Elbow bumping - good or bad?

Am I alone in thinking that elbow bumping is not good, because it brings the heads of the two people doing it far closer together than i would have thought was wise.

Wouldn't fist-bumping make more sense, that's if people really feel that they need to touch at all, which is debatable ... ?

MissAdventure

I just raise my eyebrows to people I know.
Sometimes mumble "alright"?

Me too! Or y'ok? I am naturally reserved though. Non hugging suits me fine.

Anything Boris does is a total nono. If I should ever be unfortunate to meet him I would turn my back. I have no respect for him whatsoever

Fists, elbows - all make me cringe. Not necessary at all. Until I can hug people again it will just be hello.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 10-Nov-21 20:27:08

It’s stupid, there he is heads nearly touching, no mask on and elbow bumping. All done for show. Might elbow him in the stomach if we met.

The very fact that the unmasked idiot Johnson keeps doing this silly elbow bump means no. Its a no-no.

Baggs

Perhaps we should go back to bowing and curtseying.

I like this idea! ?

I never missed hugging as I am not a tactile person, so I just say hello. If you are vaccinated and you are a touchy-feely person what's wrong with hugging them.

The elbow bump I brought back from Kenya…..where they were way ahead on PPE and infection control at the airport’s at the beginning of COVID in fact as grateful as we were to get home we were shocked at the difference.

Alioop

No hugs, fists, elbows, feet kicking, etc for me. I just say hello and will continue to do so.

Not just me then.

theworriedwell Wed 10-Nov-21 16:35:25

I just say hello, don't know why people need to touch each other.

Alioop Wed 10-Nov-21 16:32:41

Is there any benefit in fist bumping over shaking hands?? I use my elbow for pressing elevator buttons etc so don’t feel comfortable using them to touch someone.

MissAdventure Wed 10-Nov-21 15:51:00

I won't be taking up any fad.
A hello will do me.

Shelagh6 Wed 10-Nov-21 15:47:34

I think the Indian saluté of two hands together is the best solution in this country from now on - am delighted there are no more cheek kisses planted when not really wanted!

icanhandthemback I know a young man who has Down Syndrome and he likes to elbow bump or sometimes for variety a foot tap. Like you I'm happy to oblige and see the smile on his face.

icanhandthemback Wed 10-Nov-21 15:25:21

At the club I go to there is a man with Downs Syndrome and he loves to elbow bump. Who am I to judge him on whether it is ridiculous or not? If it makes people happy to do so, I don't mind at all.

FarNorth Wed 10-Nov-21 15:12:34

A handshake is a well-mannered gesture.
An elbow bump certainly isn't.

It seems on a par with 'wacky' selfies showing people at ridiculous angles.

ElaineI Wed 10-Nov-21 15:03:50

Really laughable and stupid! Boris looks a twat! No point in it!

Happysexagenarian Wed 10-Nov-21 15:02:56

Elbow bumping looks awkward and rather affected. I usually greet people with 'Hello or Hi'. But I do like the idea of the namaste gesture, simple, elegant and distanced. I hope Asian people won't mind us adopting it.

MissAdventure Wed 10-Nov-21 14:02:19

Isn't it an example of cultural appropriation, and frowned on by some?
I do love Frankie Boyle, though.

polnan Wed 10-Nov-21 13:56:46

I like the namaste also... much more to my taste, but I think
we westerners or whatever you want to call us, have difficulty with that.

Alegrias1 Wed 10-Nov-21 13:55:12

Namaste, sometimes spoken as namaskar and namaskaram, is a Hindu customary, non-contact form of respectfully greeting and honoring the opposite person or group, used at any time of day.

Yes, how embarrassing... hmm

Amalegra Wed 10-Nov-21 13:50:14

Elbow bumping: looks silly, awkward and self conscious! If anyone tried it with me I would refuse. Nod. Wave. Make silly faces! Anything but that! Almost as bad as the equally embarrassing ‘namaste’! Why not just say hello and smile!
