We have all heard about the front line health and care staff, the bus drivers, the food shop staff but I have been hearing about all sorts of people who are also contributing massively to our efforts to contain and eventually eradicate the virus.

I'll start with one example near to home.

"When Scotland and its Scotch industry came under threat, distilleries responded swiftly to the crisis and managed to turn production from drinks to hand sanitiser for the fight against coronavirus. Only now is the scale of the operation coming into focus, with the Scottish whisky industry expected to help supply nurses and doctors on the NHS frontline in the UK with 50 million litres of hand sanitiser over the next eight weeks, and this is outwith care homes also being supplied. Those with funds are being charged cost price only while supplies to Charities are donated gratis^ I expect in 2032 there will be a shortage of 12yr old malts smile

Many in the village are distillery workers who are working round the clock, as is the yeast factory, which supplies not only the drinks trade and bakers but also the fondant for Cadbury's Creme Eggs. My next door neighbour, who is a metal work engineer, has been seconded to produce moulds for the glassblowers who are also working 12 hour shifts to produce the bottles for the sanitisers, as well as vast quantities of specialised glass lab equipment.

Any other surprising 'essential workers' in your neck of the woods?

I am amazed by all the innovative things people are doing to help during this pandemic.
They all deserve our thanks

I think bus drivers deserve a special mention.

9, I think, have lost their lives.

Teachers have only received token mentions. These are the people taking care of the children of NHS staff etc. The NHS staff work close to the virus and some thought to the well-being of their children has to be a concern. The children of key workers are at more risk than other children. The teachers have these children in their care

Good point.

My boy's school have been very supportive. I couldn't have managed without the staff.

And Police Officers - a close relative of mine is a sergeant in a northern city. He was recently sent to an unexplained death, with CV19 as the suspected cause, with only a pair of gloves and a face mask!

Yes, and prison staff and postal workers.

And nursery staff.

Supermarket staff, too.
I'm not sure they ever thought they'd have such stressful times as now.
