News channels reporting with the increase of covid infections saying we should be all returning to face mask wearing...how do GNs feel if/when it becomes compulsory again?

A properly made surgical grade mask does offer protection to others, which is why surgeons and theatre nurses wear them.

No-one has ever claimed that they protected the wearer , so telling the public that they protected the wearer would quite frankly have been a lie.

In order to offer protection, the mask must of course cover both mouth and nose. I imagine, that like me, you have seen loads of people wearing theirs below their nose!

They should also only be used once, disposed of in a closed plastic bag and the wearer should then have disinfected hands.

I think we all know that few people bothered with all these precautions every time they wore a mask.

As yet I have never seen any statistics that prove conclusively that mask do not work in safeguarding others from Covid 19, so if anyone has an article that proves this, would they please post a link?

No I'm not and I can breathe easier. I have a lung condition so really am genuinely exempt but did wear a mask to comply with regulations. Couldn't stay in any shops for very long as I was struggling to breathe. Don't think I will wear one again. Have spoken to practice nurse and she confirmed I'm exempt on medical grounds

Have you thought the people catching covid are probably the ones who wear masks, clean the supermarket trolley and keep using the antibacterial gel as though it’s going out of fashion
That are ruining their immune system, which has nothing to fight a virus with.

I wonder. That was our daughter all last summer.
She caught Covid mid September and was very poorly.

Mostly it wearing a mask unless a place is crowded - more as I can’t breathe properly wearing one!

Good job you don’t live in Greece then. You’d never go into a public building from one years end to the next. It’s illegal in Greece (and some other countries) to enter a public building without a mask. How would you get on then?

I haven't stopped wearing a face mask in shops or crowded places. I have noticed that a lot of people do not bother now in Supermarkets, even the staff aren't wearing them. I would prefer to be as safe as possible especially with my son in school with rising case numbers and all of us having health issues. I am really worried about the colder winter months and will try and avoid crowds as much as possible.

If masks don’t do anything to protect anyone why do medical professionals wear them? They may as well do operations and deal with Covid patients completely maskless!

I always wear a mask when out and about. The quicker the government bite the bullet and make them compulsory again, the better. People should view them as a safety precaution rather than a restriction. People who don't wear masks (provided they have no medical reason that they can't) are risking the health of others not just themselves which is morally indefensible.

Mostly not wearing a mask unless a place is crowded - more as I can’t breathe properly wearing one! I am being careful in what I do and where I go and being considerate to others.
I’m doubled jabbed and have just had covid for the 2nd time!!
Far too much confusing information from the start about all things covid - especially now with the testing and the reliability of it all!
Who has an agenda and who doesn’t! Who can you trust really ?!
* Am not really happy with the way emotional blackmail is used to get younger people (or anyone) to get the vaccine - people have got to be able to make an informed decision for themselves and not be lambasted for their choice if others don’t agree. Causing division.

I always wear my mask and indeed forget I've got it on. I practice social distancing too. No hugging, handshakes or siting next to others on the bus.
We all do this at work too.

Scrapgranny Fri 22-Oct-21 11:39:41

Yes I do. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t.

Teddy123 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:39:13

I've not stopped using a mask. Don't intend to!

And I accept it gracefully smile

I’m still wearing one too in the same way as before

Urmstongran Fri 22-Oct-21 11:37:18

Is ‘making people feel safer’ the same as ‘making people safer’?
Asking for a friend.

I still wear one in shops...will continue to do so. The low levels of flu last winter was put down to mask wearing and keeping distance from people.

Speldnan Fri 22-Oct-21 11:36:47

PS I wear KN95 masks which protect the wearer as well as others. They are standard in Europe.

Yes all the time. The most stupid thing the government ever did was to drop the mask mandate- everyone was used to it and it did no harm to anyone, but it might’ve done some good in lessening the spread and making people feel safer.

Cossy Fri 22-Oct-21 11:35:00

I am wearing mine for places like Boots, and crowed areas

pinkjj27 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:34:02

I never stopped wearing one. Sometimes I am the only person in a shop with one on, but hay-ho I always been a trend setter. I have lupus, so I do all I can to look after myself in all sorts of ways not just when it comes to covid.

polnan Fri 22-Oct-21 11:33:49

Yes, I have continued to wear it ,however our church has lapsed imo.. and it should be made compulsory imo

absam1 Fri 22-Oct-21 11:33:25

I wear a face mask in shops, hairdresser and public transport. We're not protecting ourselves so much as others. Many of the shops ask politely for their customers to wear them, so I do, it is respectful to shop workers. I'm amazed on public transport how few people wear them. My grandsons (10 and 7) have now moved to Italy and they wear them in school and have their temperature taken on entering the school. We noticed when visiting them that many Italians wear their masks outside too. Perhaps that's why they have a lower rate of infection. I have had an issue with my breathing over the past year but I can still manage to wear a mask and will continue to do so with the number of cases being reported at the moment.

Venny Fri 22-Oct-21 11:32:51

I'm in aberdeen Scotland and everyone except those who are exempt still wear masks
