Has anyone who has had the second Astra Zeneca vaccine found the side effects were not as bad the second time around?

I decided to go ahead as COVID or Long COVID strikes terror in me

Had my second ax jab yesterday , no reaction so far ! I can’t even tell where the entry point is ?

I’ve decided not to go ahead with my 2nd dose of AZ. If it’s not safe enough for other countries it’s not safe enough for me.

My second vaccine is booked for 25th April, exactly 12 weeks after my first. I felt quite ill for almost a week after my first AZ vaccine, but nothing as worrying as what happened to EV. I don’t know which vaccine it will be this time, just happy to get it out of the way.

2nd vaccine dose on Wed and as with the first no side effects not even a sore arm.The nurse did give warning may have temp/flu symptoms /headache etc so dutifully had paracetamol to hand but fortunately not required.Dh in 4wks fingers crossed he is the same.

It’s sad if people really think that the AZ vaccine isn’t as good quality as the others because it’s cheaper. I should hope that’s just silly gossip. Unfortunately some people will believe anything.
I think it’s commendable that one of the vaccines is being sold at cost because it makes it affordable for poorer countries. That is precisely why it’s being sold at cost. After all, we’re not safe till we’re all safe.

As we are still talking about the AZ, what upset me reading comments on newspapers abroad, is that being cheaper is not as good quality as the Pfizer!

Well that was just a silly comment wasn’t it? Just like all the silly comments we read over here?

I had my second Pfizer jab today. The doctor and the nurse both said that the first Oxford jab is the worse but the second Pfizer jab is worse. We have been warned that our arm may become sore this evening and we may have flu like symptoms. If we do, simply take Paracetamol and drink plenty.

I mean AZ of course ?

Some clots were reported with Pfzier but doesn’t seem talked about in the newspapers

Well I m off for my second AZ tomorrow ?

Iirc the clots were not of the specific kind associated with Pfizer.

It probably does use the same technology suziewoozie, although named Janssen, it's a subsidiary of J&J manufactured in Holland. It's already killed one person.

maddyone Fri 09-Apr-21 15:31:35

I think you are sounding a bit conspiratorial really.

Yes possibly I do suzie, but I don’t really mean to. I’m just puzzled. I had the Pfizer and had no side effects apart from a slight aching arm and neck. I’ve heard there have been some blood clots with that vaccine too but I’m unsure of the details, or if it has really happened. I hadn’t heard anything about blood clots with the Johnsons one until it was mentioned on this thread.
I would have had the AZ vaccine quite happily. In fact I would have had any of the vaccines quite happily.

A friend who had Pfizer 2 at the same time as I did, has had a really bad reaction lasting a week. Her husband has been unaffected and so have I. The GP told her that some people have had a reaction to their second Pfizer, which didn't make her feel any better!

suziewoozie Fri 09-Apr-21 15:03:19

EllanVannin

Johnson and Johnson has been causing problems with clots too.

Oh it’s only those pesky Europeans that are worried - we can just scoff at them. On a serious note, doesn’t J and J use similar viral vector technology to AZ?

^You give anything to millions of people, there are going to be side effects.^

Absolutely.

I expect we’ll see something on the others as well, it’s just that this one has shown up first.

There must be side effects with the others, but we’re not really hearing anything about them. Why not? Or are there really no side effects with the other vaccines? Whatever, I’m just so grateful to the scientists who have developed all of these wonderful vaccines.

I think you are sounding a bit conspiratorial really. Moderna is widely used in the States and given their very litigious health care culture, I think we can rely on reporting of important side effects. As for Pfizer, the research work going in Israel on that is also I believe to be trusted. AZ is a different type from the first two so different side effects are to be expected.

Had ours on Wednesday. I had a painful arm yesterday but fine today. No fatigue this time either so yes, less side effects.

Alegrias1 Fri 09-Apr-21 10:46:26

But they're not scare stories, they are actual results of giving the vaccine to millions of people. You give anything to millions of people, there are going to be side effects. I expect we'll see something on the others as well, its just that this one has shown up first.

The last thing we need is conspiracy theories about scare stories!

Witzend Fri 09-Apr-21 10:43:50

Dh had his 2nd jab yesterday, no side effects so far - he had none with the first, either (AZ) but I did - shivers and shakes, but gone by morning.

Hoping for my 2nd soon - 1st was a week after dh.

I am not one who goes along with conspiracy theories - BUT as the Astra Veneca vaccination is the ONLY one of these that is given on a NOT-FOR-PROFIT basis, it does make me wonder how much of so much of these scare stories are eminating more from the other companies, who are receiving loads of dosh!!!

I’m wondering that too.
