Just heard on sky News that the vaccine has been suspended in Ireland due to a report from Norway about blood clotting issues in 4 cases. I have had that vaccine and I’m not at all worried..

Just lost all respect for you Alegrias.

How do you feel about people who tell "foreigners" they shouldn't be posting?

Or those who can dish it out but not take it?

By the way, one of the purposes of the Auld Alliance, dating from the 13th century, was to protect Scotland against English incursion. So making them nervous was a way of preventing us being invaded.

Galaxy Thu 18-Mar-21 08:04:33

I love Norfolk by the way grin

Dear God. Implying people shouldn't post because they dont live in Britain. Can we all do that can I decide I dont want to hear from people in Norfolk for example.

As for the Scots ( unless they’re Unionists of course) . In fact come to think of it, the only posters allowed should be .......

20:17 yesterday Witzend

Yes Witzend it make you wonder doesn't it, lots of money to be made selling vaccines to the world but not if your competitors are selling at cost price and under cutting you. I think this is one of the reasons for trying to discredit the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine. I also think Macron and Merkel (the two top dogs in the EU) are jealous and resentful of us in the UK for our fantastic rollout of the vaccine (trying to draw attention from their failures) and hopefully opening up the UK in June (Business as normal) and the fact that we dared to leave the corrupt EU and are actually making a success of it.

It was that kind of relationship. We didn't expect much back. Just making the English nervous was reward enough.

Touché Bodach. I've just had a very quick read up on that.

Bodach Wed 17-Mar-21 23:42:37

"I'm Scottish. We've always quite liked the French. Auld Alliance and all that."
Strange how the "Auld Alliance" generally seemed to work to the advantage of the French, rather than to that of the Scots. It didn't really do much for James IV and the rest of the 'flowers of the forest' in 1513, did it?

maddyone Wed 17-Mar-21 23:41:49

He must indeed Ellianne. The whole situation is frustrating.

Ellianne Wed 17-Mar-21 23:38:23

The suggestions are that somewhere between 7 and 14 million doses are stashed in fridges in Europe not being used because the Europeans have been scared witless about their safety.
Yes, I think Van-Tam made a cutting comment that the vaccines were useless unless they were in people's arms. He must be feeling frustrated.

I'm Scottish. We've always quite liked the French. Auld Alliance and all that.

Yes, I'm rambling a bit. Nothing more surreal than half the other posts on this thread though.

I'm half Welsh Alegrias, my Celtic roots are probably what drew me to want to marry a Breton. But then of course, the Bretons will tell you all about their squabbles with the French!

maddyone Wed 17-Mar-21 23:33:05

My husband was a French teacher. We holidayed in France many times. We like France. But it would be hard to conclude that the President of France, Monsieur Macron has anything but contempt for Britain.

I’ve just seen on SkyNews that almost all the AZ vaccine needed for the UK is manufactured in Britain so theoretically there shouldn’t be a problem of supply of that particular vaccine. Pfizer however is manufactured in Belgium, so I wonder is it the Pfizer vaccine that Ursula von der Leyen is referring to when she threatens to disrupt supplies to Britain?

Can anyone explain why there are suggestions/ threats of disruption of exports of vaccine to Britain whilst European countries are sitting on millions of AZ doses? The suggestions are that somewhere between 7 and 14 million doses are stashed in fridges in Europe not being used because the Europeans have been scared witless about their safety. Why do they need more from Britain?

Ellianne Wed 17-Mar-21 23:18:53

The operative words were "historical conflicts" and yes, actually over 20 of them in two centuries alone.

No hope for what? suziewoozie?

Ellianne

But it's not just Brexit or vaccine envy is it?
France takes the top spot as Britain's greatest historical enemy. There has always been conflict between the two nations.

Good grief.

No hope is there?

JE it doesn't matter if nanna8 is from Mars, she can post anything she likes that isn't banned.

I disagree with her often but I don't think it's my place - or yours - to question why she is on this site!

Oh, and this time, I believe she's just about got it right.

I think the xenophobia on this thread is getting out of hand and in this case could be perceived as a personal attack.

If you dislike so much about our country why do you stick around on here to read things nanna8 ?
Every time your name pops up on these threads it’s yet another rant about something to do with our country, from Brexit, the vaccine programme or the Royal family.

Why? You are in Australia I believe.

nanna8 Wed 17-Mar-21 21:44:53

Political? A strike against Brexit ? What are you on? Never heard such rubbish in my life. Hyper cautious, yes, but really. The UK is not that important to the vast continent of Europe. Get a grip.

Witzend Wed 17-Mar-21 20:17:02

Must admit that I’ve been wondering the same, Firecracker. Produce enough bad publicity about the AZ that virtually the whole world will shun it and buy one that’s 5 times more expensive instead?
It’d be interesting to learn who has major shareholdings in Pfizer. Or in any other that’s not not-for-profit.

A dd who incidentally lives in Oxford, not far from where the AZ was developed, just told me that a French friend locally thinks Macron should be jailed! She is so angry with him - her elderly parents back home cannot expect the vaccine any time soon.
A number of the parents at Gdcs’ school were involved in developing the AZ.

My formerly extremely staunch Remainer dd just added that she’s beginning to be ‘thankful that we’re out of this shit - negligence, arrogance, misinformed (deliberate) falsehoods.’ (Her words just now.)

BlueSky Wed 17-Mar-21 18:05:59

Sadly Elianne. All the comments from French and Italian friends are on those lines. Many cancelled their jab but I will remind them it’s not just after the AZ that you could have a blood clot!
