I think he looks really poorly...stressed? ...long covid?.....

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Mar-21 14:33:48

I would have more sympathy for him if he wasn’t such a charlatan, liar and all round useless leader.

MaizieD Thu 25-Mar-21 14:29:35

He's had a divorce, a severe dose of Covid and a new baby to cope with, and is planning a wedding. That's quite a lot to be dealing with in addition to coping with a pandemic.

But this is all self inflicted. Why on earth should we feel sorry for him for being utterly stupid?

I think it's karma and he deserves everything he gets...

Perhaps this accounts for Johnson bumbling, hesitating, getting his facts wrong , inability to answer questions directly, or is that how he is usually?

I think that's his usual way of presenting himself - as a charming bumbler.

People are hanging onto his answers to try and work out what's going to happen with lockdown, so he really can't afford to say anything he doesn't mean at the moment.

I don't feel much sympathy for him, though - he joined with others to push Theresa May out of office because he wanted to be PM, but, as often happens, it turned out to be a poisoned chalice. I don't think being PM is ever an easy job.

Kestrel Thu 25-Mar-21 11:52:50

I agree trisher - he has a history of getting away with things. Think he's met his match with Carrie tho smile

EllanVannin Thu 25-Mar-21 11:40:41

I wouldn't have his job for a gold clock. There's never ever pleasing everyone in any situation, least of all the one that we're ALL in at present.

JaneJudge Thu 25-Mar-21 11:37:23

He should just take it on the chin

Alegrias1 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:35:41

I really don't get this "could you do better" thing.

I'm not pretending I could do better. Are we not allowed to say when someone is terrible at their job, especially as they are meant to be representing us?

Anecdote time: Our school orchestra were terrible. Watching them one time, a couple of us said to each other, oh dear, that was terrible. Never mind, they're doing their best. Someone then said, you can't say that, you can't do better. Yeah, but I know better than to take up the euphonium and try to play it in front of people.

Please could we remember all the PPE that wasn't available, the late first lock down, MPs still shaking hands, the ridiculous "Eat Out to Help Out, the useless and diablolically expensive test and trace system, the adviser who broke the rules, the lack of early rules about masks, the shilly-shallying over Christmas and all the other inadequacies this man has presided over. Just because the NHS and the voluntary sector are now running a world beating vaccination system it doesn't mean he's done well. And he would probably have privatised the vaccination programme if he'd known how.

grannyrebel7 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:21:48

I don't think he's the right man for the job, but having said that I do have some sympathy for him. He must feel terrible about having the responsibility of all those deaths on his shoulders. I bet Theresa May is thinking she definitely dodged a bullet by not winning the last leadership vote. Who in their right mind would chose to cope with all this?

EllanVannin Thu 25-Mar-21 11:18:49

There was a pic in a newspaper of him recently----obviously taken off-guard and he looked older than me and I'm over 80 !

seamstress Thu 25-Mar-21 11:10:56

Presumably bluesky and other love BJ unconditionally and love his his tendency to cheating and lies too.

Alegrias1 Thu 25-Mar-21 11:10:49

Can you point out where I have criticised almost his every move please?

As far as I recall we are still allowed to disagree with how the government of the day is performing.

My actual words: "....I actually think he has done better....."

^can I ask if you think you could do better?^

I didn't stand for the position and think I was the best person for the job of PM of a country. He did.

No excuses.

I actually think he's done better since Cummings left, maybe he's getting better advice. He still has his trademark "twinkling eyes" tell when he's lying, though.

but you are happy to criticise almost his every move without being privy to the information and advice he is receiving

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Mar-21 10:59:09

Angela Merkel has backtracked over Germany’s Easter lockdown, despite Covid cases rising nationwide as it was “unpopular” ?

Angela Merkel been in her job for umpteen years and has been a stabilising influence , whether or not you agree with her politics, hats off to her. She is resigning soon unlike our own dear leader.

Maybe more to do with ‘retiring’ (she’s 66y) rather than ‘resigning’?? Boris is only 55y after all.

Beckett Thu 25-Mar-21 10:49:18

To all those criticising Boris (especially Polarbear with their libelous post) can I ask if you think you could do better?

Everyone full of the things he has done wrong (in their opinion) but how many actually do anything other than sit behind their computer keyboard and criticise. How many serve on their local Council, Town or even Parish council.

It is easy to criticise when you don't have the full details - none of us a privy to the advice and information he is receiving

Lucca Thu 25-Mar-21 10:47:49

Calling his hair an “unruly mop”is also intended to make him seem lovable !

Alegrias1 Thu 25-Mar-21 10:46:57

BlueSky

Obviously you either love or hate ‘Boris’ and I love him, love his bumbling, love his unruly blond mop! grin

Don't love him, don't hate him. He's the Prime Minister, I'd like to respect and trust him but unfortunately that's not possible given his inability to do the job he has so long aimed to have.

Great post Iam64.

trisher Thu 25-Mar-21 10:45:18

There was someone on Radio 4 the other morning discussing what has appened to politics today. He thought that our communication/media situation has produced politicians who are masters of the short statement, the tag line, the slogan, but who lack any real political depth. What happens when they achieve power is that they are completely unable to deal with any of the requirements of the job. Boris personified! Of course he looks worn out.

BlueSky Thu 25-Mar-21 10:43:17

Well said Chewbacca! ?

Chewbacca Thu 25-Mar-21 10:41:08

Personally BlueSky, I don't like the man or his politics one little bit and will be happy when he's no longer our PM. But I dislike spreading fake news lying to discredit someone with whom you disagree, just because you can and you think you can get away with it.

henetha Thu 25-Mar-21 10:35:35

I feel sorry for Boris actually. He always wanted to be Prime Minister apparently, and he got landed with this!
Yes, he does look done in lately.
