Covid in Glasgow - what's the situation?

The Scottish govt site will tell you which parts of Glasgow are level 3 and as said earlier there are travel restrictions between certain parts of England/Scotland. I think we will have these variant spikes for some time to come all over UK especially as people start to venture overseas for work, holidays etc. I suppose that being in the hospitality industry and restaurant trade money is much needed just now and you cannot ask people to prove where they stay before you serve them. I still have a slight Weegie accent and I haven't lived there for over 40 years.

Just imagine how easy it would be to evict customers

Aveline

Seems like half of Glasgow has poured into Edinburgh though! Standing room only on trains from Queen Street to Waverley. DS says his restaurant is packed with 'weegies'!

Many of us have Glasgow postcodes, but do not live in Glasgow City LA, so it may not be half of Glasgow, as we are free to travel to Edinburgh if we wish! Why are they being served, if they are breaching Level 3? I wouldn't allow them in my restaurant!
BTW, good to see you have returned to GN!

My daughter lives in the area of Glasgow that had the high number of infections. She is desperate to be able to travel as she is a hill walker and spends much of her free time normally climbing mountains. Thankfully it seems although there are still high numbers of infections, the number of hospital admissions remains low so it is likely Glasgow will move to level 2 soon. I hope so, as being cooped up in the city for months has affected her mental health. She lives alone, mostly works from home and gets very stressed when she has to go to work in person. Yet travelling to the mountains would be a relatively safe thing to do as long as she doesn't take a tumble and need mountain rescue!

My understanding is that the risks in Glasgow are lower than some of the hotspots in England but the government in Scotland are being more cautious than Boris and his crew. I wouldn't worry too much about your family member.

The upside of the situation is that DD got her vaccine earlier because she lives in the area with the high numbers so she is on her way to being protected, though she's only had the 1st jab so far. She has been so careful throughout the pandemic and feels like she is being punished for other people's stupidity and failure to follow the rules!

I hope I'll be able to go and visit her before too long - haven't seen her in the flesh since October! At least I'm fully vaccinated so not too worried about my own safety, though still being fairly careful.

I meant to add, travel restrictions have been imposed between Scotland and three local authority areas – Bedford, Bolton and Blackburn and Darwen, where there are believed to be large numbers of Indian variant cases.

It does depend on where your friend is visiting. I have a Glasgow post code, but do not live in the Glasgow City Council area, but two minutes from the county line. We are not allowed over the county line, unless for essential purposes, as we are in Level 2 and the city is in Level 3.

The outbreak was mainly in a certain area of Glasgow and apparently been caused by households mixing. We were very lucky to escape Level 3, as those households had been mixing with households in our LA.
Fortunately the Scottish Govt analysed the reasons for the spread and used common sense to allow us to move down a level.

Glasgow is currently in level 3. However your friend possibly may be visiting an area not in Glasgow city council address. For example my daughter stays on the outskirts and although she has a G post code she lives in another council area.

From the Scottish govt website.

You cannot stay in a private home with family and friends outwith your extended household for the purpose of socialising or leisure purposes in a Level 3 area.

In Level 3, no socialising between members of different households is permitted in a private dwelling, so different households must not share holiday accommodation

Anyone?

Can any of our Scottish members shed light on the Covid situation in Glasgow please? A close relative has flown to Glasgow to spend a few days with a friend. I thought this wasn't allowed? She has not been vaccinated yet.
