The suggested format is that this is a discussion thread about the places along the route, links allowed in moderation, any food mentioned is vegan. Sort of like a treasure hunt for information, yet no teams, people sharing what they find.

MissAdventure Fri 08-Jul-22 12:35:51

Do you think there are places we haven't seen, yet?
If not, then back on Der Goldene Delfin is fine with me. (The golden dolphin? Or is that too simplistic a,guess?)

StarDreamer Fri 08-Jul-22 11:56:44

Well, there are various suggestions from various people and we are working them into the experience.

At any time anyone reading this thread can be active or passive, switching between them as they choose.

Just imagining we are on a river cruise.

We need to decide whether to stay in Franfurt for the moment, do a side trip, or for Der Goldene Delfin to leave her mooring and proceed on her journey along the river Main with us on board.

MissAdventure Fri 08-Jul-22 11:23:47

We could indeed, if you're happy to organise it all, that is. smile
My brain doesnt feel up to much, lately.

I'm a passive passenger, I'm afraid.

StarDreamer Fri 08-Jul-22 10:53:49

It seems that we could add side trips to Rothenburg and to Ochsenfurt when we get to Würzburg, leaving Der Goldene Delfin moored at Würzburg while we travel overland on the side trips.

StarDreamer Fri 08-Jul-22 09:17:19

Der Goldene Delfin is 5 star too. smile

I have found this.

It provides information of some of the places on our route.

It really is the whole atmosphere, though.
It's all rather quirky and quaint, and I love that.
The walk around the palm garden that you posted was really relaxing.

MissAdventure Fri 08-Jul-22 00:36:23

I really enjoyed the church.
That beautiful woodwork and the ceiling.

The beautiful palm garden and that boat trip.
I swear I could almost feel the breeze on my face.

I found myself thinking "Oh good, it's not too hot, weatherwise, to be on the boat. smile

Not as such.

When we had the Astra analogue satellite television in the 1990s I was looking through the channels and I saw and heard some volksmusik and I liked the style and so I then often watched volksmusik programmes and I have found volksmusik on YouTube and I enjoy watching it, sometimes I just have it on and just here it when I am doing something else on the computer.

With the internet I can often find the lyrics and then get an idea of the meaning using Google translate.

I often put a playlist of music on full screen while I am eating my meals, as I do not need to concentrate on what is on as I would if I had the news on.

I am interested in the history of printing, particularly the incunabula period, and Mainz was where printing with moveable type started.

I was looking through a brochure on cruises and the one from Mainz along the river Main looked interesting with its historic towns that are not usually mentioned.

I am really enjoying this virtual cruise as participants are including things of which I never knew and might well have not known about otherwise, such as the side trip to Heidelberg and going into the church that was in the walking tour of Heidelberg, and the Palm Garden in Frankfurt.

I'm going to do the Offenbach walk now.

I meant to ask, stardreamer, do you have a love of Germany in particular?
Any reason why? (Don't say, if it's too intrusive) smile

MissAdventure Thu 07-Jul-22 14:12:49

That is lovely.
In the YouTube videos there are lots of people with a deep love of Germany.
It's easy to see why.

MissAdventure wrote The world is our... erm... I went say the word, due to this being strictly vegan.

How about

The world is our apricot

?

Mmm! smile

Looking at the map

LINK > en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_(river)#/media/File:Main-Karte-160710.jpg

the next place on our route is Offenbach am Main.

However, from

LINK > www.rome2rio.com/

Offenbach is only five miles from Frankfurt.

So Der Goldene Delfin is remaining moored at Frankfurt and we can continue to explore Frankfurt, yet we can also arrange trips overland to Offenbach too.

Happy to go anywhere, me.
I would like to have a look at some food, though.

Your pictures look great, Chewbacca

Chewbacca Wed 06-Jul-22 20:57:36

If everyone else is in agreement, I'd like to go to Frankfurt. I'd like to wander around the Old Town centre for an hour or so, have a coffee at an open air cafe and then go to see the Palm Garden.
