I’ve been in contact with a positive case twice in last six months. Thankfully I’ve been negative both times. I have isolated for 10 days each time regardless of rules. Why can’t everyone do the same?

It would also be relatively easy for me to isolate for 10 days I can work via a computer link many people cannot.
Can you imagine the chaos to services if we still all isolated for 10 days just because we had been in contact
Vacination and testing has removed the need for this. I was in contact with a positive case I tested every day for 7 days I did not catch Covid

My son tested positive yesterday, submitted the test results and initially was told to isolate for 11 days.
Today this is what he's been told by Test and Trace:

"I can stop isolating after 7 days if I can provide 2 negative lateral flow tests taken 24 hours apart."

GagaJo, no, nobody checks, it's just down to trusting people to do the right thing (so pretty hopeless, really). There just aren't enough people to do checking!

I have friends who tested postive on Day 1. By Day 7, they were 'out' of isolation. Do track and trace not check anymore?

I have to agree. Timings vary so much and are changed so often. Our 4 nations all have differing rules too. I suppose all you can hope for is that there is scientific reasoning behind reducing the isolation period and people stick to those rules.

Varying time frames for isolation for those who have tested positive for covid. Between 14 days (Germany) to 5 (USA). This, despite knowing some people will be infectious for 12 days.

I must admit, when I was present for an outbreak in my place of employment, I wasn't happy being asked to work 121 with people on their 11th day after a positive covid test.
