The CQC court case reveals just what was going on in Care Homes in 2020 www.theguardian.com/society/2023/may/29/cqc-case-reveals-degrading-conditions-in-england-care-home-as-covid-hit?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other This doesn't surprise me but it's horrendous to read

I - unfortunately - had first hand negative experience during the pandemic of being discharged into a dreary lack-of-care institution/home until I recovered enough to escape back to my bungalow and sanity.
The Social Services hastily moved me into a "bargain basement" facility telling me "you'll like it - 3 meals a day and a roof over your head."
When I was dumped there, in a wheelchair, it was appallingly obvious that all the other residents had advanced dementia and their assorted behaviours were intimidating.
The place was a private care home run on a profit-first basis, thus quality, privacy and dignity were way low down the priority list. It was grossly understaffed.
Food was of the Slop & Stodge variety, activities were television, television or television and the permitted two tepid showers per week were inadequate.
To round off, the trademark smell of urine laced with the aromas of excrement and strong disinfectant will stay with me forever.
I was lucky to recover and return home and subsequently submitted an official complaint to the CQC, but nothing has been heard since.
The CQC, like a lot of regulatory bodies, are probably useless.

The government should nationalise the care homes and fund them from taxation like the NHS.
