News channels reporting with the increase of covid infections saying we should be all returning to face mask wearing...how do GNs feel if/when it becomes compulsory again?

I don't like wearing a mask and have some doubt about how useful they are. But I am prepared to wear one when asked to do so, eg in supermarkets, churches, buses - and I imagine theatres. I've not been to the theatre for at least 2 years but I don't fancy the idea of sittting in a crowd of people with their faces muffled up and not even being able to blow my nose or rub my chin.
When I'm walking or cycling on my own it's great to be able to breathe freely.

Well we have worn them throughout and will continue to wear them as and when requested, a bit like shoes off in someone’s house if requested. However I restarted choir last week ( obviously with no masks) and on Wednesday we both tested positive for covid.
So annoyed that we have avoided it for nearly 2 years!

What a hard decision! Do I take advice from esteemed scientists with years of experience and dedication or Two Wolves off of the Internet? Bit of a no brainer!

Yes I still wear a mask

Yes, still wearing it, and gloves.

Absolutely right Grandma. Common cold devastated indigenous Australians when Cook arrived!

I wear a mask only when I have to - when accompanying DH to his numerous medical appointments and on the very rare occasions when I take the bus. Isn't it important to be exposed to everyday germs to boost immunity to, say, colds and flu?

Fear seems to be the main drive to get everyone to wear masks. We have to live our lives without constant worry. And I know I will get stick for this, but everyone will die sooner or later let's enjoy life while we can, also with the world groaning under the weight of humanity perhaps sooner would be a good thing.

I still wear one but seem to be in a minority round here.

I had my hair cut six weeks ago. My hairdresser didn’t wear a mask and neither did I. Today, we were back to wearing masks. My hairdresser and I wondered why, with cases and deaths increasing, and the NHS asking for this, why the government hasn’t brought back mandatory mask wearing. There’s definitely a parallel between the Tories here and the Republicans in America. A weird sort of reasoning that wearing a mask somehow takes away our liberty.

We wear masks in indoor and public places and don't go into others houses or have visitors who are not immediate family who have done lateral flow tests - basically just our son. Wish our government woul pull out their fingers and start keeping us safer. Mask wearing can't come soon enough. Heading for collapse of NHS if we're not more careful. Healthcare workers, GPs etc under enormous strain. Not fair, not safe, just reckless.

Nicegranny Fri 22-Oct-21 16:21:48

Absolutely yes !

Skydancer Fri 22-Oct-21 16:20:47

Definitely. After watching the animations showing how droplets can spread, it's obvious that wearing a mask stops most of that. Not only do we protect ourselves from Covid but from flu and the common cold. It's not much of an inconvenience as far as I'm concerned. As someone who used to travel frequently on public transport, I was always getting coughs and cold from people on the trains and buses. It was awful. So anything that can help is great.

Totally agree

vegansrock

I hope those who believe they don’t work would be happy for a surgeon to operate on her without a mask, surgical gowns or washing his/ her hands.

Exactly that vegansrock!

Yes, of course.

LisaAN Fri 22-Oct-21 16:08:18

Yes. Whenever I go to the shops or other crowded indoor settings. I tend to wear FFP3 masks because so many other shoppers aren’t bothered now. I have observed people coughing and sneezing without using a tissue or into their elbow. Yuk

Pinkhousegirl Fri 22-Oct-21 15:50:39

I think the thing is TwoWolves, you don't wear them to protect yourself, you wear them to protect others. A very unfashionable concept I know. Also, again, very unfashionable, the science indicates they do work, but only if we all wear them. Obvs.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 22-Oct-21 15:44:52

Two Wolves, epidemiologists try to compare like with like. I think it is a stretch to extrapolate from Norway, which is a large country with a very small population ( that of Inner London) and very few cities, anything we could apply to Britain.

Arto1s Fri 22-Oct-21 15:35:43

I totally agree with TwoWolves

Madashell Fri 22-Oct-21 15:34:59

Never stopped wearing a mask in shops and other enclosed spaces, and hand sanitising/washing wherever necessary. I cannot afford to be ill right now from Covid or even a cold or flu. Some masks work better than others. Being uncomfortable when in close contact with strangers I really miss social distancing ( by others). Ahh the heady days of everyone in a mask 2 Alsatians apart (thanks to Janey Godley) and no need to smile when out, with our wild uncut, undyed hair in our tracky bottoms… I do seem to have been (unconsciously) hoarding toilet rolls - got enough for at least 6 months. Take care everyone.

Jjebe Fri 22-Oct-21 15:32:00

That’s because we are all protecting you

GrauntyHelen Fri 22-Oct-21 15:31:24

Thankfully I am in Scotland where mask wearing is mandatory Too many selfish self centered folk around for it to be voluntary
