Delayed reaction to vaccine

I had my AZ vaccine on thursday just feel vaguely unwell, tiredness,muscle aches, raised glands, heady feeling and generally wanting to curl up in bed and stay there.

I had the AZ vaccine on Tuesday, and DH had his last Thursday. No side effects between us, not even a sore arm. We did take paracetamol for 24 hours afterwards, which may have helped.

We were half expecting side effects, as we both had a reaction for the first time ever after this year’s flu jab. With that in mind, I think it’s wrong to imply that side effects are all in the mind, or that the lack of them means the vaccine’s not working or your immune system is somehow defective.

We’re just glad to have had our first dose!

I have an amazing immune system, I haven’t had a cold or flu in the last 30 years. I don’t get side effects either. My mother used to get every side effect going to any medicine prescribed so I removed the explanatory leaflet that came with her prescribed medicine. Worked a treat.
Yesterday we got the Pfizer vaccination, no side effects.

Thanks FoghornLeghorn I was hoping no reactions/side effects didn’t mean a weak immune system or that the vaccine hadn’t worked.

I believe if you have side effects it’s because your immune system is working well if you have no symptoms it shows your immune system needs help
I haven’t heard anyone having symptoms 5 or more days afterwards though

This is not true at all so people reading this needn’t worry that they have a defective immune system.

I’m having my first dose tomorrow so shall watch for side effects & try & decide if they’re real or imaginary

One interesting thing that came out of the webinar that I watched yesterday was that during the trials, the incidence of side effects in people who had the vaccine was the the same as in people who had the placebo.
Food for thought ?

Yesterday my upper arm was itchy and felt inflamed and I was rubbing it, thinking it was a two-week delayed reaction after the vaccination and was trying to have a look in the mirror to see if it was red.

I then remembered that the vaccination was in the other arm!

BlueBelle I read that you don’t actually need side effects to prove that the vaccine is working for you. Just in case people worry if they don’t get any!

DH and I had Astra Zeneca jab on Wednesday. I had really bad shivers, headache and aches DH has been fine. I feel much better today. No complaints I was just pleased to have it.

I started a thread a few weeks ago about my husband having 3 nights of terrible headaches 2 weeks after the Pfizer jab. He is not prone to headaches. The GP said it couldn’t be connected and was not an ITA. Blood tests have not shown anything up. It will be interesting to see what happens after the second jab at the end of the month.

Dragonfly I didn't at all mean to suggest that your reaction might have been due to anything other than the vaccine - I hope you didn't think that.
I just thought it was an interesting observation to have come out of the symptom study.

I know a few people who had the two vaccines within two weeks (before they changed the rules). Every one of them sailed through the first jab, but was ill after the second one. I wonder if the longer time gap may be a good thing.

I had the AZ jab fairly early in the morning a week ago. No reaction until around 12 hours later, when I suddenly had quite bad fluey shivers and shakes. Went straight to bed but had to get dh to bring up my usual cup of tea - I was so shaky I thought I’d spill it.
All fine again by the following morning though.
I was reassured by my reaction - it showed that something was happening!
Dh had same jab a week earlier, no reaction at all

Mine was definitely not the placebo effect as I thought I had sailed through it over the weekend, having had it on the Friday, but on Tuesday I started to ache all over and had a headache which went on for three days. It was not bad enough to get a Covid test and also as I am shielding I hadn't been anywhere except to the doctor's surgery. I will see what happens at the next one.

Well, I think that's almost always the case with the placebo effect.

I was watching people in the waiting area, afterwards.

Some were rubbing their hand and arm, others just on their phones, checking their watches..

When I was a child my parents used to take me and my 3 siblings to France each year camping - we had to have endless ‘jabs’ - typhoid, para typhoid, tetanus, polio boosters etc etc ! We all had different reactions.
So we will all have different reaction to the covid vacs. It’s common with baby jabs to be told to give calpol so I think it’s fine for us to take paracetamol if we feel rotten.

They were "doing" two at a time when I had it.
The nurse with the other patient told her "before we start, I must tell you take 2 paracetamol as soon as you get home."

She was a bit taken aback, as was I (they say eavesdroppers never hear anything good)

He said there was no point sugar coating things.

My nurse said none of that to me.

DH had the Pfizer one a last Thursday, I had the AZ one this Tuesday.
We both have had out-of- sorts- type days since, hard to tell whether they are related to the jabs or not.

I liked oopsadaisy's post, made me chuckle, . (wish there was a "like" thingy on GN).

I had the Pfizer one with absolutely no side effects at all. My colleague was very headachey afterwards and was physically sick the day after. I think it all depends on the individual.

I had the Pfizer one on monday, and have had a really achey wrist, elbow and back of my shoulder on that side.
I also felt a bit woozy the next day.

To be fair though, I've felt quite unwell for a long time now.

DH had his his jab afternoon.
He had the AZ one, so, we shall see if he gets any side effects.

Just in case, I got him to all the jobs I had lined up for him this morning before he went.
