I would be happy to be allowed to travel to West Wales to see my in laws.

Me too. My DF has been very ill for nearly 3 years and I haven't seen him for over a year. He is cared for by my DM, also not too well and I am worried sick about them both. I just wish Wales and England would have a short period when they were *both& out of lockdown.

welbeck Wed 24-Mar-21 18:17:30

they can quarantine in private houses though, can't they, not like the airport hotels here.
not sure about the test, guess they know how to do that.
i don't like to ask too many questions.

welbeck Wed 24-Mar-21 18:15:20

i think they have got all that covered, was also away for a month there dec-jan.

Jaxjacky Wed 24-Mar-21 18:00:25

wellbeck Dublin arrivals need a negative PCR test, passenger locator form and 14 day quarantine.

welbeck Wed 24-Mar-21 17:44:54

just as well i don't go anywhere; last holiday was bank hol weekend 15 years ago. in UK.
i know someone who says it is ok to go to dublin, from uk, next week, staying there a month.
i said what about travel restrictions; answer, it's ok, common travel area ? so i suppose that means it's like one entity, britain and ireland.
but i thought english are not meant to go to scotland. ?
and someone was arrested for driving into wales for a haircut, although he was speeding coming back, and on speed, drugs, so not sure of all the charges.

I rebooked flights to June this year from last year's cancelled trip to Seville just as lockdown began. So I will be cancelling those now plus the rebooked hotel and rescheduling all that to heaven knows when! |To be expected under the circumstances I guess. In the meantime have cautiously booked 5 days in self contained cottage in Wales in July with overnight hotel stops in Bath on outward and return journeys so keeping fingers crossed that we can at least explore some of the British Isles in the summer.

Commiserations to those who have family abroad who they can't get to see.

We have bitten the bullet and booked two short breaks (2 nights & 3 nights) one in Dorset and one in Norfolk. We have chosen small hotels in large grounds with established restaurants.

We are now resigned to spending another year confined in the UK, I appreciate the reasons but it is heartbreaking. Thank goodness for Zoom...

Sorry, I meant cottages too.

I can see why these types of holidays work well in terms of keeping people apart.

I think self catering holidays in the UK are allowed from 12th April? Provided it is only one household.
That must mean caravans and campsites?

Yes caravans, self catering and campsites using own facilities and social distancing.

Katie59 Wed 24-Mar-21 08:46:24

I’m not sure why holiday homes have this exception, maintenence and servicing is normally contracted out to local agents to supervise. In any case any work can be supervised remotely for a few months, weddings and funerals can be viewed remotely as well and are not essential travel in my book.
If only these rules had been put in place a year ago like Australia and NZ did it would have save tens of thousands of lives - we had the choice.

And self-catering accommodation

Is the introduction of the £5000 fine the only change at present?

maddyone Tue 23-Mar-21 20:29:30

Going back to the original post, I thought holidays, both here and abroad, were illegal since January until 17th May. And I thought the date had now been extended until 30th June, for foreign holidays, but holidays here are still allowed from 17th May.
Am I right?

Is anyone else sick of hearing about road maps. It's a plan,

Thanks, M0nica. All very contradictory, as according to Sky News today:

^Although the new laws won't expire until 30 June, Health Secretary Matt Hancock suggested foreign holidays could be allowed before that date.

He told Sky News a government review of international travel - the results of which are due next month - would decide whether to allow Britons to holiday abroad from 17 May. This is the earliest date from which ministers are considering allowing foreign travel without a reasonable excuse, as previously set out in the prime minister's roadmap for easing lockdown rules.

"The questions of whether people will be able to travel abroad this summer are going to be addressed by the Global Travel Taskforce, which is reporting around 12 April," Mr Hancock told Sky News.

“The roadmap sets out the earliest date by which we will allow for international travel - without one of the clear reasons you need now - is 17 May.

"That has not changed. The way we're putting that into law is as part of these roadmap regulations that will be voted on on Thursday. "They come to an end as a whole at the end of June. But that doesn't change the timings for these questions on international travel."^

If you live in Dubai and want to visit the U.K. just go via Athens. Then you don’t have to quarantine here.
I don’t know the specifics but my ‘bubble’s’ son has just returned that way for Easter.

Could you give a link to the information re 30 June, M0nica? The one in the OP doesn’t refer to it, and as I say, the BBC says that planned dates haven’t changed, though a £5000 fine has indeed been introduced.

Maggiemaybe The 30th June date was released yesterday. The fine for travelling abroad today without good reason, has gone up to £5,000. Plus the cost of quarantine.

Maggiemaybe Tue 23-Mar-21 19:15:26

Jaxjacky

Maggiemaybe there is a very big ‘May’ in the statement you refer to, similarly the ‘no earlier than’ and the dependency on probably not just our stats, but those abroad too

That’s because there’s a very big may and no earlier than in every single date and every single step of the road map. It’s all dependent on very particular conditions being met.

But the first date when foreign travel may be allowed, according to the BBC site I linked to, is 17 May, not 30 June as stated in the OP.

Oldbat1 Tue 23-Mar-21 18:54:06

Two tier “entitlement” rules again.
No-one should be going abroad then coming back. If people do go to “prepare” their second homes then only one person not the whole family for a jolly. Folk with caravans in storage in the uk haven’t been permitted to visit said caravans to check for mice infestation, damp etc so why should second home people in France be permitted. Oh yes I’m sorry I do apologise it is only the plebs holiday homes which don’t matter.

Looking for ways round things is what keeps the pandemic going

Lillie Tue 23-Mar-21 17:56:30

I was thinking of a way round this .... I could contact an Estate Agent in Spain to ostensibly view a few properties and spend two weeks in May in an apartment in the sun at the same time.
