How is your area getting through the vaccine program after those in age order?

Our area appears to be lagging, I have emailed my MP and tweeted but I think even her tweets get carried by pigeons over several hundred miles to her actual home.

My daughter has a severe learning disability, cannot social distance and has other complex health needs. She would be group 6 but with JCVI regulations she is definitely group 4 and I have just about had enough of being fobbed off. Even every single person I have spoken to on 119 has said they have been able to book other people in with similar needs/disabilities.

I just wondered if this was typical? The government made an announcement last week saying people with SLD should have the vaccine with immediate effect, this clearly is not true.

I have checked with the GP, she is eligible but they have no control apparently about who is called and when.

Looking at the confusion expressed for all sorts of reasons on this thread, can you imagine if the powers that be had heeded pleas to go down the occupational route and prioritise those as well as the age and vulnerability groups?

You can see why they're trying to keep it simple...

Well, I have tried booking my second dose and was told there is a shortage at the moment.
So goodness knows when I will be having that.

I’m 63, live in Devon and had mine 2 weeks ago.

I'm in Gloucestershire and they've been charging through the lists here. My first jab is next week and thankfully fairly local. However my second jab is going to have to be done thirty miles away! Methinks a certain amount of logistics planning has gone awry...

I’m in Surrey and booked through the central site . Our local gp centre is half way through the 6 group and covers a wide area. I had my first dose last week and was able to book the second for me on the same day as my husbands. The centre was in a racecourse so glad I had a car!

Can you get an English passport now? That's new.....

Where I live it depends which doctor surgery you are with . I have had mine but people of the same age with different doctor surgery but living in the same area haven't .

I live in Surrey, am 63, booked online after getting a letter and am having the jab later today. Here the system seems pretty good.

I come under West Sussex due to my Dr's location but my home address is Hampshire. My husband was checking on the NHS website up to 20 times a day to get me in because of my diabetes. I teased him (although I was very pleased with his obvious care) but was astonished when one evening, I was accepted. I'm off tomorrow for my first jab. I'm 59 with diabetes and thought it would be much later in the month with all the stuff I see on Social Media about the slowness in our area.

I had mine yesterday, I'll be 62 in August. I was texted last week by my Medical Centre and had one booked for 8 March but then was told that over 60's can book on the NHS website and got one in Blackburn yesterday....no queue, in and out in less than 10 minutes! They said that some days they've only had 60 for the vaccine! I don't understand why I had to wait 2 weeks for one organised by my medical centre and only 3 days for one booked online and I got my 2nd vaccine appointment at the same time. The NHS website does need updating (unless it has been now) as I had hesitated when it said only vulnerable and over 64's but it had been on the news that they were asking over 60's to register on the NHS website and I had no problems, just had to put date of birth and NHS number. I then also got a letter yesterday from the NHS asking me to book an appointment....I think they need to all join the dots and get more people vaccinated asap

I'm 65 so in group 5 and had my letter about 3weeks ago inviting me to a vaccine centre. As I don't drive and didn't really feel safe on the two buses each way I would have to use ( the nearest hub is 15 miles away), I decided I would have to wait for the Gp to contact me as per the letter . Although, strictly speaking it was against the rules, my daughter drove me there to save me waiting any longer and I had the 1st jab last week . I still haven't heard from the Gp,nor have others of my age group, so I'm glad I took up my daughter 's offer

I have nothing but praise for the people doing the jabs. I waited about half an hour & was offered a cup of tea twice during that time. It was very well organised & everyone was cheerful & efficient. I am 70.
My husband who is 58 got his jab last week (2 weeks after me) & was also very impressed by the way it was managed.

I am in West Berkshire and all my friends of 70 and over had their jabs like clockwork. I am 70 in August and consequently had to wait for the next level. Waited and waited for call from the docs to go to the local vaccination hub which is 5 minutes from our house and 3 minutes from where my DH works. Waited over two weeks so rang the surgery who told me they are only doing vulnerable people locally and that I need book on line - which is not what was being said on the doctors website or recorded message on their phone. Cutting a very long story short rang the 119 number and we were told we should attend a particular vaccination hub but could not book there at the moment you had to wait for a cancellation. Joke. 45 minute drive plus I do not drive so DH and I have to travel together but a cancellation would probably be a single booking.

I wrote a very long email explaining the whole scenario to the practice manager at the doctors. My final paragraph explained to her that we would not bother with the jab as I am a person who get highly stressed and could not cope with how things were being managed I would rather take my chance with Covid because the way things were going the stress would kill me first .(I might add I did want the vaccine). Got a call from her the next day and now my DH and I are booked in at the local vaccination hub on Friday.

I think the drive to get as many people across the board vaccinated as soon as possible is fantastic but I worry that some who live locally to me will still be waiting for their surgery to call.

Our area seems slightly ahead. All 3 of us got our invitations for our respective groups (3 different ones) about a week before the government announcements that they were starting on those groups.

Babs1953 Wed 03-Mar-21 13:42:46

Our area hasn't been too bad recently, seeing that the Bedworth/Nuneaton area didn't get their vaccinations until January!! I think all the most vulnerable , NHS staff and Care staff have had theirs. Despite being a Home Carer, I couldn't book an appointment but because I was over 65, I had my first vaccination on the 15th of February at the Civic Hall and I was quite happy with that. My next one is at the beginning of May.

leeds22 Wed 03-Mar-21 14:40:39

Over 60s being done in our area quite slowly. People are opting for an hour's drive to the big hub at York - well its a day out! Son in S Oxfordshire, in late 40s, tells us they are expecting call any minute, not sure if he's correct.

Ilovedragonflies Wed 03-Mar-21 14:44:07

I'm in South Norfolk - can't get a local jab for love nor money. I'm making a 60 mile round trip on Sunday to get mine. So much for lockdown...!

Barmeyoldbat Wed 03-Mar-21 14:51:59

I had mine just over 3 weeks ago, I booked it online and hadn't received any letter inviting me to book, I was also able to book my second dose. The 8 days after having it I received a letter inviting me to go along to my local surgery.
My daughter who has a learning disability was given a date and time by text, it is being held at the centre which houses the local disability team, so I guess they had something to do with it. She is going to go by taxi, a £40 round trip and her taxi driver will support her whilst she there. I had gone online to book one for her but wasn't able to, so not sure whats going on.

My Partner who is 74 received a text a few weeks ago then was given an appointment with the GP centre which is 12 miles away because apparently our GP is owned by Modiality but the other GP in our area vaccinates locally a walk away .He was vaccinated ,everything was very well organised ,but is waiting to hear about his second appointment .
He received the letter a few days after booking with the GP so was advised to tear it up .My brother had the same experience .
A few weeks later ,I m 67 ,I received the letter went online and found I d have to travel miles so decided to wait for the GP as advised .Did nt hear from them.Thought again and decided to go back online to check that they may have opened up some nearer hubs .This banner appeared ‘You have missed your two appointments ‘!!
Rang 119 and was told to ignore it that there was a glitch in the system.
The nearest centre they could offer me was in a inner city 16 miles away but I booked in the end and was given both appointment times .
When I waited in the area after my vaccine everyone else had had the same message re missing their appointments .I also found out that there were problems with the supply at the GP centre apparently they serve many care homes .
I could have been hanging on waiting for GP to ring ,not been made aware of their problems but took the gamble using the NHS letter.Glad I did !

OH and I are in our late 60s (group 5) and expected our jabs in late March. however, my part of Oxfordshire seemed to be way ahead and we had ours 24 January.

Elusivebutterfly Wed 03-Mar-21 15:24:09

Older people here had to travel quite a distance but they opened a local centre for a group of GPs in February where they started with the over 70s, then over 65s and I had a text to book there in mid February. I received an NHS letter to book centrally the day after I had my vaccine locally.
It seems a bit random as a friend had to travel a distance whereas her husband (same age) went to their local centre.
