It began as group support during difficult times and although Covid has faded a little, the friendship has endured and become stronger.

Still here for anyone to join a non-judgemental, caring thread during the often challenging time in life.

I'm a newbie - found friends after lockdown. Grateful to them for being so warm.

That is a really beautiful garden. Thanks for sharing it with us

My mother-in-law's doing OK really. *Still frustrated that she's not doing more. She still can't get in/out of a car which means she's not getting out so much but she does have a good carer at the moment.
Physio is due there today and she has apparently got a list of things she wants to practice with him!

We all managed to enjoy ourselves despite a recent back operation (brother) nasty cold (me)

It has been a nostalgic time interlaced with worries about the future (Russian drones over Denmark)

My DSiL has stocked their larder for a seige.

The young boys enjoyed their day in Edinburgh. Top of the bus and driving a racing car with simulator at the Royal Scottish museum were rheir highlights.
I took my brother to a beautiful garden, open by appointment where we were treated to amazing stories from the owner who is 97 and still gardening! I thought of your DMiL NotSpag. How is she?
Pictures from the Shepherd's house garden. The house is 17th century. The garden and shell cottage much more recent.

It's a profession which is getting increasingly dangerous every year.

Thank you all❤️

It's International Police Remembrance Day , when we we recall with honour those officers who daily risk their lives and often forfeit them for OUR safety and that of our families and countries.
Bless 'em all.

Hope you are feeling a little better, Grammaretto and that family is pitching in to lighten the load.

So many memories, Kaimoana, so terribly hard to declutter.

Pleased you are being supported and well looked-after, Doodle.
Our Team has a new Manager - we may need to enlist you in a new routine.
High kicks have been mentioned😱 .

Doodle Sun 28-Sept-25 18:21:22

Ixion that sounds interesting I’ll have a look too.
Oh Grammaretto I’m so sorry you feel so bad. Sounds like you have a bad cold. What a pity it’s while your son and family are with you. I do hope your son improves soon. Sorry he’s in pain. That’s not good.
What a lovely gathering last night. Sounds a lovely family occasion.
Kaimoana good idea to de clutter, I need to do it too. I can only do my own stuff as I can’t bear to part with anything that was DH’s although I might dispose of some of his shoes if they’re good enough to pass on.
Had a nice day at church and lunch out with friend.

I'd like to see how these maps differ from other maps.
Maybe I'll see more on the laptop than my phone.

Grammaretto Sun 28-Sept-25 08:41:09

Godfrey maps are fascinating. Thanks ixion.

I'm really feeling pretty rubbish today. Hot and choked up with the cold and am still in bed. Do Lobstars get colds?

I will drag myself up and spend some more time with my family.
DB has had major surgery recently and is in pain and thin. I am grateful that he has made the effort to come.

We had a grand party last night . My niece and her DH cooked and DS and DGS joined us. I think there were 10 of us. I lit the fire as it was very cold.

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Sept-25 22:37:19

How interesting ixion - I'll take a look at those.*
Maybe he's done an area I know.
🤞

ixion Sat 27-Sept-25 22:32:01

Talking of streets and their histories, I wonder if you know of the Ordinance Survey maps of Alan Godfrey?
He regularly produces new historical maps of many areas in the UK dating from the late 19th century and adds blurb of interest. Some maps have street directories of the area covered where you can see who lived where - or your own house, if you go back far enough!
They have made excellent Christmas presents (and light to send!) to interested audiences.

Mr.Godfrey does his own footslogging round the areas he is researching (sometimes a colleague replaces him if the weather is bad or he isn't able to travel) and writes a charming newsletter for those who follow him.

Short posts are great (for me) as I can read them. My eyes can't cope with a mass oftext.

Yes, the de-cluttering isn't easy.
I have, in the past, done a huge amount because I wanted to make things easier for my DS when I popped me clogs.

However, there is still such a lot to do.

I can and will be ruthless and a lot of what I now own will be given away.
For instance, I have a drawer full of lovely shawls and scarves I've been given over the years. One or two have been worn but the rest are as new as when they were gifted to me.

Karen, who hasn't been working for a long time now, is coming to visit next week and I shall give her the choice. She uses them as wall hangings.

The White Cottage is huge Grammaretto
Sorry all short post tonight I’ve been out with DS1 and DIl and had a lovely meal. I’m so tired now I keep nodding off.

Doodle Sat 27-Sept-25 21:55:20

Glad your car is fixed Grammaretto
How funny the connections are growing between our little group. Indeed ixion a hatchery 🤣

Doodle Sat 27-Sept-25 21:50:37

Norspaghetti what an interesting walk. All different. Nice to have something interesting to look at.
Glad your MILs carer is proving to be of use.
Kaimoana just do what you can and take things slowly. Hope everything gets sorted out so you can make the move sooner than you think.

ixion Sat 27-Sept-25 19:06:01

Crumbs😳
Was this maybe the 🦞 Hatchery in its earliest form?

CherryCezzy Sat 27-Sept-25 18:38:17

I think it was on the No.270 bus route Grammaretto, old stomping ground 😁

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Sept-25 16:48:38

Today I walked a bit further, crossed the road and came back along the other pavement. It is less interesting side. A bit more uniform but backing onto wetlands, a golf course and some allotments so the housesused to have huge gardens. They have all been made enormous it seems to me.

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Sept-25 16:45:25

Nice to be near the Common though
I think we have (most of us) lived in tiny converted flats at some point
Happy days

Grammaretto Sat 27-Sept-25 16:18:03

It wasn't posh in my day. They were large houses but often divided. When we first arrived from New Zealand we lived at number 52 in a small flat within the house.

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Sept-25 15:08:12

*Gosh Grammaretto and here is some (old) sale info about it!
www.wowhaus.co.uk/2015/05/12/on-the-market-charles-voysey-designed-grade-ii-listed-property-in-london-sw18/

Hard to believe it's as early as 1903!

Grammaretto Sat 27-Sept-25 14:54:27

Here is the white cottage. It's huge. I thought cottages were small.

Also, meant to say, it was your Wandsworth Common walk which made me think of my husband's aunt. She lived on the edge of Epsom Common and had similar mixed development roads near her house.

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Sept-25 12:25:02

Grammaretto - I have my husband's aunt's notes from art school in the 1920s... what do we do with those I wonder!?

Grammaretto Sat 27-Sept-25 12:06:39

I am enjoying your stroll NotSpag!
I'm reminded of a walk I liked when I lived in London. It was the fringes of Wandsworth Common. All the houses were different. One I liked a lot was known as the white cottage.
Designed by Voysey 1903.

My car is back on the road with a new tail pipe. So tomorrow we could go out somewhere in 2 cars. Although I don't have car seats for the DC.

The prospect of decluttering is worse than the reality Kaimoana. Once you get going you can be quite brutal.

Just imagine yourself having to unpack it at the other end.

My DB has promised to look through our DM stuff while he's here.
How do I have her university of Rangoon notes for her thesis from 1935? I think it must date from when she lived here but even so....

Enjoy your garden ixion it sounds nice. Any photos?

NotSpaghetti Sat 27-Sept-25 09:57:08

I'm hoping that Saturday, too, will warm us all
grin
Yes, indeed!
Glad you pointed that out ixion!!!
Was about to "up a gear". Now I don't have to!
