Very exciting! My best friend lives in Abu Dhabi and is now booked on flights for next week. Her dd, sil and two years granddaughter live round the corner from me. She will stay until October although her husband will have to get back to work in two weeks. Can’t wait !

Oh you are so lucky. Overseas travel is but a distant dream for us over here. The highlight of our week is, once again, a trip to see the specials at Aldi. All our holidays have been cancelled( not by us but the tour companies). All our socialising is on hold. Well the garden will benefit, as usual and so will the knitting and sewing projects. Not to mention the reading and spending time on gransnet! The bathrooms are positively gleaming.

If we are lucky my daughter, son in law and 20 month granddaughter are arriving for two weeks next Friday from USA. I was able to meet my granddaughter when she was 3 months old, but no one else in the family, including my husband, have met her yet. He was due to travel to US with me January last year, but due to a heart problem had to cancel 2 days before our trip.

I imagine you are so excited, it will be a very special time. Make sure you get some great family photos of this special time.

Update...my daughter wants us to next Wednesday..her company are paying for us..but H doesn't want to travel yet...I have travelled a lot by myself, not worried about that...its just all the ifs and buts!!!...conflicting advice etc on different sites...will know more when I speak to her tomorrow.....*Janeea*..how comfortable do you feel about going?

They are talking about next year 2022 for opening up Australia. Meanwhile we are only allowed to travel 5 km from our own home let alone go near any airports. We have 75 active cases, mostly overseas travellers in isolation. Different country, different way of handling it. I think vaccination rate is around 20 %.

So pleased for you “farview”. Totally understand how you feel, my grandson in Oz was 2 yesterday, we last saw him at 4 months. It WILL be a long wait but it will come eventually, thank goodness for FaceTime and vaccines. Good luck for October

Great that you can see your grandchildren. Wish it were so for me, mine are in NZ so goodness knows when I’ll ever see them again. It would be easier to get into Fort Knox than it is to get into “fortress NZ” ☹️

I haven't seen my son, daughter in law and 2 little grandchildren now for over 2 years. My DS works n lives in Tokyo he’s just had his second vaccination today v fortunate as Japan very far behind in the vaccination programme. The Japanese people didn’t want the Olympics due to risk of Covid increasing which it has. I think it will be next year possibly before Japan will open up to visitors.
