It began as group support during difficult times and although Covid has faded a little, the friendship has endured and become stronger.

Still here for anyone to join a non-judgemental, caring thread during the often challenging time in life.

I'm a newbie - found friends after lockdown. Grateful to them for being so warm.

Grammaretto Mon 02-Jun-25 20:49:21

That's a good one Doodle πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Maybe in the circumstances how about Hound dog, Elvis?

Much love from me xx

NotSpaghetti Tue 03-Jun-25 00:25:22

Very briefly πŸ˜ƒ - my mother-in-law has walked 10 metres with a walking aid today! πŸŽ‰
Keeping 🀞she can do it tomorrow as well!

On the back of this relief I went swimming and did 50 lengths of a smallish pool (and told off some England U21s who were going to get straight in the pool after the sauna without showering) 😱

Wow! Your MiL and you NotSpag

πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

I'm going on an hour's cycle ride today. The first since well before the new hip. I had a very short practice yesterday to see if I was safe enough. I think I am as long as I don't have to contend with traffic, pedestrians, other cyclists or potholes -- oh and wind and rain. πŸ˜‚

My Helper squeezed my bike into the back of the car for me.

We went to the art school graduate show yesterday where one of my Helpers was exhibiting. She and her boyfriend showed us around and it was lovely meeting all the happy students on the brink of the rest of their lives.

My eldest DGS will be 18 in a few weeks. He'll be leaving school and making decisions about his future.

I hope Doodle you aren't in too much pain.
In future you and Cherry will have to share a padded cell or perhaps a hot tub πŸ˜‰ so you are unable to damage yourselves.

Well I'm off to climb into my lycra

How was the herb hunt Kaimoana?

NotSpaghetti Tue 03-Jun-25 09:12:37

Oh yes.
Do hope you got your herbs, Kaimoana

It's pouring with rain here Grammaretto... - I hope it's dry where you are for your first new hip cycling trip.

Doodle please take care.
😬😬😬😬😬

Just a quickie from me as I remain discombobulated after yesterday's birthday 🎁 🎈 πŸŽ‚s - takes longer for the new elderly to recover these days.

Here's hoping Doodle is coping, that Grammaretto got through her bike ride and hearty congratulations to famille NS for two remarkable feats of human endurance, the swim and the brilliant walking!

Songs for NN's nuptials?
I think she is an anthem kind of girl, so I will proffer
*Things can only get better/D:ream
*I'm gonna be (500 miles) /The Proclaimers

To be played near the end when all the wheels are nicely oiled (if you get my drift).πŸ’’

ixion Tue 03-Jun-25 19:03:33

Herbs, Kaimoana?
Here's hoping!

Doodle Tue 03-Jun-25 20:42:49

Ixion did we miss your birthday. So sorry. Many happy returns. 21 again! Hope you had a lovely day
Grammaretto. Sorry I can’t stop giggling at the though if you out in snazzy Lycra on your bike. 😊😊
Love to all xx

Grammaretto Tue 03-Jun-25 21:17:35

After the ride, we 6 arrived at the 19th hole of a golf course for our lunch.
There were showers so I partook and
changed into a dress. I joined the others -all men- and immediately said I didn't recognise them with their cycling clothes off, which was absolutely true.

I managed the ride without falling off so it was a success.

Happy birthday ixion πŸŽ‚ I hope you has a brilliant day

Kaimoana2 Tue 03-Jun-25 21:48:24

Happy Birthday ixion flowers

Songs for NN wedding. smile
As people wait for bride to arrive: 'Can't help falling in love' (Elvis not organ) and 'Unforgettable' and At last'.

As bride arrives (organ) You are my Sunshine (congregation to joyfully join in) smile
At the wait for signing register: Pachelbel's Canon in D then Perfect.

And if you want a truly traditional, triumphal exit: Wedding March by Mendelssohn.
Please can I come if I promise not to wear my lobster costume ? grin

Hospital tomorrow for more intensive cardio tests - then dentist on Friday. What a week shock

Kaimoana2 Wed 04-Jun-25 06:50:59

No herbs and no Karen who was off work yet again.

NotSpaghetti Wed 04-Jun-25 08:37:08

Oh Kaimoana!
πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
X

Grammaretto Wed 04-Jun-25 08:41:33

Oh no Kaimoana what a bummer!
So hard for you when you have to rely on others having always been independent.
Maybe you should buy the online version to get started and then pray πŸ™ that by the time you run out, Karen or someone is able to take you hunting.

I am loving the wedding playlist. What does the Bride- to- be think of it so far?
I was sent a photo of an Irish wedding. I hope it's OK to post it here. Note the Town Crier.

Naughtyneine Wed 04-Jun-25 09:23:18

I'm loving your song choices.... Walking up the aisle to 'I would walk 500 miles ' ...sprang to mind but then again maybe not.

I've actually emailed Claudia Winkleman to see if I could get a copy of Diana ( from The Piano) playing her composition 'Dreams'. Its such a beautiful piece and sums up our story... Neither of us thought we'd find love and soul mates but we did...
Right enough soppy stuff.
Kaimoana is this herb available in the UK? or only NZ. If it's available in the UK can I source it and send it out to you?

Ixion...Happy Birthday.... It's the done thing now apparently to knock 20 years off your real age...ie 60 is the new 40..I do have to keep reminding myself that I am not 30 anymore..or 40 or 50 or 60 but my head says I'm 17 so I'll stick with that for now

Grammaretto.... Did the men really wear lycra? ..How brave...if I'm really truthful I find men in lycra quite disconcerting....and the same can be said for males over the age of 6 wearing Speedos!!!!.

When I was in Turkey once we visited one of those places where you smother yourself in foul smelling mud in the hope that having gone into the pool looking like that woman from the Bond films who had knives in her shoes you'd come out looking like Claudia Schiffer.....

Once smothered you have to stand in the sun too allow said mud to dry....It took a long while to get over the sight of a very large German man coming and standing bedside me who it turned out was wearing Speedos but due to his size to all intents and purposes it looked like he was completely naked. I was quite traumatised and worse still it took days to get rid of all the mud, it was stuck in crevices I didn't know I had

I'm on a mission today to try and find some sort of hairstyle that my hairdresser can do for me on Saturday..a sort of tiara type hairband thing was delivered yesterday...I can't tell you what I looked like when I tried it on...the princess out of Shrek sprang to mind. Hey Ho does anyone know how quickly Botox takes to work?

Grammaretto Wed 04-Jun-25 09:43:00

On closer examination of a photo, not much lycra sorry Doodle

ixion Wed 04-Jun-25 10:07:58

They still seem scarily professional tho', Grammaretto!
Well done!

'Gutted', as they say, about the herb excursion, Kaimoana. There must be a solution somewhere ...
Pleased that your M.O.T. means you are being looked after, at least.

The headress sounds intriguing, NN. Do you 'do' the veil thing as well? Just curious😊
I'm sure the whole day will be wonderful. My mum reckoned that brides always 'shined' (gawd, is that 'shone'?) on their wedding day and you, fellow 🦞, will be no exception.

Tho' we still need the photographic evidence of same, pleaseπŸ˜‰.

Thank you to everyone for your birthday good wishes.

Doodle Wed 04-Jun-25 19:28:41

Sorry about the herbs Kaimoana i too would send you some if they were available I. The uk. I don’t suppose Amaz*^ has them?
Left hand improving but both ache a lot when texting so sorry I can’t write more, am reading and sending love and hugs.xx

NotSpaghetti Wed 04-Jun-25 21:39:22

Mother-in-law alert
... she walked 20 metres today!
πŸ˜ƒ

NotSpaghetti Wed 04-Jun-25 21:39:59

...admittedly with some sort of walker/support!

Grammaretto Thu 05-Jun-25 16:53:00

Isn't that wonderful NotSpag. You must all be very proud of her.

I've been on a long for me coastal walk today. I'm truly knackered!

I've also been wondering what to give my DGS for his 28th birthday which is approaching very soon. Anything I suggest he seems to already have. His dad suggests I ask him. No surprises then.

Doodle Thu 05-Jun-25 21:26:54

Good news Notspaghetti
Grammaretto any more news on the house front?
Love to all. Sorry hands hurt tonight.

Kaimoana2 Thu 05-Jun-25 22:57:55

Gramaretto You will know his interests so any sort of voucher will be welcomes and these dayss it's not just books but restaurants, concerts, cinema, food, trips and much more.

He'll get both surpise and pleaseure from it. win-win grin

Grammaretto Fri 06-Jun-25 03:49:43

18th birthday not 28th! I just noticed my typo!
18th is like the 21st used to be yet they aren't grown up.

I want to give him something which will last.
