operating in town. We got letters from NHS telling us to ring for a jab but of course it was not necessary.
It will be interesting to see how the second jab will be administered although not too worried about this as we had the Astra Zenica one.

I just got a phone call from my surgery and arranged a time of my convenience the following Saturday at another surgery 2 miles away. Really well organised. Very impressed. North Leeds. I was vaccinated on time sat in airy pleasant room for 15 minutes and then drive home.

I got a text from my surgery. Click on link to book vaccination.
When I clicked on it, I had a choice of four gp surgeries.
They were all unavailable but managed in the end to get one for today at our local hospital.
I also received. Letter yesterday inviting me to book a vaccination.
I have ignored that as no need now, or is there.
A bit confusing.

Letters are definitely being delayed in the post. The website will not let you book if you’re not eligible. Had our jabs on Thursday, the letter came today.
Please just book it if the website will let you!!

It's getting very confusing and I heard on my local news yesterday that there are some "scam" letters circulating purporting to be from the NHS.
I had my vaccination (Pfizer) 3 weeks ago invited by my GP surgery via a phone call. Yesterday my DH had an NHS letter (genuine) inviting him to book an online appointment but he's already had his jab (Oxford Astrazenica) six days ago at his GP surgery. More concerning for us now is how long the gap will be before we get our our second jabs...

We had ours last Tuesday. Partner had a call from surgery offering the Tuesday appointment. He’s two years older than me 73 but asked if I could go as well as I have copd. Said we could go together which we did, no problem, very efficient and in and out in about 30 minutes. Both had side effects, shivering, temperature and generally off. I felt ok after 24 hours but my partner was still under the weather till yesterday. All fine today. This was the Oxford one, feel very grateful to have had it as we have friends who are older and not been sent for yet

Before COVID I was a volunteer at my local hospital but stopped due to the risk back in March. Yesterday I had a call from the local hospital offering me a vaccine next week - I’m 67 and not vulnerable. I was quite speechless and said I didn’t think I deserved it but was told that now the staff have almost all been done then all volunteers are offered the jab in the hope that they will then be able to come back and support their local hospital again. I did accept but still feel a bit guilty. I wonder what there’s would have done.

I had my first Pfizer vaccination on Dec 22nd, the second date was Jan 12. This was cancelled 2 days before and I haven't been given another date.
I wonder if anyone else is in the position and how do we get a second date.

No, it’s not, it’s organised differently. Instead of being given an appointment, in my part of England we’re invited to make one, and have a choice of hub or local venue. From all I’ve heard the organisation has been excellent.

Both my husband and I were offered appointments by text, which we accepted gratefully, but two days later we had a letter offering appointments! It seems such a waste of effort and money to be sending letters out unnecessarily, but it must be such a logistical nightmare and I’d rather be invited twice than not at all. I had a sore arm and a bit of a headache the day after. Husband fine. Well, he didn’t moan more than usual!

Just read this and husband aged 70 has just logged on and has his first jab booked for Wednesday morning the second jab in April. So relieved for him and thanks to everyone for the advice about by passing the letter question.

My oh had his last Saturday our gp surgery rang on Thursday before offering appointment at local hub .
He had astracenica one ,he didn't get any side effects .

I don't know if its more organised I Scotland but I got a letter yesterday giving me a date for my first on Saturday 4th Feb and the second at the same time and place 12 weeks later. No problems about booking or travelling many miles Mine is within a 5 mile radius of home.

Just received a letter from the NHS saying we could book on line but the only centres available were more than 30 miles away. Next day we received a letter from our doctors surgery to book a vaccination slot, which we have done, and now only have to travel 6 miles which is a lot better than travelling more than 30.

We had a text yesterday and going tomorrow. Slight problem our appointments are an hour apart so will ask if we can be done at the same time. Otherwise a wait, hopefully not in the rain. Either way, I am delighted.

Got our jabs booked for Wednesday at the GP hub in our district council area. They are doing both of us even though we are in two categories, over 70 and over 75. So relieved.

DH’s came by text message from our local medical practice for an appointment at a mass vaccination centre. Choose your appointment day and time. Turn up, you are checked in on a computer to make sure you have a genuine appointment, questioned by doctor about various points, then vaccinated, given a card with vaccine and date and an information sheet about before and after the vaccine and sent away.
3 improvements need to be made.
First, give the information sheet out to folk queueing, not after the vaccine.
Second, warn people that they may be waiting in a queue outside for over an hour in the rain.
Third, open the windows in the waiting room. Over 24 people in a room about the size of a classroom. not counting staff. He hadn’t been in such a crowded unventilated environment filled with potentially asymptomatic people since last March and it takes a while before protection kicks in.

Fake news about the poor efficacy in the over 65s

Fake news. A leading vaccine doctor was on the news saying that France and Germany had obviously not read the vaccine reports properly. I am not worried.

Surely there has to be some kind of cross referencing of those turning up and those who are genuinely elligible at whatever stage. If there wasn't there would be the weirdos turning up at different sites on different days and having the vaccine. If there isn't any cross referencing the system is a mess.

I received a text from my surgery on Thursday afternoon offering me the vaccination at my local hub, with a link to click, which I clicked immediately. I had to identify myself with DoB, was given today and chose a time.

All done in a couple of minutes, and I am going this afternoon which is only 48 hours after receiving the text. Brilliant service.

Just had mine this afternoon, lots of people there ,soon in and out, but 20 minutes to wait before you could leave
A few questions asked before jab, re are you a carer ,on blood thinners, any symptoms etc
Feeling fine, got a card with details of vaccine and leaflet re any side effects etc
I don't know anyone personally who has had any side effects

I had the Astra Zeneca vaccination a week ago and did have side effects. The shot was early in the morning and all was fine but when I went to bed the shakes and shivers started. I took paracetamol but still felt a bit flu-ish all the next day. Fine after that though. My husband had his on Thursday and felt a bit iffy yesterday but, again, is now OK.

Well it was two weeks ago I got a letter from the NHS, I had a choice of Leeds Bradford or York. I chose York being the easiest to get to from here. In the evening I had a text from the surgery so followed the instructions and had mine last week in the Great Yorkshire Showground - much more convenient!! Yesterday I received and email invitingh me to make my first appointment!!!!

Oh it's Pfizer not Phizer. I thought it looked wrong but couldnt think why !!
