This is very informative about the potential risks, and also lays out the protection levels.

I’ve just read that Chris Whitty has said that England could be sent into another lockdown within weeks as Covid cases are rising fast. Am I imagining it or is this not the same Chris Whitty who stood alongside BJ only last Monday and appeared to endorse lifting restrictions from the 19th? How can anyone have any faith in this government they obviously don’t have a clue what to do next.
O

An American scientist with the agreement from scientists from NZ, Italy, SA, Taiwan, U.K. and others said that the herd immunity policy being pursued by the U.K. government is unconscionable. It is barbaric.
It has been found that covid attacks children’s brains in particular and apparently shrinks them. The capacity for the brain to recover is poor.
What Johnson is doing is genocide - no question.
“Queen Elizabeth Hospital B’ham has just cancelled all planned ops for 2 days - including life-or-death liver transplants.
They have 163 Covid inpatients, 26 in ICU.
We TOLD you,
@BorisJohnson
.
We told you.
You couldn’t care less.”
Who said the vaccines aren’t good enough Wwmk2? It’s the first I’ve heard of it?
Oh yes, more scaremongering.
It’s been proved that the vaccines cut the link between infections and hospitalisation.
Every day several hundred thousand more people are being vaccinated, so there is no need to panic.
Yes we know the predominant Indian variant is more transmissible but I haven’t heard or read anything to say it’s a more dangerous variant.
Once the NHS App has been properly adjusted to stop it alerting all and sundry to self isolate, the situation will improve.
As far as I am aware, the facts about the virus are still much as they have always been in that, yes it can be nasty for a minority of people, but the vast majority of people who catch it make a full recovery.
Wow! The opinion now is that herd immunity cannot be reached even at 100% vaccination, because the vaccines are not good enough.
Mitigation will have to continue until better vaccines are produced.
Schools are breaking up. Over the next few weeks families will be travelling to all parts of the country to holiday destinations taking the virus from high infection rate areas to low infection rate areas. They will be going into various motorway service stations, bars, cafes, amusement arcades etc. Unmasked. At the height of the holiday season the country might have to go into lockdown.I know this is worst case scenario but shouldn’t we have learned over the past 18 months to plan for the worst? If the government had just continued with the measures in place we could have continued to have a relatively safe summer. The rest of the world is looking on in horror. I read that we will be a country with the highest infection rate but with the least measures to combat spread of the virus. I can’t make any sense of that.
Nothing the U.K. is doing is scientifically sound.

Scientists are now saying Boris's policy is a threat to the whole world.
Whatever is he thinking?

Scientists all around the world are saying that the U.K. government strategy has no support throughout the world.
The policy defies all logic.
There is no trade off between the economy and health. The two in fact run in tandem.
Scientists are now saying Boris's policy is a threat to the whole world.

When you see that some still believe that Trump won the American election and some still believe that the majority voted for Brexit then yes, Whitewave, some will still believe.
However, and thankfully, most will eventually work it out. Then we have to find out who they think, from the Tory/Conservative party can actually take this on as they are unlikely to call an election until they have to. I think it will be a long time before we are out of this.
There is a summit now taking place between scientists from all over the world about the decisions being taken in the U.K.
It is considered to be disastrous.
I wonder what Johnson will come up with this time as an excuse?
More to the point will anyone believe him.
or Wednesday
Apparently this so called “freedom day” is irreversible.
Until it isn’t of course. Which may be Monday or 3 weeks time or 5 weeks time. Who knows.

The issue is that because hospitalisation is a couple of weeks behind infection rates, hospitalisations and deaths are going to increase very significantly in the next few weeks.
I seem to know a lot more people who have caught it in the last couple of weeks too, I don’t know if anybody else is the same, but the reported figures are probably a big underestimate because vaccinated people have milder symptoms generally, so probably aren’t being tested - but are passing it on.
Thanks Caslon. Yes I’m looking at how things might play out over the next few weeks if the current infection rate continues to increase.
I’m pretty certain we will all be be banged up again before winter.

My son had what can be described a s a bad cold. His LFT test came back negative and I only ordered a PCR because he'd just returned from university - so it was a 'to be on the safe side' thing. He already felt well again by the time the positive result came through. He told me he was going out that night and I said, you had better wait until your result as it isn't fair to other people and he reluctantly stayed in and was texted that evening. We all tested negative via pcr following that. But yes, we know loads of people either with it or self isolating, especially in the last month
I'm out of self isolation tomorrow after one of older boys tested positive but we know so many people that are positive or self isolating. the youngest boys attendance officer said 'more are out than in' and I'm receiving several emails a day about positive cases. It does seem weird we are just going to open everything up.
I feel sorry for people who work in shops.
Obviously blinko the U.K. JCVI are not advocating vaccinating under 18’s at the moment.

I think it's too soon to say that with any certainty.
Just my opinion, which I accept is based on absolutely no scientific knowledge.

The gov website says 67%.
Do you have a link? I would be amazed if 67% of the total population has been fully vaccinated.
67% of the adult population...

So, if the hospitals are over run with covid patients and under staffed by NHS workers either ill themselves or totally burnt out what do you propose to do other than having another lockdown?
The hospitals are not overrun with Covid patients, many NHS staff are self isolating having been erroneously pinged by the app (which is currently being looked into)
The vaccines are preventing serious illness, hospitalisations and massively reduced the mortality rate.
