Your idea of stable??

Javid said this week that the infection rates are stable, bit up, bit down. In fact it seems that management means just ignore it and it will go away. Why are the public so accepting? It's pretty much a scandal, hundreds of people dying each week and yet it's pretty much ignored. This article highlights some pretty horrendous facts

nanna8, there has to be a sensible middle road between isolation - and our peculiar 'it's all over' behaviour. Mask wearing and social distancing should still be encouraged, wherever possible.

Dorsetcupcake61, the 'government who cares little for the vulnerable' is spot on. In fact, I'd take it further. Someone, somewhere, is gleefully calculating the 'savings' in pension and disability payments.

It all comes down to money, after all. Installing good ventilation systems in schools, discouraging socialising, travel and Christmas get togethers - never - what about the economy?

The companies are called Atos and Capita! Bizarrely Atos sponsors the Paralympics which is disgusting!!

We are seeing a slight rise here in France. It is now 47 per 100,000 for the whole country and 37 where we live. Interestingly the biggest increase is in the 0-9 age group and the 30-39s who are presumably the vaccinated parents of the little ones.
I know someone will be along to say the UK tests more, but over the past months, UK tests have been twice as high as France and UK (overall) infections ten times as high.
You can see the success of the vaccinations on the 12-18 group in the low numbers there.

All I can say is I’ve had a lousy day and the news that numbers are (hopefully) dropping is a bit of a pick up for me.

Apart from the roll out of vaccines to children and half term, it's possible the general decrease is the result of people being less complacent because they've been panicked. Just carry on being careful.

I listened to this medical expert Professor Carl Heneghan, Director of U of Oxford Centre for Evidence- Based Medicine, rather than what journalists pick and choose to write. Your can find it on youtu.be/Hl52KPteESU.

Just be aware that Carl Heneghan picks and chooses what to write too. Most scientists who actually work with viruses and doctors on the frontline in hospitals disagree profoundly with what he writes. He has a specific agenda (related to herd immunity) and chooses his evidence to fit it.

Thank you GG13.

It’s scary isn’t it? I think when it’s sunny and the figures go down we all start to hope it’s easing off and we start to feel reassured.

Covid doesn’t like sunny warm weather. But the autumn and winter will be a big test won’t it?

Our postcode, in a very rural part of SW England, has a current covid rate of more than 1200 per 100,000. Obviously these are only confirmed tests. The true rate must be considerably higher.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Oct-21 19:00:39

That’s really high Urmstongran our postcode is under 400 per 100,000, be careful X

Urmstongran Mon 25-Oct-21 18:52:08

Still too high though.
This from the Manchester Evening News:

“Flixton and Moorside in Trafford, where the infection rate was above a thousand in recent weeks, has dropped to 829.5 per 100,000 people.”

I hope half-term works some magic.
Our booster doses are due in a fortnight.
?

Urmstongran Mon 25-Oct-21 18:38:07

Hopefully this half term week here in England will be a circuit breaker. Numbers do seem to be coming down. 33% less in Trafford than 2 weeks ago when the figures were super high.

Wales will be about 7-8,000 I would guess because they report two days every Monday, as they don’t report on Saturday - so it will be Saturday and Sundays figures today.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Oct-21 17:17:21

Apparently Wales has a hick-up with their number crunching and they have not been released yet.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Oct-21 17:16:21

Here are Scotland and N.Ireland’s figures

Thanks for the information GG13.

A Labour MSP on the news last night told us that people who got their booster a bit later than they (the Labour Party) thought they should have it would be more likely to get Covid than not. And the Labour Party twitter says that cases are spiralling.

And they wonder why people don't vote for them. (Maybe I should put this on one of the Politics threads!)

GrannyGravy13 Mon 25-Oct-21 16:50:50

Today’s numbers are nearly 13,000 less than last Monday’s, let’s hope we are turning the corner…

Alegrias1 Sun 24-Oct-21 19:05:29

Its only misleading to those who don't understand the maths of it, which you obviously do MayBee70.

MayBee70 Sun 24-Oct-21 17:51:43

But isn’t that because most people are now vaccinated so statistically more vaccinated people will be catching it. It makes it sound as though vaccinations don’t work at all which is misleading to put it mildly.

Alegrias1 Sun 24-Oct-21 17:44:19

Additionally why is it made loud and clear that a majority who are in hospital are not vaccinated.

The majority in hospital are vaccinated. smile

I would be very surprised if they are denying treatment to the unvaccinated in Australia - maybe one of the Australian Grans knows.

Nana56 Sun 24-Oct-21 17:07:01

I fail to understand why we can't carry on wearing masks. It's not a big deal. Also I think we have to realise that covid is not going away. We have to be sensible and live with it, rather like the flu.
I fail to understand why some are not vaccinated. We could end up in lockdown because a few are refusing.
Additionally why is it made loud and clear that a majority who are in hospital are not vaccinated . I believe in Australia you are not automatically treated if you are I vaccinated.
I would insist on giving vaccine before treating.
Sorry, had to have a rant

Just to throw confusion into the mix, there appears to be a number of viruses about that are similar to Covid in their symptoms. My niece told me during our telephone conversation today that her daughter and husband had Covid/flu/cold symptoms last week. They did several lateral flow tests, all negative, and then PCR tests, also negative. Now she’s coming down with similar symptoms too.

We have the same in this area, I have had a nasty chest infection/asthma flare up (antibiotics and steroids) DD, DIL’s, DS’s and GC have all had cold/flu/throat/tummy bugs, all tested negative. I guess it’s due to not being unexposed to bugs for the last eighteen + months and all our resistances being lower than in normal times.

Maggie Throupe said on LBC that plan a is working so plan b doesn’t have to be implemented. Is that the plan to achieve herd immunity via schoolchildren Maggie? My younger grandson had covid symptoms last night albeit being clear on a lateral flow test. If he catches covid as well as his brother my anger will be stratospheric.

I agree with you Caslon, I feel so much safer in Wales and people are following the rules
