? Peasblossom that’s okay. Sometimes jokiness is hard to convey on here.

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 11:41:26

Sorry redhead I should have made it clear that the ways round comment wasn’t directed at you. I was responding to urmstongran but I hope I’ve put that right with her.

I was surprised at your ‘bxxxt’ comment though, I guess my nephews despair at families meeting up and the consequences has got to me.

I haven’t seen my family for over a year either. ?

I think they should allow people to travel who have family abroad. They are more important than second homes.

We're missing ours too, but they won't let us into the country even if we could get there.

JaneJudge Tue 23-Mar-21 11:33:36

dragonfly, I'm so sorry about your Mum sad flowers lots of love to you at this time xx

My elderly mother in law is in hospital after a fall and no one is allowed to visit or send anything on (I know some of this is sensible and practical) the hospital are obviously looking after her though as a Dr facetimed my sister in law with my Mother in law present and my Mother in law was wearing a 'really posh nightie and robe' ~ sil 'where have you had that from Mum?' she asks - 'oh some one brought us all a 'present in' she says, sat their like the Queen ready for bed smile

I'm sorry about my earlier ranting blush I took the dog a walk and I am now aching all over but much calmer!

Maizie I understand yournpoint about Stanley Johnson, my point was really based on whether the virus could discriminate between reasons someone went abroad, infect them if they were just going for a holiday and not if it was to prepare a property to let, although who is going to be renting them when no foreign travel is permitted is not clear.

Cabbie21 Tue 23-Mar-21 11:01:39

Preparing a holiday home for rent is far from being the only legitimate reason given for travelling abroad. There is a whole list, including education, work, funerals etc.
I am sure there may be circumstances where the risk may be worth taking, but personally I can't think of any.
Foreign travel will just circulate variants of the virus. I want to limit it, not spread it.

Redhead56 Tue 23-Mar-21 11:01:24

Peasblossom we have followed the rules so have our loved ones. I have seen my daughter and granddaughter once in nearly a year. How can that be 'ways round' when we have been following government advice to the letter. Direct your opinion to those who want to travel and bring back more cases of covid to our shores.

Hetty58 Tue 23-Mar-21 10:57:58

I have family abroad and, of course, I miss them - yet still, I think travel should be banned to protect us all.

Hopefully, we'll avoid any more lockdowns.

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 10:55:49

Sorry Urmstongran thought you were serious ?

MaizieD Tue 23-Mar-21 10:41:29

I too am puzzled by the 'preparing second homes to rent'.

You cannot be serious, MOnica?

You really don't know why this exemption is being proposed? shock

Think 'Stanley Johnson', 'Greece', 'holiday home'... It then becomes completely clear.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 10:39:44

My post was only a joke.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 10:39:04

Apologies if my comment seemed crass dragonfly. I didn’t see your post about the death of your mum.
?

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 10:38:46

Why are people looking for ‘ways round”?

Do we still not get it?

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 10:37:23

My doctor nephew has spent the last three months treating people who met up with their families at Christmas, Redhead. For the last time. People are still dying.

You’re staying apart for all of you, not just because it’s the rules. It’s not bxxxt. Believe me.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Mar-21 10:37:20

JaneJudge

Why can people see their cleaners but not their Mothers?
Why can a resident in a care home see 15 different carers but can't see their son or daughter?
This can't just be about virus control

Good point JJ.

Actually, we are allowed to go abroad to visit the dying. Aren’t we ALL dying ??

?

Smileless2012 Tue 23-Mar-21 10:37:08

IMO there should be no exceptions for holiday homes or visiting family abroad. Our son is in Aus. so I know how hard it is but we're an island and our best protection at this time is for our borders to be closed.

You're spot on Lillie. We owned a property in Florida and had a management team who looked after it in our absence through out the year including a weekly pool service.

It's good that the government has taken this decision but allowing people to go abroad because they own a property over seas is a mistake IMO.

grandmajet Tue 23-Mar-21 10:32:46

Dragonfly ?
GagaJo, you are very stoic in your attitude, and I admire you for it. Also Sodapop. I’m not sure I would be as brave in your situation.

Redhead56 Tue 23-Mar-21 10:32:03

Our second home in Wales has not been occupied for over a year it's for sale. On the home front cleaners are a priority over loved ones? We cannot see our families indoors still even though we have all followed the rules. But those who have cleaners can have them in their home what a load of bxxxxxxt!

Peasblossom Tue 23-Mar-21 10:31:05

People can’t distinguish between want and need.

Oh for a world where people could make that judgement “I won’t travel this year because I dont need to”.

Instead of looking for excuses to get what they want

dragonfly46 Tue 23-Mar-21 10:19:08

To be fair JaneJudge I was allowed to sit with my dying mum for three days last week in the care home. In that respect things have improved.

Lucca Tue 23-Mar-21 10:15:19

The second home thing is a godsend to the Made in Chelsea characters among others. And will the “influencers “ still be exempt as they are travelling for work ?

M0nica Tue 23-Mar-21 10:04:06

I too am puzzled by the 'preparing second homes to rent'. We have a second home just across the Channel in Normandy, which we have never rented out, It has now gone through a whole winter without occupation and warmth. Someone is checking it regularly, but I am still worried about mildew and mould in the bedding etc.

Should I arrange a couple of rents in order to be able to go there?

Actually I am in complete agreement with dragonfly46 when she says that those with family overseas , should have priority over second home owners.

In truth, it should be all or none as COVID does not check on why you are travelling before infecting you.

silverlining48 Tue 23-Mar-21 09:51:56

Can you trust people to do their own thing? Sensibly? Really?
I don’t have that faith and it only takes a few, and their poor decisions affect everyone else.
At some point in future of course, but not now.

The need to want to see your relatives is different from 'needing a holiday' or 'visiting property', we all want to see our relatives I imagine.
