About prams.
I had a Pedigree 'high coach' pram for my firstborn. The well in the middle was packed with groceries when I went shopping.
We lived at the top of a long, steep hill so it was hard going on the way back and once, with shopping in the front of the pram as well, it tipped up as I negotiated a kerb and the baby rolled out with the cans of beans.
He was well swaddled so no damage except to my conscience!
Second baby, ten years later spent most of his travels in a sling around my neck as I was involved with Viet-namese refugees and with no car, walked everywhere.
Also it was easier to carry two big supermarket bags when baby was safe on my chest!
Don't let anyone tell you daily, hard exercise means weight loss – I did not shed an ounce but nor did I want to. It was the post-natal nurse who was obsseded with that sort of thing, weighing me as well as baby..
When I first came to NZ in the early 70's, public transport vehicles had hooks on the front, outside where Mums (or more often, the driver) would hook a pushchair. Of course they got wet in bad weather but we all carried towels and a cushion in our bags.
Some Mums worried their posh strollers would be ‘taken by mistake’ but I was never bothered, mine was a decent but old fashioned 2nd hand one.
Now, I see poshchairs so large only a huge SUV could accommodate them folded. Some look as if Mum could easily fit in beside baby.
Next step will be to fit a little motor so they are easier to push up hills!
I longed for that in the old days.
