I know, it would have to get very dire for there to be another full lockdown Alegrias1, I’m sure we are all hoping it doesn’t come to that again - presumably the process would be to take us back up the steps we have just come down, imposing restrictions in the same order they were lifted. The next few weeks will tell us where it’s heading.

I have a daughter just diagnosed with an autoimmune disease with immunosuppressant drugs as a treatment. She's only 22 and terrified. Her illness makes complications from Covid a greater risk even though vaccinated. What are the approx 3.5 million vulnerable supposed to do, how do they work if needed, get around if cannot drive and then need emergency treatment?

With hospitals filling up with Covid patients other urgent treatments are going out the window. This government makes me sick. What on earth was wrong with keeping masks mandatory and social distancing in place? That is not an invasion of your freedom, it's common sense whilst the virus runs riot.

The UK's stupidity spread the Kent variant around the world. High cases leads to new variants, The rest of the world is looking at us in disbelief. I have friends in various parts of the world and their press are wiping the floor with us.

A signed letter from scientists in the UK and globally pleading for us not to fully open in the UK today as this is a global issue NOT just about what happens here, totally ignored by government.

It's fairly likely we will have another lockdown at some stage. The NHS is already falling apart. Trying to get help and treatment for my duaghter which she needs urgently even after one lot of emergency surgery has and continues to be hell due to government cut backs, Brexit and Covid. I have now had to borrow money to get an urgent provate MRI scan 10 days to get the scan 3 days to get results versus NHS 4 to 6 week wait for scan and 8 to 12 weeks for results and that's for an urgent case!!!!!

Sorry I am so angry, frustrated and worried sick for my daughter.

From all I see and hear all governments have made mistakes even those that shouted loudest in the early days have gone quiet as their own countries have succumbed and a number have been found to be less than honest in the statistics they provide.

Very few of them have managed to kill as many of their citizens as ours has, Kamiso.

And they do seem to learn by their mistakes instead of consistently making them over and over again.

MayBee70 and Casdon, thank you for giving information. Actually, I do read Spike and what is more I do actually agree that going into lockdown should have happened sooner.

Unlike some others I can see where mistakes are made but try to understand why. Firstly, Boris is libertarian politically although being in government makes that more difficult! But some people here seem to ignore the problems lockdown caused mainly to the economy but also to the social fabric of the country…to family, to friends and to children. We have lots of people arriving in the country from all parts of the world who could bring an unseen virus with them and I do think we were far too slow in carrying out basic tests, not that taking temperatures is conclusive. It is just an example of our laxness. I was really just not allowing Whitewave2 to get away with ignoring the question.. Being a Conservative is not the easiest of positions here. I conclude that many members are grans but much younger than me. And the politics here ( or at least of those who post) are more to the Left than me, but the constant posts by a few members who are only here to push their own agenda. Just now and then the desire to argue back has me replying. I should just ignore some people …I know that and should let others do a better job than I can.

Yes, he is the same Chris Witty. I do believe he is briefed on what he has to say prior to appearing on the televised briefing.

Did anyone catch what the percentage of those going into hospital who are double jabbed was? I got a bit overwhelmed by multiple percentages.

I do like Beth Rigby's forensic reporting. I have to agree with her; Johnson is a worried man.

That's what I thought I heard. Of course, it's not as bad as it sounds as it's 60% of hospital admissions. It was higher than I had expected, though. I expected a higher percentage of young unvaccinated.

But to put it in perspective, now that so many are double jabbed there will be a certain number of people, mainly the vulnerable, ending up in hospital after 2 jabs anyway.
That was my simple understanding?

Maybe just maybe the government hope that, by young people seeing their friends catching covid they might be persuaded to then have the vaccination? But the government wouldn’t do anything as underhand as that, would they ?

Good point Rosie, but during the next 10 weeks there will be no excuse for the young not be double jabbed by the end of September. Which is pretty much the start of the university year too.

Some will still refuse to be jabbed their is quite a lot of anger about this already and it may well be reversed

Mine too Ellianne. It still means that more people who have had two vaccinations are falling ill than people who have had one or none. Even though the people who have had them are a bigger cohort I still find that surprising.

On another point, I may scream at the next Conservative MP who trips out "we have to learn to live with it". It's trite and meaningless.

What we probably have to do is learn to coexist with it. If I live with "something" it's usually of benefit to me (and possibly the "thing"). Coexisting is not nearly as pleasant or as easy.

Thank you for that rosie. That feels more like what I expected. That means 60% are only one or none to 40% double.
