Has Johnson failed/is failing to protect England?

Mark Drakeford has accused Johnson this week of avoiding taking additional action to protect the population from Covid. Wales has more restrictions and as far as I can make out, fewer infections per 100,000. The state of he country would seem to indicate that he has a point. Death rates have been lower than with Delta, but there's a huge wave of disease sweeping the country. NHS and social care are on their knees with no sign of a let up, military staff are working in London hospitals. I wonder why more people are not calling the government out on their lack of actions? When did this become OK?

No point putting country into lockdown, no one wants that unless you’re working from home or a pensioner like me.we would just see people lose their livelihoods and youngsters stressed out when these should be their carefree years. Pubs and hospitality can’t take any more.If everyone got vaccinated the hospitals wouldn’t be burdened like they are.
I think Boris has it right.

I don’t think anyone is talking about a complete lockdown. But it seems strange being happy to keep nightclubs open and then having to bring in the army because the NHS is struggling to cope.

THERE IS NO BORDER

There is no Welsh/English border either so having different rules is counter-productive.

I don't feel that the government have taken enough action. Our awful infection rate and now 150,000 people have died with Covid on the death certificates. I believe that makes us one of only 7 countries in the world to have hit this figure. With our expertise and the resources available we should not find ourselves in this position. I suggest that if any MP or their families become ill they should be forced to take their chance with 111 or `119 like their constituents.
