Is now the right time to lift Covid restrictions?

The Tories had to do something to deflect from the mess they are in and by lifting restrictions they are hoping people will forget about their hypocrisy.

I also would like to know what the scientists and medics think about this.

I really don't think Johnson has the country's welfare at heart. He is fighting to keep his job.

Probably more to reach out to younger voters than us

I don't believe they are lifting them for the PM to gain popularity as, seemingly (certainly on here), most people would prefer to keep them. I think it's down to common sense.

This is the second thread on this subject.

I’m inclined to agree. It would be nice to see the scientific advice behind this wholesale abandonment of restrictions. It’s a big gamble IMO.

I can’t help thinking that BJ and his Tory cronies are lifting Covid restrictions to deflect the flack away from party-gate with no consideration for the health of the nation. It might give a boost to the economy but this will be short lived if the long term effect is an increase in hospitalisation and deaths from Covid. A gradual lifting of restrictions while keeping an eye on rates of infection would be far more sensible but wouldn’t be such a distraction from the lies and rule breaking that has been going on in No. 10. It’s a case of trying to bury bad news; bad news for Boris.
