Grumppa. 'I'll buy you one more frozen orange juice on this fantastic day'
Reminds me of hitching through the eastern Pyrenees from France to Spain in the early '60s. No orange juice vendors apparent but still a fantastic day!
First time I heard 'Where do you go to, my lovely' was after a party sitting in someone's car somewhere in Manchester looking at the Shell flare. We both immediately liked the song. I wonder whether 'someone' remembered that moment too on hearing of Peter Sarstedt's loss!

Is that pedantic? Or simply getting it right?

Or is it something else entirely DaphneBroon ? hmm

Personally I don't think there's any plaice (couldn't resist) for over exacting, fussiness on what, I assumed was supposed be a warm RIP/Tribute to the late, great PS.

But I must be wrong. You started the thread after all.

Predictive text (should have been "oo-er") blush

DaphneBroon Mon 09-Jan-17 12:57:38

Oo-we gillybob
What is wrong with using a correct word anyway?
Bare/bear
Brake/break
Reed/read
Bought/brought
Lend/borrow
Draw/drawer
Lever/leaver
We're not talking spelling or grammar here, but different meanings.
Is that pedantic? Or simply getting it right? hmm

grumppa Mon 09-Jan-17 12:53:08

Were, not we're. When I die the words Predictive Text will be found written on my heart.

grumppa Mon 09-Jan-17 12:46:11

.... and you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire. Great song; we're there any others?

gillybob Mon 09-Jan-17 12:15:59

My reply was meant to be tongue in cheek DaphneBroom hmm

I have never read the lyrics in my life.

Oh well never mind.

You don't need to venture into pedants corner Izabella you can't move very far away from them anywhere on GN wink

DaphneBroon Mon 09-Jan-17 11:40:47

Sorry gillybob

DaphneBroon Mon 09-Jan-17 11:40:12

Because gillyob, the lyrics are in the link.

FarNorth Mon 09-Jan-17 11:39:37

What a beautiful voice Peter Sarstedt had sad

Izabella Mon 09-Jan-17 11:36:38

I did venture once into pedants corner. Never again! 'Nuff said.

gillybob Mon 09-Jan-17 11:15:29

Thank you DaphneBroon I am sure Peter Sarstedt would have really appreciated your devotion to spelling/gramatical accuracy. hmm

....anyway how do you know that the "floosie" Marie Claire did not BARE her scars.........? Assuming of course, that she had physical scars as well as the ones she had "deep inside" (before I am pulled up on that one).

Of course the scars "deep inside" could have been from a previously botched operation. We have no way of knowing.

He win the Ivor Novello award for that song

Indeed you could Izabella but in this case she doesn't.

I think pedants' corner has instances of the "bare with me" type of response. hmm

Izabella Mon 09-Jan-17 09:45:30

But you can bare scars if you want to. Philosophical discussion courtesy of a spellchecker perhaps?

Izabella Mon 09-Jan-17 09:44:09

Ahhh yes. I love the song and the words. Another one to miss, but you know in all of this we have wonderful technology to bring them back into our lives at the touch of a button. I spent yesterday evening in the company of Messrs. Bowie and Michael.

DaphneBroon Mon 09-Jan-17 08:40:13

I think Marie-Claire would bear the scars, rather than bare them don't you?
#bloodyspellchecker/predictive text?

gillybob Sun 08-Jan-17 22:47:54

My sister and I saw him a few times over the years in various 60's revivals. His voice was as good as ever. I loved that song and could sing along word for word.

I loved the line

"so look into my face Marie Claire and remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
But I know you still bare the scars...."

RIP Peter x

NotTooOld I think the problem is that we are of the same age group as the majority of those who have died recently and we are not immortal.

NotTooOld Sun 08-Jan-17 22:21:13

Where do you go to my lovely? I love that song. Looks like we are starting again, Charleygirl. RIP Peter Sarstedt.

Charleygirl Sun 08-Jan-17 22:17:50

Remember "Where Do You Go To, My Lovely?"
