The caterpillar is sitting on the psychedelic mushroom, what use is the unicorn? Not that I’m ungrateful NellG

I hope that enough of us have the vaccine to keep covid at bay.

I can't have the flu vaccine due to an allergy to one of the ingredients and I have to rely on those that can have it to help keep me safe by reducing the amount of flu around.

I expect that in time the Medical Defence organisations will make vaccination mandatory as part of the indemnity cover for doctors. That coupled with health organisations making vaccination a pre-requisite for new front line employees which will mean they can’t apply for promotions, and vaccine passports for travel abroad will make the doubters question their stance. It’s been hinted at already in the briefings, and legal rulings will no doubt follow.

And calling them stupid didnt work for Clinton against trump, and it didnt work for Brexit. We can keep doing that but it's really not working.

NellG Wed 24-Feb-21 16:49:52

Galaxy

Its quite a substantial number of people, I think its somehow connected to a complete failure to address peoples concerns on all sorts of issues. Complete lack of faith of those in power so people turn elsewhere for answers.

Couldn't agree more.

LauraNorder You won a Unicorn and a years supply of magic mushrooms.

Had it not been mandatory to put up black out blinds to protect a nation there may have been more bombing of our cities.
I’m all for liberty but desperate times means desperate measures. For the greater good and all that.

Funny you should say that Greynitter I was just pondering the issue properly ( having been facetious about it in my last post) and thinking back. Many moons ago I went in to nursing, and I'm convinced we were obliged to have Hep B and Tetanus inoculations before we could go near patients. Pretty sure I've still got a vax record for it somewhere. It wasn't a choice, if you wanted to nurse, you had the jabs - to protect yourself and your patients.

Galaxy Wed 24-Feb-21 16:44:38

Its quite important to think about why that might be though. Why are people embracing conspiracy theories, it's not just covid, it's the conspiracy theories around trump and the stolen election. I think it would be a massive mistake not to ask why this is happening.

LauraNorder Wed 24-Feb-21 16:43:23

Did I win a point?

Flying off on the Jefferson Airplane as we speak NellG

Oh dear it makes me feel as if in some respects we are still in Medieval times.

The enlightenment seems to have past so many people by.

GreyKnitter Wed 24-Feb-21 16:39:13

Did anyone hear Jonathan Van Tamm on tv this morning? He confirmed the opinion that anyone involved in the medical or care professions have a professional responsibility to ensure that they do not in any way harm their patients. Same thoughts as Chris Whitby obviously. Well worth listening to if you can find it - he’s was talking to Piers and Suzanne.

NellG Wed 24-Feb-21 16:37:52

* so, not do

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the widely held belief amongst young males that the 'jab' can make you impotent!

Even the Phizer one? ?

Isn't the joke that as they make Viagra they can practically raise the dead so should have no problem putting down a virus?

Or is is another conspiracy along the lines of 'the jab makes you impotent, they don't make money from the jab do they made it that way so they could make money from Viagra' - or some such paranoid nonsense?

Go ask Alice ( bonus points for anyone getting the reference)

So I might be wrong here and will happily be re-educated.
My understanding on why some people would refuse based on religious grounds is due to the creation of certain synthetic cell strands used to create certain vaccines. In that the advancement of certain aspects of the science used to create them can be traced back to experimentation on foetuses (1960’s).
Everything I’ve read states totally debunks the aborted foetuses are in the vaccine narrative that’s been on social media etc. Tbh, the sheer volume of scientific expansion there has been based on a the ability to synthesise DNA and cell sequences in the past 60 years is overwhelming.
Therefore, IMO it would be impossible to decipher which aspects of modern life/technology/medicine have their roots in what many would (for religious reasons) think of as abhorrent practices. So personally unless people are willing to put the same level of scrutiny into every single thing they put into or on their body, I find the argument a bit hypocritical- especially from those who work in medicine.

Also chipping in on the Catholic thing - we always had fish on a Friday and abstained from meat on holidays of obligation.

Galaxy Wed 24-Feb-21 16:17:24

I agree Laura, I just dont agree with mandatory vaccines. I think we need to be very careful and cautious about decisions we make now, when a large part of the population are in collective trauma for want of a better description. I think the implications that decision would have on bodily autonomy and the right to refuse treatment could be far reaching.

grannyrebel Yesthe devil is associated with the cloven hoof. It is not exactly know why, but wikiversity suggests that it is because the deveil, very early on got associated with the greek mythlogical god, Pan,

Pan was a goat-god, with horns, a beard, pointed ears, very hairy legs, a tail and cloven hooves instead of feet. All of which are now considered attributes of the Devil.

Pan was a popular god in the Middle East; the place where the River Jordan rises was regarded as sacred to him, which is also closely associated with early Christianity. At that time, the goat was often cast into the wilderness as a scape goat' and it may be this tradition of loading evrything that is bad on a goat and casting him out led to a conflation of the scape goat and the devil and the devil having goat like attributes.

Just a brief answer to those who question that those who don’t have the vaccine put others at risk.
If you don’t have the vaccine and you get the virus there is a good chance you will be very ill and take up an icu bed and the attendant staff. The more this happens the less beds will be freed up for cancer treatments, heart problems and much more to be treated, that has been delayed because of the virus.
Just one example of risk to others.

Sarnia ? ? ?

Redhead56 Wed 24-Feb-21 14:28:57

I am not a practicing anything person as I am not religious. I know people who fear vaccinations but I think it’s the unknown they don’t like. I am going for the vaccination on Sunday and I feel a sense of relief. I honestly think this last year has been like waiting for the death sentence.

Absolutely growstuff

My main point was that no, influenza is not a coronavirus.

growstuff Wed 24-Feb-21 13:26:29

NellG

Sorry Growstuff reading my post back the tone is a bit off, less intention, more not quite enough coffee before posting!

I just wanted to make it clear to everyone reading that other than making a joke once about monkey DNA I in no way think that, or endorse thinking that.

I wish we could fathom the reluctance re vaccines, then we could find a solution.

I think it's very difficult to understand if you have a completely different mindset. I know I don't really understand it and have little patience with people who believe conspiracy theories. The best people to persuade them are probably local church leaders and role models.
