Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

That’s a bu**er.

He has celiac disease. But I don’t see how that can excuse him from having the vaccine.

Ah, that might well make a difference.
In fact, some Australian consultants have advised coeliacs not to have the vaccine.

Nor with me. I’m no medic but it seems strange in a man as fit as he is, no apparent medical conditions.

I asked DH what he thought about this he said he could be a person who has an unnatural fear of needles, or has had an anopholactic shoke with another vaccine.
I think he is just finding excuses and knows his medical records are private to the public. Another publicity stunt perhaps and a loss of a lot of money if he is not allowed to play.
With Oz relations who had to watch their fathers funeral on zoom I have no sympathy at all. Rules apply to all .

Australia have accepted that Opticron is going to rip through the continent. They have no immunity from previous infections and are entirely reliant on people being vaccinated to protect themselves. Therefore their PM, who has over ruled his scientists can’t possibly just allow unvaccinated people into the country.

His parents must have known this would happen, hence they called him Novak……….!!”

Brilliant ?

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Jan-22 15:35:08

Maw very good ?!

I totally agree with the tone of this thread - may I introduce a brief note of levity, courtesy of a friend who said this earlier:-

Ahem!

Oh, I'm a bit slow today Ashcombe, I had to repeat that twice before I got it!!

And Rafa and Roger thankfully don’t share the same daft views on vaccines as Djokovic.
It’s a shame Roger isn’t playing there this year and I believe there’s a question mark over Rafa’s appearance unless I’m behind with the news.

Andy Murray will be there though!

I also like Australia's tough approach to entry to their country. I wish we had a bit more of that in the UK. If Novak is allowed to play he will be booed in all his matches I'm sure. Thank goodness we have Rafa and Roger Federer as they are such a credit to the world of tennis.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 06-Jan-22 13:20:43

This man shouldn't be exempt just because he's rich and famous.

JenniferEccles Thu 06-Jan-22 12:33:45

I do like Australia’s no -nonsense, tough approach to lots of situations regarding entry to their country.
People either follow the correct procedure or they are out.

nanna8 Thu 06-Jan-22 12:33:04

Many Serbs were demonstrating outside his iso hotel and saying it was illegal to not let him play. How dreadful for the poor little man that he is housed amongst illegal entrants because he doesn’t have a visa. My heart bleeds.

Spice101 Thu 06-Jan-22 11:22:06

The Judge did ask if there were tennis facilities at the hotel!!

So according to the news, Australia have said, go back Djokovic! Well done them!

Not quite. He is currently being held in a hotel pending his court appeal which is not being held until at least Monday from all accounts.

There's been constant comings and goings on flights non-stop for the past 2 years. What difference is it going to make ?
There has never been an all out lock-down of any country.

Which is why we've got bugs flying around 365 days of the year ! Why this concern 2 years on ?

It’s just been said on Jeremy Vine that Djokovic was using the excuse that he has had Covid and so has antibodies. I’m not claiming this true, but it has been mooted.
I’ve had Covid, but I’ve still had all three of my vaccinations and I’m careful when I’m out and about.

I believe this is correct, however the Australian Federal Government sent a letter to Tennis Australia some time ago advising that this was not a reason for exemption. Apparently it is in Europe.

I stand to be corrected on this as I am not able to find the article I read, however, I understand that he could have come here unvaccinated IF he was prepared to meet the 14 day quarantine requirements.

I think the whole issue is that ND was so vocal about not declaring his status. The power was in his hands to be upfront and declare his vaccination status. We assume, but do not know, that he is not vaccinated because he will not tell anyone.

ND is not the only player that was given this exemption and I would not like to think that he is being made an example of because of who he is. Would be interesting to know who the other players are and how their medical condition differs from Novac's.

silverlining48 Thu 06-Jan-22 11:03:19

After two jabs my dh was tested for antibodies and to our surprise he had none but after the booster he had them .
He picked up COVID at Christmas and has been feeling pretty unwell. so imagine it would be worse had he not been vaccinated.
This individual appears to be arrogant enough to think he can avoid laws that others have to follow. I have no sympathy.
Just heard a decision will be made on Monday while he stays in an isolation hotel.

Pepper59 Thu 06-Jan-22 11:00:27

Totally agree Whitewave, he should be following the rules like the Australians have to do.

Sparklefizz Thu 06-Jan-22 10:59:08

I have just read online that the Australian Govt warned Novak a month ago that he didn't qualify for exemption..... but he turned up anyway. Grrr. Can't stand him and his arrogance.

maddyone Thu 06-Jan-22 10:57:50

Medical exemption? For probably one of the fittest men on the planet. Doesn’t make sense. I’m also fed up of exemptions being given for celebrities, sportsmen/women and wealthy people.

Me too Gwyneth.

Well done, Australia's Prime Minister - not something I say very often.

I suspect the tennis organisers were so keen to get him there that they would have accepted certificates from Dr. Dolittle and Dr. Seuss.
