Have you been 'pinged'?

How many of you have been 'pinged'? Did you self isolate for the number of days notified to you? Is the system working?

No pinging here! I always 'check in' with the NHS App when it's 'available' - but all I ever get is a message that reminds me restrictions are still in force in my area.

Just deleted the app grin

I have not installed the ap. until last week I had not been anywhere except once, where my daughter signed us in on her ap.

Last week we were away on holiday in U.K. and had to sign in on a sheet of paper at cafes, NT places and a pub( we did not eat out very often).
From what I now know, I am glad I haven’t got the app as it doesn’t seem very reliable.

To be honest, I didn't go anywhere to need an app. We started isolating pretty early on and have only visted open air places. I did have my doubts about the usefulness of the app. One of my friends has kids still at school and has had to isolate loads of times.

I did have to go to hospital but they didn't ask me to have the app for that. @Leggs55 I hope your Cellulitis clears up soon and yes you do need to attend appointments

Legs55 Tue 13-Jul-21 20:30:53

I don't use it, I had to self isolate for 14 days after an 11 day stay in Hospital (not Covid related) because 2 people on the ward tested positive, we all had to have a negative test before admission. I was tested 5 times during my Hospital stay, all negative.

In early March I was told to shield until 31st Marchconfused, my health conditions hadn't changed since the 1st lockdown. I was attending my GP Surgery every other day, this caused them a lot of extra work.

I have no wish to self isolate again, DD removed it off her phone after some-one told her that once she had checked in to Martial Arts the app presumed she was there all evening not just for an hour. Potentially if some-one tested positive in later classes she would have to self isolate along with her Partner & DGSs even though she couldn't have come into contact with themconfused

I will continue mask wearing, social distancing, sanitzing & avoid crowded places. I need to attend all my medical appointments both to help heal my severe Cellulitis & for my mental health

I never did work out how to install the app...

@Janetashbolt that's interesting and a bit puzzling!

Danma Tue 13-Jul-21 18:27:02

Yes, twice ?

MerylStreep Tue 13-Jul-21 17:51:59

GrannySomerset
I would imagine that you delete it like any other app.
Just hold your finger on the image, delete or move box will drop down: press delete.

MerylStreep Tue 13-Jul-21 17:46:29

Here’s another one who’s ditched the app.

Work for a GP told not to load app

MaggsMcG Tue 13-Jul-21 17:02:19

My husband was emailed when he tested positive. He was in hospital at the time and that's where he caught it. He had tested negative at least three times since being admitted. I am on the NHS Covid-19 app but no one contacted me.

GrannySomerset Tue 13-Jul-21 16:20:22

Camelot - that would explain a lot. How do you delete it? I

DaisyL Tue 13-Jul-21 16:06:38

Like one of the previous posters my granddaughter was pinged when she had only been in her car outside and she thinks it was probably from another car - she ignored it!!!

MerylStreep Tue 13-Jul-21 15:58:41

My step daughter works for Deloitte. She was one of many who developed their track & trace system.
She doesn’t have it on her phone ?

songstress60 Tue 13-Jul-21 15:43:19

NO I have not been pinged and I will not be either because I utterly refuse to have the NHS installed on my phone. I have been vaccinated so I will NOT tolerate any more attacks on my freedom. This is becoming like a communist country, and I am sick of it.

Camelotclub Tue 13-Jul-21 14:47:40

I took the app off my phone as it guzzles memory and phone needed recharging almost daily.

maddyone Tue 13-Jul-21 14:46:53

I downloaded the app and used it several times to check in to various establishments. I was never pinged. Anyway following bad press with regard to this app I’ve deleted it.

TrendyNannie6 Tue 13-Jul-21 14:34:57

Yes I have the app, but never been pinged, saying that one of my friends had it and was pinged but hadn’t left her house for month lives alone , I didn’t understand how it worked hadn’t seen anyone got online shopping del outside her door but never answered until the person had left, so no contact whatsoever, with anyone

Elvis58 Tue 13-Jul-21 14:34:38

Got the app used it, never been pinged.

MrsHappy Tue 13-Jul-21 14:27:56

I was pinged about a month ago. I have had Covid and vaccinated twice. I therefore carefully isolated my phone and after 10 days deleted the app. Sorted.

Happysexagenarian Tue 13-Jul-21 14:09:56

The app doesn't work on my phone, so no. Mind you I've only been out five times in the past 18 months, and we live in a quiet rural area.

Lollipop1 Tue 13-Jul-21 12:34:41

I have been pinged but the person I was with wasn't contacted. I've had the app from the start she doesn't have it. I had to isolate for 8 days, cancel a long awaited for appointment with a consultant and a physio appointment. I had a PCR test, filled in a form asking if I had been double jabbed etc and I honestly thought that I would get a dispensation but I didn't. I did a RFT every day for 8 days. No covid. I've deleted the app.

GrannyGear Tue 13-Jul-21 12:29:29

I had the app some time ago. I've now deleted it. I discovered that when you are "pinged" there is no information about when and where the supposed contact occurred. If I were told the place and date - as simple as "yesterday in Manchester" I might be inclined to follow the advice and isolate.
It seems as if anyone with a modicum of computer expertise and a total lack of scruples can send notices to app users telling them to self-isolate, thus causing annoyance and distress and financial loss when people in all innocence stay away from work or important medical appointments.
No App - No pings. No worries.

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 13-Jul-21 12:23:57

Thankfullly I haven't been pinged - never mind self isolating - I'd go into panic mode!!

GraceQuirrel Tue 13-Jul-21 12:11:27

Turned off the contact tracing ages ago. Can’t afford to be off work and I’ve been double jabbed anyway.
