The trouble with letting people travel to see family abroad is that it would soon reach a point similar to the inequities surrounding bereavement and compassionate leave. There are those for whom close friends, partners, third cousins are closer than their parents or children, and others who will use concessions to their advantage, despite never having seen their granny for decades.
That is harsh, I know; and I know that there are people who are desperate to see their loved ones, but I'm afraid that it is true, and also that the virus doesn't care about how much any of us wants to see someone - it will still kill many who are infected by it.
Oh, and as for the SJ loophole - that is bare-faced cheeck, and encapsulates this government's attitude to 'their own kind's' superiority over the rest of us. I hope this is raised in PMQs, as I would love to see Johnson's explanation. Actually, I would like to hear Professor Van Tam or Chris Whitty's opinion on the matter even more.
