Times article claim that Waspi women are tone deaf and should read the room
Javid said this week that the infection rates are stable, bit up, bit down. In fact it seems that management means just ignore it and it will go away. Why are the public so accepting? It's pretty much a scandal, hundreds of people dying each week and yet it's pretty much ignored. This article highlights some pretty horrendous facts

I’m scared to ask DD how DGS is given that, when he returned to school he appeared to have symptoms of long covid. Hoping that no news is good news but DD does protect me from stuff like this. Angry beyond belief that he didn’t get to have his vaccination and that the protective measures we wanted to be put in place were not implemented as we saw infection rates rise. And still aren’t….

Johnson says today that the current infection rate is not outside of the ‘figures that were predicted’.Can someone tell me when we were told that 50,000 people a day was predicted other than in a worst case scenario way? Surely he can’t be lying. Again.
Chris Whitty produced a model prediction that post freedom day Covid daily numbers were likely to be 100,000 +
No where near that yet…
But getting there ...
Government policy has brought us to the situation where 50000 infections a day is ok, 800 people in ICU and we are still in October. You really don't have to be a genius to see where this is heading. Half term next week in England may give some respite, but maybe more older people getting infections because of child care? Fingers crossed and whistling in the dark is our plan.
It’s difficult to give the vaccination to secondary aged children at the moment as so many of them have had Covid recently so cannot have the jab - not sure for how long afterwards, maybe 90 days?
My nephew, age 15, is in year 11, and his school delivered mass vaccinations last week, just before half term. There is a follow up visit by NHS vaccinators in two weeks time. But my nephew had Covid two weeks ago and at least half his year group have been absent this half term with Covid so none of them could have the jab and many cannot attend the booster session either.
Now it’s down to my sister to arrange the vaccination for him once he is able to have it but she has not found a way to book one yet! The NHS app rejects her attempts, possibly because it is only intended for carers, key workers or vulnerable people ( which is what it says on the first page) or because of his age/ date of birth. Her GP practice is not involved with the vaccinations this time so can’t help her although I would have thought they would know how he can register. School are also unhelpful, other than to say they will not be offering any more vaccination sessions!
Very frustrating!
1 in 7 children who have had covid, are suffering from long covid.
That is grim.
GrannyGravy but unfortunately numbers are rising relentlessly. Although the biggest number are school children, unfortunately they then pass it on to mum and dad, and grandparents. The higher the number of infections, the more it will spread in the wider community.

Just been for my flu jab and was very pleased to get it. Just waiting for my booster now, I hope it won’t be long. I’m not feeling very safe at the moment and will feel better when I’ve had my booster.
I know Callistemon, we had just enough normal life to give us a taste and now it’s back again with a vengeance. I really have had enough. My daughter charmingly told us tonight that pandemics can last 5-10 years! Let’s hope she’s not right, she only said can not will.
I hoped it might be on the wane by now maddyone.
I am thoroughly fed up with it, too.
Stable. I think the stable door was open, and the horse has bolted and the government didn’t notice.
I think you’re right Callistemon. I’m weary of it to be honest, but I know we’ve got to start being extra vigilant again.
I know Maybee, I used to love cruises, and we were lucky enough to explore some far flung places through cruising, but I wouldn’t even think of going on a cruise now. We’ve been pretty careful, but not as careful as you Maybee. We’ve seen our family when it was allowed, we’ve eaten out too, but eating out will have to stop till next summer I think, unless the numbers drop We’ve used rentals for holidays, and I’ve chosen rentals that were not in crowded places or big blocks, just individual cottages or houses that were not in towns. We’ve just returned from the Isle of Wight and we had a lovely little cottage to stay in, but the numbers of people without masks on the ferry both amazed and frightened me. They seem to have forgotten there is any Covid.
Understood
it seems that not many children have been offered the vaccine. I’m wondering why not?
Because so many are off school either with Covid or other ailments and waiting for test results, so I have understand around here.

What’s so frustrating is that we’ve been so careful for 20 months now. Haven’t seen the family, have met up with no one indoors. Haven’t been shopping or to the cinema etc etc All because we thought the more careful we were the sooner we could start seeing the family again and live a normal life. And now I feel that the goalposts have been moved yet again. SAGE haven’t ruled out the possibility of new variants either. Is there ever going to be an end to all this? I don’t understand these cruises round the coast. Not only are people in a confined space but they then stop off at different places, possibly pick up the virus and infect people at the next port of call.
I’ve just heard tonight that a couple we know quite well are both poorly with Covid. They managed to escape the virus till now, but they chose to go on a cruise around Britain. To be honest I can’t think of a holiday where a person would be more likely to get Covid. Another friend and her husband got Covid recently and they escaped first time round too. Both couples were vaccinated twice, three of them with AZ, one of them with Pfizer.
My daughter, currently working in New Zealand, has warned us seriously tonight of the dangers again. The last time she did that was at the beginning in March 2020. She’s a GP and she reads all the relevant directives from government in the UK as well as New Zealand as she wants to keep abreast of what’s going on here for their return (if they do return.) She also reads a lot of the GP forums and is aware of the feelings of GPs in Britain at the moment. However the main thing is that she’s been warning us is to take great care, with things as they are the moment.

I think that staffing is the issue. Because the 12 - 15s programme is running at the same time as the covid boosters and flu vaccinations, there just aren't enough vaccinators available. Private schools are getting through the pupils better because they often have a resident nurse on the staff list.
maddyone- why indeed. It seems that schools are really struggling at the moment with education being disrupted and staff in some areas at the end of their tether. www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/22/english-schools-struggling-to-cope-as-covid-wreaks-havoc
I'm also wondering why this isn't a major news issue with the permanent damage that is now being inflicted. Why are people so accepting??
I’m puzzled about what has happened to the 12-15 age group vaccines. It was announced that children of this age were to be offered vaccinations at the beginning of September, and yet here we are at the end of October and judging from a number of Gransnetters who have said that their grandchildren haven’t yet been offered a vaccine, it seems that not many children have been offered the vaccine. I’m wondering why not?
My grandchildrens' school is over-run with infection, huge numbers of children have tested positive and the 12-15 year olds have not yet been given the opportunity to be jabbed.

My impression is that school vaccination of 12-15 yr olds is slow for organisational reasons rather than parental or teenager reluctance. Scottish system much better, but are the centres for school-age also doing the booster jabs?
It isn’t being helped by the fact the so many schoolchildren (eg my grandson) can’t have their vaccine because they have covid. Something that could have been avoided if we’d followed other countries and vaccinated them in the holidays.
It really surprises me that by the sounds of it mask wearing was only sporadic where you visited in Wales Mollygo, everybody seems to comply where I am, and people do get turned away from shops if they go in without. The supermarkets aren’t so good, because they don’t police the doors, but I’ve seen other customers telling people off for not wearing one on a number of occasions. It definitely feels much safer than when I visit family in the Midlands, people don’t seem to socially distance either, never mind wear masks.
