It began as group support during difficult times and although Covid has faded a little, the friendship has endured and become stronger.

Still here for anyone to join a non-judgemental, caring thread during the often challenging time in life.

I'm a newbie - found friends after lockdown. Grateful to them for being so warm.

🐕 🐕 🐶 ixion. Is Sparky at yours? He isn't here. He has a Hebridean attitude to time keeping.

My DS#1, once had a school report with those words on it.

You did have a good day getting sorted at the doctors and being declared fit. Well done!
How's the car?

Hobbycraft is closing all over the country but the one here is still popular. I guess people shop online.
I have to see and feel what I'm buying but the roads are so busy even at midday that I might think twice.

Hoping today is actually
Tranquil Tuesday Doodle

Hugs

Grammaretto Tue 16-Sept-25 08:26:44

I am glad ixion, NN and NotSpag are putting their various body parts through their paces.

I hope they all pass with distinction.

I take it all back. Sparky is forgiven. He arrived at 7am he has his own key fixed the heating. The thermostats needed new batteries which between us we had, he shut both windows properly and has diagnosed my kiln problems. He'll fix a new thermocouple once it arrives. He was away by 8am.

He does love to explain at length what he's doing it's hard to keep my eyes open but he is a treasure.

Tranquil Tuesday everyone.

NotSpaghetti Tue 16-Sept-25 08:28:37

Oh bliss Grammaretto!
Fabulous!

ixion Tue 16-Sept-25 19:32:06

That was an excellent result, Grammaretto. Pleased that that was more off your 'to do' list. My list never shrinks as I am always adding more to the bottom most of it unachievable. It is wide-ranging too, from 'buy lightbulbs' to 're-landscape the garden' ...

Foul weather here for most of the day: paddled off to the hospital by bus thereby avoiding parking issues and taking me direct to the main entrance.
I like the stress-free journey, pretty countryside and the ability to see over the hedges and walls which cocoon the posh houses and villas of the local WAGs.

The bus driver, a cheerful chappie with a running commentary (mostly geared to lady drivers attempting to park their big SUVs) and over-loud Radio 2 kindly held up the bus to enable me to put up my brolly before I alighted into the deluge.

What has everyone been up to?
Has today been better, Doodle?

Doodle Tue 16-Sept-25 21:41:04

Grammaretto Monday and Tuesday have been the worst days of the week since I lost Ken. That’s why I named them miserable Monday and terrible Tuesday. If I’m feeling really low then I think well it’s one of those days and Wednesday should be better. Nothing to do with the weather although when it’s dark and gloomy I feel worse.
Thank goodness Sparky turned up like your knight in shining armour and fixed the heating. I hope you weren’t still in bed when he came. To shut the windows 😱
Ixion so pleased one of your body parts passed its MOT with flying colours. Let’s hope the rest are ok too.
Sorry your window fell apart. A snazzy new one sounds a good idea. I’ve got electric blinds and think they’re great (except when the battery runs out)
Notspaghetti i like the sound of tranquil Tuesday. I will work towards it.
Today has been better Ixion thank you. I’ve had the car MOTd and passed and had my hair done. Church tomorrow which is always good.
Kaimoana sending love and hugs.

ixion Tue 16-Sept-25 21:44:40

Are you watching the Sewing Bee final, Grammaretto?

Orla and her (model) sister talk to each other in Gaelic😍

Grammaretto Wed 17-Sept-25 08:57:44

I did watch the sewing bee on catchup. I noticed the Gaelic ixion
Reminds me my classes start next week. Gaelic not sewing

How is Kaimoana?

Naughtyneine Wed 17-Sept-25 09:58:10

Not Spag a week in now and fingers crossed it's all getting a bit easier for you. I must admit it was absolute bloody mindedness that made me do things like getting in the bath after 2 weeks it was quite a feat...DH holding onto me ( at times bits he didn't really have to hold 😱) and me with the operated leg outstretched and lowered in to the blissful water. Getting out involved me pushing down on the sides of the bath till the muscles in my arms bulged like a Russian shot putter and DH ( again assisting by not always grabbing helpful haul holds but it did make me laugh).
Doodle maybe you could book something lovely to do on a Monday or Tuesday in the future so that gradually the memories of those sad days recede a little and are replaced ( never forgotten) with more gentle ones
I haven't heard from the Consultant yet, maybe they will just write and give me a date. I didn't really want the op going into the Winter months but it doesn't look like I'll have much choice. 6 years is too long to be in pain
Grammaretto how lovely that sparky sorted out all those bits. I love the idea of Hebridean time, a bit like our Welsh version ' I'll be there now in a minute'
Ixion did you have to mention remote control opening windows and electric blinds that's given me ideas that will send DH to drink when I say 'I've been thinking'

I've got boring stuff to do today and can procrastinate no longer, can you imagine if we Lobsters actually did meet up, it would be non stop chatter for days, I think I'd love that
Kaimoana I am hoping that the leaves have worked and you are feeling better and enjoying your Spring and will be back to tell us all about it soon, even better would be you are with your Gubbins♥️

* Love to you all*

NotSpaghetti Wed 17-Sept-25 14:20:22

Encouraging that you had a bath at only 2 weeks NN.
Is that after you had your dressing checked?

Doodle Wed 17-Sept-25 20:22:25

Grammaretto glad you’re going back to Gaelic classes. Do you still have the same tutor?
NN you made me laugh with your description of getting in and out of the bath. Hope you get the date for your op soon.
Remote control blinds are good. No cords hanging down and easy to operate. So pleased we got rid of our Venetian blinds.
Notspaghetti how are you getting on with the stairs? Hope you’re coping well
Kaimoana thinking of you and missing you x

Grammaretto Thu 18-Sept-25 09:23:08

I also hope those leaves are working for you Kaimoana.
Maybe a setback with your vision, or lack of it is the reason for your silence.
Sending hugs.

My friend has arrived but is away in Edinburgh today for appointments.
Meanwhile I'm trying to make space for a piano arriving.
MM is very excited about this. It's modelled on one that Mozart would have played but is a reproduction. It's arriving from Grantown on Spey .
I hope the removers will take away an old tuneless piano which is currently in the flat.
MM is decidedly keen if he's already moving his possessions in!

Naughtyneine you made me giggle with the bathing shenanigans 🤣 🤪
🛁

How is your progress going NotSpaghetti?

I'm going to yoga this morning but can't dally at the nearby garden centre as I will have to be back for the piano movers.

I wondered if you would mention your remote control blinds Doodle
😃 very envy making but a little luxury never hurts!
I have safely blinds which have no strings but a short chain which has to be jerked up and down in small stages. A test for my patience.

ixion Thu 18-Sept-25 10:19:51

Crumbs Grammaretto - looks like you may be hosting soirées next.
The classic scene from The Ladykillers comes to mind and makes me smile - Katy Johnson opening the door to a motley crewe of villains-cum-musicians.

I hope Kaimoana is managing to cope with all that life is throwing at her.
We miss you🌺

Grammaretto Thu 18-Sept-25 13:06:52

Ah the teaparty! You've had me watching favourite moments.

Take a look at this video, 'the ladykillers' share.google/NipYb4ysPA0hdwBTX

No piano movers today. They can't come until tomorrow. I must go and collect my df who had a nasty shock at her appointment.

Yoga was lovely.

NotSpaghetti Thu 18-Sept-25 18:00:18

Hello from me🩼
Was feeling very miserable as I just feel so utterly useless.
I can't carry anything about, take ages to set up "helpful" things I can do and then am too exhausted to do anything.

Now I've given in, I've got myself upstairs (under supervision) for a lie down.
And now I've a given myself a telling off - not least because my lovely Spaghetti man has given me a love and a hug. I do know what a blessing he is. I can see I'm a very lucky person and just need to hang on in for a while.
I just want you all to know how brave I think you are to just survive day by day without your very best friend 🧡

With hugs from me. X

Doodle Thu 18-Sept-25 20:10:21

Grammaretto what a strange scenario. MM not contracted on buying yet but moving his piano in. Maybe it’s a takeover by stealth. Wouldn’t happen down south. I think you have different ways of house selling than we do.
We bought the electric blinds because I got so fed up with cleaning our Venetian blinds. DH said he was happy to go with roller blinds on the condition that they didn’t come with strings attached (so to speak). No, not cheap but some of our blinds you can’t reach to pull up without standing on steps so we decided to go electric so it would be easier in our old(er) age.
Hope your Df is ok.
ixion the Lady Killers is one of my favorite films. 🤣
Notspaghetti yes Treasure your dear man. Every second is a blessing spent together. It’s difficult when you’re not managing as well as you hoped. I got very low when I broke my wrist and everything was just so hard to do on your own. You will improve it just takes time.
Kaimoana we are all missing you. Hope you’re ok. X

Doodle Thu 18-Sept-25 20:10:54

Sorry what I meant was every second spent together is a blessing.

CherryCezzy Thu 18-Sept-25 20:42:09

I know I'm hardly posting these days but I'm missing you too Kaimoana and sending you my love x

Night night🌙 lobStars 💕

Grammaretto Thu 18-Sept-25 20:52:18

Indeed so true Doodle.
I've been looking through a beautiful book made for my DH by his friends after he died. Someone put a pile of cut out paper birds for people to write a dedication and stuck them on the window of the community store which he started.
Then after some time the birds came down and were mounted into a book.

My friend had not seen it before so we read it together this evening remembering him and some daft things he did which no-one had mentioned. grin

I'm glad you are having some rest now NotSpag. It's the only way to heal properly. You must let others help. And yes you are blessed to have Mr Spaghetti to look after you. ❤️

Doodle it's not that selling houses is different here it's just that MM is a friend of mine and I want him to buy the house. If he can't manage to raise the money by February, I will have to put the house on the open market because I can't live alone here for ever. I can't afford to.

I phoned DD this evening as it's DGD birthday but poor DD is unwell. Covid variant? DS is also poorly.

Another early night for me.

Night night 🌙 😴

Naughtyneine Fri 19-Sept-25 09:26:19

NotSpag I remember feeling just like that after a week and crying and saying to DH ( DP as he was then) 'what if this is as good as I get' and him being his usual reassuring self saying 'we'll deal with it) I think it's usual to have times like that a bit like the 3 day baby blues As Scarlet O Hara said in Gone with the Wind Tomorrow is another day.

Grammaretto what a beautiful idea about the birds and book Something to look back on and remember things that sometimes slip out of mind Yesterday I watched via a link the funeral of someone I worked with years ago. He was in show business and his funeral was just as I would have expected. He travelled all over the world was friends with Angela Lansbury and appeared on TV in the same show that saw The Beatles television debut. He was full of fun and had me in stitches with his tales and watching it brought back many memories that if forgotten He was pure show business to the end taken ill on the train back to Glasgow and the train being stopped at Lockerbie to take him to hospital
I smiled through my tears.
I was having an edge of tears day anyway, the pain overwhelmed me on Wednesday and I nearly disgraced myself in the Supermarket by crying instead I stared intently into a freezer at frozen Yorkshire puddings (honestly you would think I could at least have chosen something exotic to stare at) until I felt able to pay for the pickling spice ( don't ask) and leave. Not sure what would have been worse dripping tears on Aunt Bessies Yorkshire Puds or bursting into tears while talking to the Consultants secretary which is what I did yesterday afternoon. She told me that the Specialist Consultant I saw last week hasn't yet spoken to my original Consultant to plan the next step. She is going to write a transcript of our call and leave it on his desk so maybe he will get back to me soon.
Doodle wise words re treasuring every moment ♥️

Doodle Fri 19-Sept-25 20:51:37

Grammaretto what a lovely thing to do in memory of your husband. How nice you and your friend could look at the book and read what others had written about their memories.
Ah I understand now about MM. . I do hope he manages to get his finances together. It would be nice if your house was bought by someone you know.
NN so sorry you are having such pain. Good idea to phone the Consultants Secretary. Sometimes they need chasing up.
Hope you get some news soon.
I went out with our walking group this morning and then to the hospice for lunch. After lunch I sat there with my knitting and at least four people came up and commented on how pretty my wool was and asked what I was knitting.
Knitting is obviously a good way to strike up conversations with people.
Have a good weekend all,
Cherry I’m with you, worried about our dear Kaimoana
We’re thinking of you dear lady xx

Grammaretto Fri 19-Sept-25 21:04:20

We are all a bit worried about you Kaimoana

I am glad you had a nice day Doodle. Good that knitting is a magnet for conversations. The new "puppy" perhaps?

I took my friend blackberrying a short car drive away but my car began to make awful noises. I think the exhaust is about to fall off so that's going to be difficult.
I've already cancelled my plan to go foraging at the beach tomorrow.

The piano arrived and is bigger than I imagined. I'm really not sure where it will go. It's plonked in the middle of my living room carpet at present. 😲

My friend has already retired to her room so I think I'll follow suit.

NN I am so sorry you are in such pain. Please can it ease. Sending hugs. xxxxxoooxxx

ixion Fri 19-Sept-25 21:29:00

Ah, just re-read properly Grammaretto's post. Not a potential furry companion after all!

You always used to rubbish your knitting achievements, Doodle, didn't you? A stuffed toy (?) whose name I have forgotten. May we see either the project, the wool or both? Pleased your day went well.

Unlike Grammaretto with the poorly car. Hope the prognosis and bill are favourable🤞.
Sorry to hear MM's piano is bigger than expected🤷‍♀️
We had friends, when the children were small, who -like us all at the time- had to be careful with our pennies.

They agreed between themselves that they would not exchange gifts one Christmas but concentrate on the family.
She followed the agreement, bought him nothing.
He surprised her with a piano ...

I wonder if there is anything we can do for Kaimoana?
Back to bold, double spacing? Anything at all?

It is very concerning, such is the strength of our little group's support for each other 🦞❤️

.

NotSpaghetti Sat 20-Sept-25 00:37:37

Kaimoana
shall we all go back to bold type?

We hope you are ok
flowers

Doodle Sat 20-Sept-25 19:52:35

Grammaretto yes i often find people come up and talk to me when I’m knitting. Mainly older people of course but that’s ok we all need a conversation starter.
Shame your car is playing up hope it’s not an expensive repair. Oh dear what are you going to do with that huge piano.
Not the sort of thing that can fit in a corner with a cloth over and a pot plant on top.
ixion and Notspaghetti we are all concerned about Kaimoana i will try and get in touch.
I will post a picture of my wool soon. I’ve had to unpick what I’ve done so need to start again
