I have at least 2 and I struggle to find something to say to them when they bring it up. Neither are conspiracy theorists; neither have medical conditions that might influence their decision. Both are pleasant people.

I have to confess that it gets under my skin a bit. The more people who get vaccinated, the slower the spread and the nearer we get to managing this pandemic. We do not get vaccinated just for ourselves, but also for everyone else. These people are piggybacking on our taking the vanishingly small risk of being vaccinated.

Can they not see what is happening to the poor souls in India?

Does anyone else have such friends? Do you challenge their decision?

Myself and husband have had both jabs, but daughter, who doesn’t live near, is hesitant. Not sure why, I keep nagging!

Bettyboo is right though, I've seen footage of the Biden's arriving in Cornwall

All my friends have had it - one who is very "alternative" in that she uses all natural therapies said that she had done it not for herself, but for the elderly people she works with, which I thought was lovely. I know 2 people who have had Covid and suffered long term effects from it - one off work for nearly a year and still suffers from tinnitus (which she'd never had before); one is the son of a friend of mine who is 35 and had a stroke (he's still on blood-thinning medication). Most people i know who have Covid have been more tired since. So, for me, having the vaccine was a no-brainer. I would gently ask her why. Whether you avoid her in future or not is up to you - personally, I would forego any hugs!

I totally respect the right to make your own decision …. or do I? We live in a society with all its benefits so in a global pandemic should maybe step outside our comfort zones and get the vaccine! As for being afraid of being unwell - ??‍♀️??‍♀️ Give me strength! I only know one person who won’t get the jab, if I see him I will tell him he is a numpty and then move the conversation on. Why are so many of us in the 21st century so afraid of pain, discomfort, illness etc? As my dad would have said “ Strewth! Give me strength!” ?

If by chance I did end up with a blood clot and die, I think it would be preferable to lying in an intensive care bed, on my stomach, gasping for every breath.
Not that I want to die just yet, but I think the former would be the lesser of two evils!
I have had both my vaccinations.

Sueo246 Thu 10-Jun-21 16:11:33

Thankful I have no friends who would refuse the vaccine - I would be hard pushed not to tell any who did how daft they were being ! Sure many older folk have had their polio vaccines and others to travel and thus stamp out such awful diseases.

Sadly, yes and even though I care about them I find myself angry at the attitude of 'I might be poorly'. SO WHAT, ill for a day or so or protect yourself and everyone else? I felt dreadfully I'll after dose 1, hot, dizzy, nauseous etc, but after dose 2 not a thing.

My friend is in her own bubble of right to choose, which is correct. However she then becomes incredibly poor little me when I refuse to meet for coffee. My 91 year old FinL lives with us, and I want him to get to 92.

I never thought I’d ask for evidence, but bettyboo22 please send me a link to your research. I’m not in work today and I’ve just finished The Name of the Rose, so I’ll have time to read it.

I've had both my Pfizer vaccines, a little earlier than for my age bracket because I'm a Community Volunteer. I did feel a bit under the weather although I have to say that I felt far worse after my. pneumonia vaccination last August.
I would sooner feel under the weather for a couple of days than end up in intensive care. We will never eradicate the virus unless everyone steps up and gets vaccinated. Bet they'd all have it if a free flight to holidays destinations were on offer!

Dylant1234 Thu 10-Jun-21 16:00:04

I heard one such person say on the radio that he’d be all right because enough people are being vaccinated to give HIM herd immunity. I just thought, ‘selfish b******’. He had no medical reason not to have the vaccine but just didn’t fancy it!
I do know of a couple who aren’t having it and I’m not sure what I’ll do if I come across them at mutual friends’ houses. I certainly wouldn’t fancy chatting maskless to them, particularly indoors. If I feel uncomfortable around them I’ll probably quietly leave, although if asked why I’d be honest - that knowingly being close to unmasked and unvaccinated people makes me a bit anxious ………. I’m 68 with restricted lung capacity.

Those of you with friends who refuse to be vaccinated - send them to me. I have Long Covid. Today the fatigue means I am dragging myself around the house. I can't walk down to the end of our short road because I can't breathe when I exert myself. I am 55 kilos, don't look my age, was involved with musicals and am dram and lots of other activities before the pandemic and was healthy before Covid struck. Having the vaccine might make you feel ill for a few days afterwards. I have been ill since the middle of January.

Daftbag1 Thu 10-Jun-21 15:50:41

I think that anyone admitting to not being vaccinated is very brave, as they tend to be very misunderstood. I have been fully vaccinated but it was a decision that I only decided upon when my appointment was just minutes away. I was seriously concerned that there was no available data in respect of reactions with other medications and medical conditions. I appear to have ended up one of the lucky ones with really minimal side effects, but I still have doubts on safety.

I was also very disappointed to hear that the AZ vaccine only offers 60% cover.

It’s about the greater good. We should all be vaccinated and be grateful for it.

jenni123 Thu 10-Jun-21 15:40:37

I am one of the people at risk, I have had my jabs, both of them. I have a cleaner to help me, she comes once every 2 weeks for 2 hours, or she did, she decided last week to tell me that she hasn't had her jab and is not going to. I said but you go into quite a few peoples houses each week and many are venerable, she said it was up to her if she had it or not and yes she is quite right, but it is up to me whether I employ her, now I don't.

f77ms Thu 10-Jun-21 15:04:26

I know someone who is not having thw vaccination, he says it is only a cold! I have had Covid, caught in hospital while i was having tests. It was really dreadful and 3 months on i still have very little memory of the 3 weeks i spent in hospital and still get tired easily. I just wish that anyone who doesn't want the vaccination could experience just one day of what it actually feels like not to be able to get your breath and have hallucinations, they would be begging for the jab. I hope that these people face restrictions on their freedoms when we open up again.

My OH had a friend who is spouting forth about all the different conspiracy theories including that the vaccine is a government tool for culling the population. He does this most days on Facebook. My OH asked him , straight out, if he’s had his vaccinations. He replied that he’d had his some time ago because of an underlying health condition which made it imperative to do so. WTF ?

MoorlandMooner Thu 10-Jun-21 14:53:03

It is such a sad shame that something which is meant to bring us all back together has caused such division and judgemental behaviour.

@hazel93. I remember the measles outbreak - in particular I remember one distraught mother being interviewed on TV after being told that her son had been blinded by measles. She was pleading with other parents to rethink things and have their children vaccinated. She had refused the MMR vaccine after reading this nonsense and said she would never be able to forgive herself because her son had paid for her decision with his sight. When I listen to the arguments anti Vaxxers put forward as justification, I do often wonder if it crosses their minds that they could be responsible for passing on the virus to one of their family or friends, making them seriously ill, or even killing them. We all share the responsibility and we all have a duty to keep each other safe and take the strain off the NHS. Am watching the BBC series ‘Hospital’ at the moment, and it’s frightening to see the effect that Covid has had, and how long it will take just to catch up to where we were before it all started. It’s not just the virus itself, it’s the effect on everything else too.

HannahLoisLuke Thu 10-Jun-21 14:17:58

Wonder if they’ll change their mind if turned away at the airport when hoping to go on their overseas holiday.

Amberone Thu 10-Jun-21 14:15:16

I disgraced myself yesterday by laughing in someone's face as she explained all the reasons she won't be getting vaccinated. I wasn't aware before we met up that she wasn't being vaccinated as we haven't been in touch for some time.

After telling me I was ignorant and had no understanding of what was happening I pointed out that I was the one with the science degrees and had more knowledge in my little finger of molecular biology, genetics, physiology, epidemiology, microbiology and nutrition than she had in her whole body and she told me 'Oh yes, you may be clever enough for a degree but your're too stupid to understand that there's a government conspiracy' and left abruptly.

I had my second vaccination this morning so I fully expect the chip they've implanted to be activated soon and I'll get called away to the mothership. If I don't post again you'll know the theories are true.

@Biscuitmuncher. I too know several people who were unwell after the vaccine, including myself and my partner, but having had Covid in February I can 100% assure you that the side effects of the vaccine don’t compare to how the Covid virus can make you feel. It was THE most unwell I have ever felt and we both have ongoing symptoms of Long Covid, which are debilitating. In addition, whatever fear you have about the vaccine, the fear you feel during the first days of the Covid infection is much, much worse as the infection can turn very serious in a very short space of time and it’s not until around days 10-14 when you start to feel better, that you can start to relax a little and hope that you’ll be OK. To those of you out there who still think it’s ‘the flu’ I can assure you that it most certainly is not. Please just stop and think where we would be without the vaccines for smallpox or polio, and even the sometime controversial MMR vaccine. Vaccination is a choice up to a point, but in a pandemic I think any choice other than to have it is very selfish as you’re relying on the people who HAVE taken the risk, to keep you safe.
