Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

My suspicion is that Australia won’t deport him. I think they’ve left it too long. He’d have already gone if they were going to deport him. I hope I’m wrong.

Smileless2012 Thu 13-Jan-22 10:54:31

Why don't they just get on with itangry? They can't possibly allow him to stay, he's lied about having tested positive on December 16th or he attended an awards ceremony on the 17th knowing he had it.

It now looks as if he broke the rules for entering Spain in September. He has no regard for anyone other than himself.

I agree maddy and they'll go down in the world's opinion if they don't not to mention their own citizens, some who've had severe restrictions for prolonged periods of time.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 13-Jan-22 10:35:21

I wish they would hurry up and do it and I hope he gets trouble from Spain too.

maddyone Thu 13-Jan-22 10:28:06

I think Australia will go up in the world’s opinion if only they have the guts to deport him.

Luckygirl3 Thu 13-Jan-22 09:41:32

I feel most angry about him, as a high profile figure, spouting his anti-vax nonsense which he knows is likely to influence others and put their lives at risk. By all means make this decision not to have the vaccination, but keep your gob shut.

Thanks Lucca.

It now appears as though the Spanish authorities are looking into whether he entered Spain illegally as since September 20, citizens from Serbia need a vaccine certificate OR a special exemption to enter Spanish territory but so far the authorities say they did not receive any request from Djokovic.

Word here is that he will be deported today. I'm not so sure. I think Australia will be dammed if we do and dammed if we don't. Monumental stuff ups by various people/authorities have made a complete shambles of the matter. If he is deported he will not be allowed back to Australia for up to 3 years. I see a legal fight coming on regarding loss of income from ND against the Australian Government.

Maybe he will now realise that his decision not to be vaccinated, which he is entitled to, does have consequences - even for him.

Lucca, thanks for the clip!

MayBeMaw Wed 12-Jan-22 22:10:23

Oops! Echoing what many people are thinking though!

Their mikes were off, just somebody filming them.

I posted a link to that up thread

NanKate Wed 12-Jan-22 21:55:22

Did any of you see the Oz Newscaster who thought her microphone was turned off say to her Co presenter ‘ND is a lying ar**hole’? Well I thought it was very funny and I agreed with her.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 12-Jan-22 13:57:06

So would I. Now blaming his admin staff for making an error about the trip to Spain on the visa application (which I assume he signed) and it seems his declaration under oath contains a lie about the date of the alleged positive test. Despicable.

maddyone Wed 12-Jan-22 13:49:15

IMO he’s an embarrassment to the game and to his country and if he were my son, I’d be ashamed of him.

Me too.

Smileless2012 Wed 12-Jan-22 11:35:24

His mother is right, he's a tennis player, a very gifted tennis player who isn't above the law, even though he seems to think that he is.

IMO he's an embarrassment to the game and to his country and if he were my son, I'd be ashamed of him.

MayBee70 Wed 12-Jan-22 11:18:45

His mother says ‘ he isn’t a politician, he’s a tennis player’. But he uses his fame to spout his anti vacc nonsense. This, from someone who lives in a country that already has vaccine hesitancy. Perhaps if he didn’t have this maverick attitude towards the virus the Australian government would give him the benefit of the doubt regarding the irregularities in his so called exemption. Australia is depending on vaccine uptake to protect its inhabitants from the virus.

Has anyone else seen his fathers letter to the press, saying he(novak) was being held hostage and that he's the Spartacus of the new world amongst a load of other nonsense ,this wont gain him any respect from all the players who DO follow the rules or many other folk either

Chewbacca Tue 11-Jan-22 23:21:27

He's a cocky, arrogant, big headed little s**t and I fervently hope that he'll either be deported from Australia or, if he's allowed to compete, that he loses his game. He's no sportsman and doesn't deserve to win. Ever.

I think ND is arrogant and not a sportsman . Thank heavens we have Rafa Nadal and Federer when he returns, who are tennis players for youngsters to look up to.

maddyone Tue 11-Jan-22 18:42:07

He’s actually a terrible role model for youngsters. He thinks rules don’t apply to him, and he lies to get what he wants. A good sportsman, I don’t know so!

Smileless2012 Tue 11-Jan-22 18:01:30

Thanks Lucca.

It's a big no from me too Aveline. He's a liar and has nothing to commend him when it comes to being a positive ambassador for the game.

Aveline Tue 11-Jan-22 13:43:10

Oh yes. It's a big no to him from me! What a nerve. What a bad example.
