Can’t believe we’re starting another thread.
Although many of us have been chatting since the start of lockdown, we’ve been lucky to welcome others who have joined in more recently.
Anyone who wants to pop in for a chat is welcome.
Thank you so much, Doodle. I do appreciate your getting back to me.
Kaimoana lovely photos of you and Boadicea.
Did you have a good time. Please tell us all about it. Are you home now?
Mamissimo oh what a disappointment. You must be seething. All that effort. You couldn’t make it us could you.
You must have made a sterling effort not to whack them one.
I hope tomorrow you and MrM have a peaceful and relaxing day and indulge in all the leftovers. Anything else you can put in the kitchen and Jeeves will dish it up tomorrow for anyone who drops in.
I have ordered several legs of lamb for the freezer so we’re ready for your next family visit.?
Bellanonna we have on occasions heard from Panache but not for a while. I think after she lost her dear husband she didn’t feel able to keep up with posting although she does drop in from time to time.
I’m sure if you were to PM her she would love to hear from you. I think she has friends where she lives but her eyesight is a big problem. We miss her too. If I hear more I will let you know.
Thank you for your kind words. Drop in whenever you feel like it.
Hello, Lockdown Gang. I don’t contribute to your thread but did read it a long while ago when Panache used to post. I’m just wondering whether anybody hears from her and how she’s getting on now that she’s on her own. It’s always a bit worrying when someone just “disappears” , but perhaps she said she was taking a break. She doesn’t visit Soop’s Kitchen either so I was just wondering……. Thanks for reading! And long may your lovely lockdown thread last.
Good morning ?
And it's a humph from me! My feathers are ruffled and I'm struggling to be polite to my AC and their associates. Here with a bit of a rant....
I was asked to host family jubilee event as everyone was in the area yesterday. Spent 2 days cooking and sorting and Mr M says a zillion pounds and even made a holiday detour to buy favourite cheese of on DSiL.
Family 1 arrives an hour late and DSiL 1 tells me that he won't be eating as he's too hung over from night before and if I dont mind he'll nap in the study.....and by the way his daughter is grumpy because they had to wake her up to bring her.....
Family 2 arrives a quarter of an hour even later and DSiL tells me that he's not feeling good and is covered in midge bites (they're camping) and he's rather overdone it on antihistamines so needs a nap.
Both DDs sulking because of husbands excesses.
DGDs whinging because Daddy's asleep and they're not.....
DS still not arrived so I ring him......ooh I forgot!
You would have been either proud of me or aghast that I didn't chop their heads off! I smiled sweetly, served four courses, then scraped most of it into the food waste. Mr M barbecued his socks off......they all left early and we waved and did all the clearing up.
Anyone got any legs of lamb.....many legs of ?
Oh my goodnessNfk you poor things, you must both have been terribly worried. So good that it all turned out well. Lovely to see you posting again.
Cherry How wonderful that you managed to pop in dear girl. Makes everything extra special
Grammaretto I agree with Doodle you always post the most beautiful photos. Thank you.
How did the Memorial go?
Doodle I hope Jeeves did all the washing up after the party.
As New Zealand is a little ahead of time, BJ and I had a Jubilee breakfast.
Evening all. Been out for lunch with DS1 today. Had a nice time and enjoyed the sunshine. No dinner tonight. Lunch was so filling.
Nfk glad you enjoyed the fireworks. Yes I always worry for the animals and wildlife. They must wonder what is happening. Ooh I wonder where the Queen has gone?
Mamissimo that trifle is amazing. How lovely.
Hope you have a great time with all your family.
Grammaretto make mine a double please. ?
Hope the memorial service goes well. Sounds as though it will be an interesting one.
Hope all goes well with the cafe.
Have a good weekend all.
Thanks so much for the trifle Mamissimo As you know I can't offer much so I'll do drinks.
I'm on duty tomorrow at the community café. I'll bet we'll be busy.
Tonight is the memorial gathering for df postponed due to covid.
I hope it's a jolly affair. His gt grandpa went down on the Titanic and is a famous Canadian.
Various important artifacts have now been sent back to Canada to be displayed in a museum there according to his final wishes.
I'll pop in tomorrow to find out how you have fared today
Hi Cherry.
Morning All
Its a lovely sunny morning here in the north of Norfolk and apart from very exuberant noisy bird song, all is very quiet. Its as if the local song birds are gossiping about the rookery being disturbed last night by the fireworks and the local rec. nearby. It was a really good show which I watched from the back step, but the sky was filled with panicking rooks and jackdaws heading away. I hope they found somewhere safe for the night and their babies are ok. And someone has stolen the Queen from the town square. I hope she comes back in time for the street party on Sunday!
Could you please send a couple of Jubilee Puddings this way Doodle*? We're waiting in today for the nurse to dress DH's oozy legs and I forgot to put lemons on the Tesco order. Although I could improvise, I do have a lemon jelly and there's some lemons in syrup at the back of the fridge - I'll check the sell by date.
Grammaretto so pleased you’ve had a good time.
You always share such lovely photos with us.
The one with the water looks so tranquil.
It’s been anything but tranquil on our river today. Lots of people out having fun and boats adorned with bunting.
Still a lot of food left we will have to keep eating all over the bank holiday weekend.?
Was amazing.
Hello Jan are you enjoying the Jubilee celebrations?
Yes I thought the Queen really enjoyed the fly past. They flew overhead here too but I wasn’t quick enough to take a photo. The noise what’s amazing.
Yummy yum yum ?
Every one is joining in
The picnic was very lovely just like a royal garden party only better.
A walk in the border hills today.
So nice to see NfkD but sorry you've had such a tough time with DH.
Cheery too! So good to see you.
Nfk Thats really odd as I was thinking of you and your DH only this morning. So pleased he has had his op and hopefully it’s upwards and onwards from now on. Yes my DH has been in Papworth. It’s enormous isn’t it - just like a small town. So different from the old one!
CherryCezzy Lovely to hear from you. Can’t wait to try the Welsh cakes. Hope you pop in again soon.
BoudiceaJones and Kaimoana. Gosh bet you’ve had a noisy time! Sounds amazing. Hope you both have a wonderful few days.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the Jubilee weekend. I thought the Queen looked really well and happy on the Balcony today.
Jeeves and I have hab a wubery dai washing the TV and imbibing ov a Pimms or two hic. ?
There’s plenty of pud left. Pasties were great.,little nap in the sunshine I think.
Cherry having you with us, even for a short time, makes the celebrations so much better. We think of you often and miss you. Hope all is well with you and yours. Big cwtch x
I saw Jeeves' bunting as I was lurking outside so I've handed him a batch of Welsh cakes for Lobstar Gang to enjoy (well I hope you do) at your Jubilee party ?.
Wishing you all the best, I do think of you all often x
Joining in the celebrations
Well Jeeves has the Jubilee bunting up and the flags out.
The table is set with Jubilee punch and tasty bits so whenever you feel like popping in Jeeves and I will be here to celebrate with you (unless we’re snoozing in the sunshine)
Hope everyone has a good day.
Nfk lovely to hear from you again.
What a lot you’ve been through. You must be exhausted. Glad to hear your DH is home and safe. What a worry for you.
Shame about your new car but with so much on your mind it’s not surprising you had a bump. Hope it’s fixed soon.
Well done to the Apple Watch for alerting your DH to a problem. So glad it was dealt with promptly..
My DH took a while to get going again after his by pass and he didn’t have as much done as your DH so not surprising he’s not up for a marathon yet.
You both need to rest and take it easy for a while. Glad everyone is rallying round.
Take care
Morning All
I'm taking advantage of DH still being 'comfortably' tucked up in bed catching up on sleep. The last few weeks have been a bit of a challenge. Well, all of May really. I can’t remember when I last posted or how much, but, briefly, at the start of May DH went to the Norfolk and Norwich (NNUH) hospital for an investigative angiography (I think that’s what it’s called) with possibly a stent necessary while they were there. I had a nasty feeling things were worse than that, and I think he was too as we were both very nervous about it all. I dropped him off at the hospital door, as one does nowadays, and drove home in our ‘new to us’ 4x4 automatic hybrid. Somehow with my preoccupation, and also glancing down to make sure the switch brake was off, the car shot forward into the car in front. I still don’t know how I did it, but of course there are sensors in the bumper and there’s a world shortage so it’s a courtesy car for me for the foreseeable future.
DH can’t drive anyway for a long while - I got a call from him that afternoon to say he was staying in as they thought a triple by-pass was on the cards with an aortic repair and possibly a new heart valve! He had a two week wait sitting in hospital here waiting for a place at Royal Papworth Hospital. All the pre-op tests were done at the NNUH and he was taken to Papworth in Cambridge two weeks ago, operated on the next day, had a weeks recovery there and then discharged. From Papworth. Two hours drive away at least. Luckily our son had just got his new, lovely comfortable car, but it still meant seven people co-ordinating and a lot of nagging to get a reasonable discharge time without hours of hanging around to bring him back. Papworth though is a wonderful hospital. All spanky new and modern in the middle of a large new science and medical campus. Even the food is good!
Anyway, one day at home sitting in the sun - and his heart rate suddenly went up much to high and stopped there. (Luckily, he has an iWatch and it alerted him.) The Community Nurse called round and confirmed - so, paramedics, a four hour plus wait in an ambulance, overnight on a trolley bed in A&E before there was a bed on a ward for him. Four days later and its all under control again with more medication and he’s home again. And frustrated that he can’t do more. It wasn’t helped when someone from Papworth rang yesterday to see how he’s getting on and said he should be aiming at a two mile walk by now!! He can just manage a couple of turns around the garden with an elbow crutch for balance. I don’t think they take his lack of exercise for the last five weeks into account. At least I hope not.
So, sorry, I’ve not been around. I’ve not really been feeling sociable. I’ve spent a lot of time annoying soil in the garden and we’ve both been amazed by the support of friends and the family. They come, bring cake,/fruit/cards, give a gentle hug and depart or ring and text for updates. I’m beginning to think they’ve made a rota!
The sun is shining, the birds are singing and we’re both still here. And I’m about to try to change his weepy leg dressing from where they ‘harvested’ the veins needed. The community team are on Sunday rota for the next four days so we don’t want to bother them if we can help it.
Well what a funny night. Just got to bed and DH said I think my tooth’s falling out. Indeed he had a very wobbly tooth so had to spend the night sitting up in case it fell out and he swallowed it. Due to his medication he’s a bit wobbly normally so without a good nights sleep he’s even more so. Quick dash to church this morning then back to take him to the dentist.
Tooth met it’s end with a pair of pliers.?. Went into our favourite cake shop to buy four cakes for our Jubilee celebration. Got home and opened the box to find only 2 ?. Fortunately they were DHs favorites in the box and mine were missing.
Nice walk in town though and sit on the balcony in the sunshine tonight.
In the dentist, I read on their TV that Bradford has been awarded city of culture status. Wow. Must be due to Kaimoana.
Those pasties look delicious by the way. Hope the trip goes well and you all have a lovely meet up.
Oh Grammaretto I see you beat me to it in the news of Bradford ?. Bring yourself to our party that will be the best offering ….any any nibbles you’ve got in your pantry. You can invite Sparky too if he makes an appearance.
Hope you have a lovely time with all you are doing.
That’s a lovely photo. I hope your hip isn’t giving you pain.
My mum needed a hip replacement but couldn’t have one as she couldn’t have any sort of anaesthetic.
Boadicea so Kaimoana’s already there. That is good news.
I expect you all will have lost your voices by the end of the visit. Wish we could all be there with you. Have a wonderful time.
Ah that sounds very niceBJ and Kaimoana
Well done to both of you. A rendezvous par excellence!
Still no sign of Sparky.
I had a hip x-ray today which was very quick and efficient. I don't expect any speed from now on.
The sun shone most of the day which bodes well for tomorrow's picnic.
I took a photo in the hospital garden.
DD sent a video of their local cuckoo who never stops calling
