Criminally Negligent: What Jacob Rees Mogg Said! ?

I am speechless.

Can someone please link to what shite he came out with today.

According to him the Tories don’t need to wear masks because ‘they all know each other’, and they are ‘fraternal and convivial’.

My extremely vulnerable DH is almost having a breakdown (no exaggeration) because of how things are panning out.

We can’t access the health services that we desperately need because we need to isolate due to the government’s idiocy.

There are hundreds of thousands of people in similar circumstances.

Percentage of people fully vaccinated

In Italy: 70%

In UK: 67%

Depends on your definition of "well ahead" I suppose. And just because I can't help myself... Scotland, 71%

Italy also has strict rules about vaccinations and showing your certificate to work, get into restaurants etc, which has meant their vaccination rate is well ahead of ours which has stalled. But hey that’s not the British way is it? We’d rather people had the freedom to get infected.

Agree. And clearly we’d rather have supercilious MPs making sneery irresponsible speeches too!

Australia also has same strict rules.

That does look quite nice Riverwalk. I hope that it’s got lots of cheese in it.
Actually, I think I might have had a macaroni pie in the past ?

I see that utocorrect turns ‘chippie’ into ‘chip pie’; which is quite a prospect

How about a spaghetti pie?

FannyCornforth Sat 23-Oct-21 06:06:22

Eurgh. Yes, Callistemon.
There’s the soft little kidney shaped things (soft roe, I think it’s called) that you can have on toast; the utterly repulsive hard roe (that you can get from the chippie round the corner from where my aunty used to live, but lord knows why you would, I once bought it my accident ) and it comes as a lump and has purple bits and veins in it shock; and the utterly scrumptious pressed roe, food of the gods when battered.
I will be having three for my tea tonight.

Some of it was grainy and some was soft ......

JaneJudge Fri 22-Oct-21 20:02:48

Just vacuumed upstairs, I'll go and clean the bathroom.

Only takeaways here, though. Masks to be worn in the chippie.

FannyCornforth Fri 22-Oct-21 15:45:35

Get making up that spare bed!

Just been to the baker's then to the supermarket- everyone disinfected hands, everyone was wearing a mask- no exception and no argument with staff or other users. It is the Law, it is how it is, it is accepted for the better good- end of! I am going to the next country this afternoon, and it will be just the same. Easy peasy- end of. Simple enough.

Sounds wonderful Kali2. Thank you for sharing. ???

Ok so I’d like to just ask Urmstongran and Lemongrove one thing. Did you think Rees Mogg’s “speech” about masks and the Labour Party and “being convivial and friendly” was a sensible and appropriate use of parliamentary time ?

Yes on this occasion he was responding to a comment opposite him from Labour. I forget his name Lucca. He’d counted mask wearers opposite -who were in closer proximity to one another - rather than across the divide. I could look up his name I suppose. I’ll finish my cuppa first!

You thought his joking appropriate? You thought him saying no need for masks as the whole party was made up of good friends was sensible ?

*Algerias*. Your posts are routinely designed to be oh so clever and witty but often, as in this case, fall flat.

You couldn’t bear to acknowledge that Mrs Pickles’ post regarding Tories was pretty dire so attempted to deflect by suggesting Lemon’s post needed reporting and asked and answered your own question. Psychic as well! As you believed the post needed reporting but KNEW nobody was affronted enough to do so, I helpfully suggested you report it yourself. I assume you have a report option like everyone else. I didn’t report Mrs P’s post but others did. As GNHQ aren’t around 24/7 they quite possibly haven’t looked at it yet.

No I know this will annoy you but I’m about to join my cycling club for a 45 miles bike ride. Please don’t assume any lack of response in the intervening hours is because I’m lost for words if you post in reply.

No, I thought Mrs Pickeles post was tasteless and ought to have been deleted. But there was no room on the bandwagon for me to jump on, so as it had already been covered I didn't add to the chorus of disapproval.

So the post has quite rightly been deleted, I think you might have missed that, but in the headlong rush of condemnation from so many people, many quoted it which means that it is still in circulation.

Social Media 101, today's lesson.

tickingbird Fri 22-Oct-21 09:21:18

On a slightly different topic; to many of those who were so offended by Mrs Pickles comment; if you quoted it, it hasn't been deleted. I guess it's not the comment you object to, its Mrs Pickle

Alegrias. Wrong again.

Alegrias1 I have reported my own post which quotes the deleted post.

I was surprised it wasn’t deleted at the same time, in anticipation of the deletion is why I posted immediately saying what I felt about MrsPickles post.

I wonder if you could let us know how many weeks of refraining from posting 'insensitive' comments will be sufficient to satisfy your grieving?

Perhaps we should establish the rules, like Victorian widows...

It is one week today since Sir David Amess was brutally murdered MaizieD.

I think your post shows far more about you than any posters who feel that respecting a very recently murdered MP is the correct and proper way to act?

I will just leave it there…

Lemongrove its interesting to see that although "other countries are feeling their way" they are still managing to have much , much lower rates of Covid than we have.We are next to the top of the world list with more than 52,000 new infections compared with 6,000 in
France and 2,500 in Spain.Italy has a strict rule about mask wearing and that is helping there.
There is an interesting letter in the Times today from a consultant oncologist in which he says " I cannot agree with Sajid Javid that the NHS is coping. There are many vaccinated NHS staff off work because of contracting Covid or because their contacts have. I support the BMA's stance that we must must move to plan B immediately. Since our government will not listen to scientists and doctors , perhaps if other countries followed Morocco the UK might reflect and introduce measures to reduce the rise of cases."
Comments like those made by Rees-Mogg do not help .

Urmstongran Fri 22-Oct-21 09:17:57

You are quite right Fanny. Too early in a morning for me on N&P threads! I’m off to the GM thread now for a while. Back later.
