Covid 19 - Lift all restrictions?

I live near to Bolton and the way this Indian variant vis escalating I can see local lockdowns looming. The concern really is that people are getting fed up. The north west has suffered a lot therefore a lot won’t adhere to lockdowns. Hopefully after two years the Spanish Flu burned itself out and same will happen to Covid although with vaccinations will be akin to flu

I think all restrictions should be lifted with the except of travelling abroad. We need to be adults and think for ourselves and make our own decisions.

It is being reported (Politics Today) that the death rate in England is now the lowest since records began!

And that's because people are mainly taking precautions. Which is why infection rates of all sorts are down, and that's not a bad thing. I think, inevitably, all restrictions will be lifted in time, and there will be a rise in cases. And those of us that are extremely vulnerable will be forced to self isolate again until we decide that risking illness and possible death are the lesser of two evils.

What would you suggest the CEV, some of whom are clinically unable to have the vaccine, whose employers might insist on them returning to normal working practices do to protect themselves?

Just got to live with it! Just one more thing that MIGHT kill you!!!!! Not going to disappear ?☹️

I feel we have come this far, why spoil it by scrapping rules now.

If nothing changes from now then I think all restrictions will be lifted as planned on the 21st June
We have to get back to normal or we risk the economy going down
For instance restaurants can now open but with the restrictions in place they are just breaking even

Sad to say but you cannot keep the country under restrictions for the few
If I was CEV and could not have the vacination and worked somewhere that did not allow me to work in safety and this concerned me then I would have to change my job

So odd that where these outbreaks are the worst, that you think people will decide to ignore the local lockdowns! Counter intuitive really, you’d think they’d shut themselves away to stop it in its tracks quickly!

The more cases there are the more likely it is that a variant will occur that is resistant to the vaccines. Back to square one! We may have to be careful until most of the world’s population is vaccinated.

I will be guided by the scientists and the government. We've had both our jabs and have started doing the things now open to us. I think everyone is sick of it. However, I've noticed some people who have been furloughed are not thrilled to be back in the workplace and every failure in systems is blamed on the pandemic! But we'll get a balance at some stage, I hope!

I think you have hit the nail on the head Some may choose to be cautious to protect themselves and be comfortable in their choice meanwhile the remainder can get back to normal life

I have read very carefully all these responses, my response is, why on earth would anyone rubbish us altering our behaviour in the future !

Better and more frequent hand washing, and hygiene practising and continuing to wear masks in highly densely populated areas doesn’t harm anyone ! I used to commute to London on very packed trains and tubes ew ! The Chinese have got it right, wearing of masks in these situations is great !

Yes, we need to live our lives to the full, whilst being mindful of others....this should always have been and be the case.

As for getting off to Spain this year, no thanks ! It was not controlling our borders and people not being responsible which led to needless deaths, not just those old and vulnerable people, many people taken far too early !

my two youngest DC are in 20s, so low risk, but autistic thus being higher risk. They have not had their vaccines, probably wont for a few weeks, then they need time until second vaccine and time for it to provide full immunity. So I think we are talking about September before everyone is fully vaccinated. I don't want to continue with restrictions but for an additional few weeks until all young people can be fully protected with vaccine seems fair. But mask wearing and social distancing should be here to stay for a while yet. CEV also have carers etc. who can carry virus even after vaccine, and the vaccine isn't 100% and who know how long it will be effective so sensible precautions are going to be needed for a long time,

But this is only because so many of the old and vulnerable have died earlier because of the virus. One argument is that the typical deaths for several years were condensed into a shorter times scale and the death rate will average out in the relatively short term

But if they need to hold back because of actually information wouldn't it be better to do that for a short period so we know it's safe when we do go ahead?

By the by, maybe those with a slightly more laussez-faire attitude might not have personally been affected by Covid or lost a loved one.

It’s a case of ALL of us playing our part for the greater good, not “I’m alright Jack” !

Go safely folks and let’s hope we can get back to living our lives to the full AND protect ourselves and each other

As usual, we have a glimmer of light at the end of a long, black tunnel and everybody wants to get rid of all restrictions. Haven't we been here before? It only takes the virus to mutate into a fast acting, vaccine avoidant strain and we'll have thousands dying again. Just look at how fast the Indian Variant is moving. The more cases, the more likely we are to get a vaccine avoidant variety. Let's just take things steady and not throw the baby out with the bath water.

We are finally getting hospitality opened over here next week so we have to see how it all goes and by the time nightclubs, etc will reopen there should be a lot more jabbed. Everything needs to be given a try after all the vaccinations given, just hope everyone still realises the virus is still out there and they don't go mad.

I hope they keep some of the restrictions, with cases rising and many people still not vaccinated it seems rash to do so. Plus vaccinations do not prevent 100% from catching the virus. I certainly won’t be stopping wearing a mask and keeping away from strangers.
