Chris Whitty - another lockdown

I’ve just read that Chris Whitty has said that England could be sent into another lockdown within weeks as Covid cases are rising fast. Am I imagining it or is this not the same Chris Whitty who stood alongside BJ only last Monday and appeared to endorse lifting restrictions from the 19th? How can anyone have any faith in this government they obviously don’t have a clue what to do next.

O

People are relaxing already in preparation for freedom day.
We'll have to just hope enough has been done so we can finally get ahead (or, perhaps we already are? What a lovely thought!)

*posts should be population flipping predictive text!!!!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 16-Jul-21 10:57:03

MissA I know, just so over the whole thing now.
We were told vaccination was our freedom pass, the vulnerable and older generation all double vaccinated. Majority of Younger ones have had at least one jab.

I wouldn’t like to be the person to decide on another lockdown in England, I do not think the majority of the posts would comply again.

I am not a scientist, in my opinion Alegriaa1 has continually explained calmly and clearly many facts related to Covid throughout the pandemic.

She certainly has, but we still ended up going back into lockdown, as some of us thought would happen.

P.S
It may be wrong, before anyone else says I've got it all arse about face.

The percentage is given if you scroll down past the alarming graphs.

Shouldn't make claims, obviously.wink

GrannyGravy13 Fri 16-Jul-21 10:27:14

growsuff I was referring to how suddenly everyone is concerned with long Covid (rightly so in proportion) whereas ME has been with us for decades, with little research and disparaging names - yuppie flu and such like.

Alegrias1 Fri 16-Jul-21 10:19:57

But your statistics are wrong.

You mean I said 1.2 to 1.5 and you said 1.1 to 1.4?

This is why people who don't understand statistical analysis should make claims based on statistics.

Well for your sakes I hope it isn't like ours. No visitors except one in your 'bubble'. Only a 5 km radius allowed for essential shopping/exercise. Shops etc all shut except chemists and supermarkets. Masks indoors and outdoors. Only allowed one other person to exercise/walk with. Lockdown seems to be more often than not round here. They will let you go out to get a vaccination or have a Covid test. Aren't we lucky? Might go just for something to do....

And just remind me how many people in your country have died from covid?

Yes growstuff I do. Which is why I explained it in simple terms above for those who don't.

But your statistics are wrong.

PippaZ Fri 16-Jul-21 10:09:56

That would be good to read Lucca.

Lucca Fri 16-Jul-21 10:08:39

Do you know I read this whole thread and am still none the wiser. The whole thing is full of people quoting one set of statistics and others saying no that’s wrong.

(BTW. I read a really interesting thing about the future likelihood of these viruses being with us. It was in Italian and if I have time I will translate it as I think it’s a good read. )

What's not what you said?

I know some children are being sent home unnecessarily, but how would you identify the ones who have been infected? By the time they've taken a PCR test it's too late.

Alegrias1 Fri 16-Jul-21 10:07:46

I just don't understand why you continue to deny facts.

Well really PippaZ, when people start going on about the R number without knowing how its works, can't agree on the fraction of people fully vaccinated although it's all over many sources, and allege the government is planning on killing its own citizens, I feel my "patronising" comment about panicking is a bit justified.

I know how it works. Do you?

growstuff Fri 16-Jul-21 10:04:06

The BBC claims 35 million have been fully vaccinated. That's just over 50% of the population.

The gov website says 67%.

Do you have a link? I would be amazed if 67% of the total population has been fully vaccinated.

PippaZ Fri 16-Jul-21 09:59:33

I have come late to this thread.

Firstly let me tell Alegrias1 that her patronising comment about people on here [Fri 16-Jul-21 08:16:19] starting to run around with their hands in the air again, is just that. I am not surprised about the way this is going; I am very, very angry.

The fault does not lie with Witty - he can only advise. Nor does it lie with the media. Oh yes, they post silly headlines and often very little of the "one the one hand ... or on the other ..." they tend to back their horse in the race, but we know that; those with any sense take it into account. Neither are the decision-makers though they can make our actions on those decisions better or worse.

The current situation lies at the door of one person who does not care for the country but only for power and could see it slipping because of a few of his extreme MPs threatening not to stand by him.

People will die, people will be ill whilst we will still not have the one thing that would make this more possible - a decent test and trace system and there is only one door to lay that at.

Has anyone any facts about long covid cases?
Perhaps I could look, but then I get told the source is unreliable, no matter who it comes from.

I wish people had/would take ME as seriously as Long Covid both are post viral illnesses.

So just because ME hasn't been treated properly, long Covid should be ignored?
