Well, so that's then. Luckily there's not tens of thousands of daily infections and several hundred people a day dying. Oh, wait a minute.. ....

Lilikemaho Fri 11-Feb-22 18:28:09

Well said songstress if you are scared stay in I for one won't i want my freedom to do as I wish life is for living

MissAdventure Fri 11-Feb-22 18:30:42

Do you realise people don't have the option to stay home?

MissAdventure Fri 11-Feb-22 19:07:03

If you're not you, are you her?

Urmstongran Fri 11-Feb-22 19:10:53

Or is she who she thinks she is anyway? Some recollections may vary.

I am glad the resrictions are ending because now we need to concentrate on the economy which is now in a dire strait. Let's get on with normal living and to those who don't feel safe - well hey YOU stay indoors because I am sick of rules, lockdown, masks and testing. Bring back normality! No not the new normal but prepandemic normal.

We can't go back to "pre-pandemic normal" until a highly transmissible virus, which makes some people very ill, has disappeared completely. It's wishful thinking to believe otherwise.

More people are dying from other conditions than are dying of Covid. Project fear has take over our lives. If we are double jabbed and had boosters and probably also a flu jab the effects are expected to be minimal. Take control of your own safety. I will make my own decisions about wearing masks and where I go, and I will live my life as I choose. We only have one life and I want to get the most out of it that I can. That won’t happen if I’m stuck indoors.

Which other conditions? Which single preventable condition is killing more people than COVID?

You don't need to be stuck indoors. You just need to think about other people's welfare.

If we are going to wait for this virus to disappear completely we may have a very very long wait
Now I may lead a quiet life but I cannot think of anything I cannot do now that I couldn’t do back in 2019.

I can. Knowing that when I book a restaurant I will be going there instead of getting a call back to say they can’t open because of staff isolating.

Never experienced that one

I think it is unwise to end all regulations. People who have covid should still be required to isolate for the required number of days. Allowing those with covid to go out and about is madness.

MayBee70 Fri 11-Feb-22 19:54:44

Most people I know seem to be leading pretty normal lives and have been doing so for a long time, now. It’s only me that’s being uber careful and that’s my choice. I did go to my daughters for a cup of tea this afternoon, though, and even saw my grandsons when they came in from school but DD tested them as soon as they got in.

All you can do is carry on with any restrictions you personally feel you need to. I've been doing that for months now.

According to BBC News, Vaughan Gething, who announced the covid management plans for Wales for the next three weeks today told the BBC he was "fairly surprised" by the manner of the PM's announcement, and the fact that it did not appear to be underpinned by public health advice.
If the advice exists, he said, "it hasn't been shared with us."
"There certainly wasn't a meeting and agreement between the chief medical officers across the UK.
"There was no meeting between health ministers before this change was made, all the things that have been very normal during the course of the last two years, didn't take place," he said.
He questioned why no medical advice had been provided to underpin the changes.
"Here in Wales I can look anybody and everybody in the eye and say today's changes have gone through that process."

It certainly looks like Boris is winging it.

Glad restrictions are over. Let's get back to normal, because the economy is in a dreadful state. We have the vaccine so why has it taken so long. Those who are vulnerable? Well let them shield and let the rest of us just have a life the way it was before the pandemic. No more isolating, no more lockdowns or restrictions. Bring on normality!

Some of those who don't "feel safe" might well actually be at risk because of various other health problems. If 1 in 2 or 3 people now get cancer, that's an awful lot of immune compromised people. And they often continue to work - I did whilst undergoing chemotherapy.

It's about more than you being sick of rules and masks you know...

Allsorts Fri 11-Feb-22 21:13:54

How long can we put life on hold, we’ve been vaccinated and have to just take the risk. The problem is those that haven’t been done, that’s the risk they take though as they know the consequence.. Most of us will get it I think, hopefully milder now we’ve been jabbed.

Daisymae Fri 11-Feb-22 21:18:11

Removing all restrictions at this point is just cavalier. It's obviously being done for political rather than public health reasons. I think that Whitty et al owe the public some guidance.

I agree with you that we'll have a very long wait, which is why I don't think we'll go back to "normal" in our lifetimes - ever.

I also agree that I can't think of anything I can't do know which I could in 2019 - except I wear a mask when I know I'm going to in an enclosed space, consciously keep my distance and test myself if I know I'm going to be meeting somebody vulnerable in an enclosed space.

What are the restrictions people are making a big deal about?

So you'd rather go to a restaurant with infected staff?

I watched this and the message was like a schoolgirl tantrum - “my party was wonderful and everyone who didn’t come thought so too..” !

Every point was accompanied by a derogatory reference to Tory policy on the lax relieving of restrictions especially mask wearing! Well, I remember how Drakeford was totally anti mask wearing at the beginning of the pandemic so let’s not be calling the kettle folks...

Joesoap Fri 11-Feb-22 21:59:37

I think we have to "live with covid" but at the same time I think its too early to allow people with positive tests to be out and about, distributing covid to others I think most people will use common sense, be sensible and stay home if not feeling well, but then there are always some people who will carry on as though the pandemic is over and it is NOT OVER.

Urmstongran Fri 11-Feb-22 22:05:33

Drakeford is Labour. Nuff said.

Casdon Fri 11-Feb-22 22:07:03

But Joesoap his political point scoring was not relevant to the issue, which was that Boris has acted without medical or scientific advice is it?
