Well, so that's then. Luckily there's not tens of thousands of daily infections and several hundred people a day dying. Oh, wait a minute.. ....
Urmstongran it wasn’t Mark Drakeford.

How long can we put life on hold, we’ve been vaccinated and have to just take the risk. The problem is those that haven’t been done, that’s the risk they take though as they know the consequence.. Most of us will get it I think, hopefully milder now we’ve been jabbed.
My life isn't on hold. In what way is yours?
I'm CEV and my life isn't "on hold" either.
Actually Scotland’s Health Minister was more scathing than Vaughan Gething.

I just don’t get why anybody would believe a politician rather than scientists and public health doctors about how to keep yourself and others safe during a pandemic.

For the intellectually challenged (i.e.me) is this post code for Alegrias is now Farzanah? Also, where is Lemongrove - is she Discodancer1975? I’m getting confused!
I do not think so !! I don t know Alegrias personally but I do know she left. I would welcome her back though, she’s missed .
Find it odd that those who ask where she is when you need her were quite keen to denigrate her…..
Anyway apologies for digression. I think it’s too soon and very unnecessary to abandon mask wearing, such a small but helpful thing to do.

Because people, unfortunately, only seem to believe what suits their own personal agenda.

So am I! Lemongrove has been very quiet lately. I am rubbish at spotting reincarnation!!!
DiscoDancer has been on here for ages, so no.
I’m another who is really sorry Alegrias1 appears to have left the site. A PM I composed expressing my regret to her cannot be delivered. I hope she is reading this and realises the extent to which I have valued her opinions and her kind interactions with me.
Tim Spector has just done a blog to say he has Omicron and, although he’s on the mend he described it as ‘not a walk in the park’ and pointed out that covid has not gone away. Also said that because there is less testing being done it’s more important than ever for people to fill in their Zoe app so we can see what the trends are. He said he’d been working from home so doesn’t really understand how he caught it. And that the symptoms mentioned by the government are still way out of date eg he had back pain for a while.
MN is full of people who do not test and who do not isolate even if the test is positive. several have been out and about, shopping, school etc
I would say to the vulnerable, to be ultra cautious for a while yet
It's interesting where younger people are concerned because despite technology, WFH, shopping online, they still need or want to be out there, and that testing positive doesn't necessarily stop them. I'm not blaming them at all.

Lemongrove has left GN
I agree that we should all try to get back to near normal and learn to live with the virus to SOME extent, but I DO NOT AGREE that people should not be required to isolate if positive.
I don't think doctors or scientists would tell an older person or an ill or compromised person that it's perfectly ok to sit next to someone with chicken pox say or measles, of course they wouldn't because it's not safe.
Ok so a lot of us would be very careful, but how many will actually test from then on ? Will people know they have covid and if they do, will they care if they spread it or not?
Will there be some people who maliciously spread it?
And what about hospitals and care homes, is it going to be ok then for people to visit being possibly positive ?
I think it's ill thought out. Nobody has their life restricted really by just staying in for a few days.
I just keep thinking of so many scenarios where people's selfish actions could harm.(I know it happens anyway, but with restrictions at least it's to a lesser extent) Weddings where everyone mixes and then the bride and groom get it , ruining the honeymoon, a christening where everyone holds the baby,Grandpa's 90th birthday, Going into the dentist/hairdresser's chair where someone is positive,it's endless and frightening.
Sorry this post got repeated. I don't know how to delete it.
Now my message about repeated post seems to be added to today's comments and both instances of the repeated post have vanished. Oh well...

Lemongrove has left GN
If lemongrove has left GN then I'm not surprised because some of the personal attacks on her were just plain bullying.
I find it incredible that the same posters who did that are now criticising others who posted on an amusing thread about the SNP, which was the reason why Alegrias left. Pot, kettle and black comes to mind. She didn't leave because of a personal attack but because posters were mocking the SNP.
I'm sorry if I caused a poster to leave but I still maintain that nothing I said was a personal attack in any way. I just said I thought the thread was funny, how GN used to be but Aleg said if that was the case, she was leaving.
Mocking politicians was, I thought, par for the course on GN. It happens all the time.
But only the "right" politicians, apparently.
I’m very sorry to see that both Alegrias and Lemongrove have left Gransnet. Both will be missed by me and others.
I know this thread has run to seven pages and I know I’m repeating myself, but I’m very unhappy about the loss of the legal requirement to isolate for five days and to show two clear lateral flow tests in order to stop isolating. It’s not a big deal and I have to say that I’m disgusted by the news from Mumsnet that apparently there are younger people who completely ignore the legal obligation to isolate after a positive test. How selfish these people are!
I went to a small gathering the other week, maddyone, all older women. We were asked to take a LFT before we went as some may be vulnerable, so I did.
However, some looked astonished when it was mentioned and laughed. Everyone was wearing masks, though.
I'm surprised at people not isolating after a positive test - surely people stayed at home pre-Covid if they had flu or a rotten cold?
No, actually, they probably didn't. When I've been on trips with DGC, more than once we've come across people with children who they said were off school sick with chickenpox but bored at home.
At the moment there is a legal requirement to isolate after you have registered a positive test but there is no legal requirement to take the test in the first place.
I have found in my family the young actually test far more than some of the older members.
Some only test if they feel unwell but you can feel as right as rain and still have Covid
It wasn’t you Calistemon! Alegrias simply got fed with inaccurate postings etc plus some very anti Scottish stuff I think. However I feel both she and lemongrove gave as good as they got at times !
Possibly those who laughed had had no interactions with anyone for a week or more.
I know I haven't.
(I would have said so, though, not just laughed)

Yes, I know really Lucca, I think I was the final straw.
I've never knit a pair of socks in my life either.
Boris can’t win whatever he does . A few days ago people were moaning that they had to follow restrictions while he decided for himself what he did ( parties ) . He is now telling people that they can think for themselves and make their own decisions. We can wear masks if we want , we can keep social distance if we want or we self isolate if we want . We can even go back to near normal . We have to give up all the covid testing eventually.
I know Callistemon that it isn’t only the younger people who have a cavalier attitude to isolation. My trip to the supermarket this week bears out that it is the majority of younger people who do disregard the advice though. All the older people except one were wearing masks. Almost all of the younger ones weren’t! And I’m not talking about teenagers or very young people, I’m talking about the age group 25 to 45 by the look of them. No masks!
I’m with Alegrias regarding inaccurate postings, it does wind me up when people don’t check the facts before they post. I’m sorry they’ve both gone, opposite ends of the political spectrum but Gransnet would be very dull without the cut and thrust of debate (I agree, I also also prefer it with some humour Callistemon21, life’s too short )
