Why would someone uproot their whole family for 12 months and move to a country that has made them feel unwelcome in the past? They’ll have to be paid a lot more than they were before as an incentive. Will we be welcoming seasonal crop pickers next summer as well given that us oldies decided we didn’t want to do the work?

Us oldies did. do the work love, back in the day. Did you.

True. And in all likelihood, by the time the visa is through, the crisis will have passed.

Very unlikely to be cleared. The crisis in care worker shortage has been exacerbated by Brexit and Covid but has been growing for years and years, whilst ignored by successive governments of various political persuasions ...sadly!

Ah Brexit! (Sarcasm intended)

I hope they will not use them and discard them later

Care work is not something that can, or should, be done by just anyone.
Presumably the government do realise that or they'd be trying to shove all the jobseekers into it.

In my area, most care workers are employed by the local authority and it is advertising for people in the area who have any previous experience to help them.

Blow me, I’ve just realised it was Owen Paterson that suggested that!!!

We had a crisis pre Covid and pre Brexit. There certainly don't seem to be many ^They're stealing our jobs" Brexiters rushing to fill the gaps so hopefully we will get some of the overseas workers back.

There'll be so much red tape for employers when applying for visas to bring in staff, plus the cost of flying in people from across the world.

Backpedaling on Brexit. Common sense prevails.

Foreign care workers will find it easier to move to the UK after the Government eased immigration rules amid staff shortages across the UK care sector.

Care workers will be added to the shortage occupation list, the Department of Health and Social Care has announced.

The health and care visa eligibility will be widened to include care workers, care assistants and home care workers for a 12-month period.

Those who successfully apply will be able to bring their children and partners with them when they move to the UK, according to a statement released by the department.
