The suggested format is that this is a discussion thread about the places along the route, links allowed in moderation, any food mentioned is vegan. Sort of like a treasure hunt for information, yet no teams, people sharing what they find.

I love the Gutenberg express. smile
I would definitely go for a little tour on it.

Are you referring to this one?

This is the first video starting at 8 minutes 30 seconds in.

LINK > Carnival Fountain

It is not that clear on my laptop computer at full screen on its 13 inch screen.

Our cruise ship is due to depart tomorrow, Monday.

The cruise ship is due to depart from this side of the river Rhine, travel approximately southeast for a kilometre along the Rhine, as it does so crossing to the other side of the Rhine then entering the river Main.

The following may be helpful.

LINK > Google maps then search for

Gutenberg Museum Mainz

as that should place a red marker on the map as a guide to the location of the Gutenberg Museum and so the location of the river Main relative to where the walking tour videos have been going may be clear.

The following page is helpful to know the places along the route of the cruise.

LINK > Main River, including a map that can be enlarged

The following can be useful for planning shore excursions.

LINK > www.rome2rio.com/

Our first planned stop is Russelheim am Main.

Thank you.
I have taken a boat trip down the Rhine years ago.
I can barely remember anything about it, now.

Cruise participants can meet by the statue of Gutenberg and then travel to the cruise ship in style.

Excellent!
Thank you.
I like these small cruises, tailored to the passengers' personal wishes.

Chewbacca Sun 03-Jul-22 22:17:08

Mind if I tag along? If there's time, I wouldn't mind having a bit longer at the Gutenbergplatz national theatre?

MissAdventure Sun 03-Jul-22 22:32:31

Fine with me, and I'm sure stardreamer will be happy to have another passenger.

StarDreamer Sun 03-Jul-22 22:32:52

Hello Chewbacca, you are very welcome.

Chewbacca Sun 03-Jul-22 22:41:20

Where is first stop on the cruise?

MerylStreep Sun 03-Jul-22 22:48:40

That printing press took me back to the days of my apprenticeship, only that would be the proofing press. They’ve hardly changed. During my apprenticeship I had to Hoover the type cases. There was a special Hoover made for them.
We never thought about it at the time but there were male apprentices in the comp room but it was the females from the bindery that were called to do the job.
How times have changed ?

We stayed in the world's most uncomfortable tent alongside the Rhine.
My mum woke me up in the night, after I'd finally dropped off, because she could feel something furry on her head.

I shone the torch, and it was a cat all curled up on her head.
She looked like Davey Crockett!

Quite a few interesting castle around there that I wouldn't mind having a look at. Hochster Schloss looks particularly interesting.

MissAdventure Sun 03-Jul-22 23:17:18

I'm happy to sit at home and be transported anywhere to have a look. smile

StarDreamer Sun 03-Jul-22 23:20:45

Those stone blocks.

The image on the final one, I thought I had seen that one before somewhere, but I could not place it.

I made a guess, and I think I have found it.

Cruise participants might like to think about it before clicking the link below.

Best way to travel MissAdventure! No queues, no risk of covid infections and no squabbling about face masks! Perfecto! grin

Monday morning.

Our custom virtual cruise ship Der goldene Delfin is waiting on the river Rhine for us to arrive.

silverlining48 Mon 04-Jul-22 08:56:00

Oh the Rhine is very beautiful, all those centuries old castles high on the vine laden hills as you sail by, wonderful wine villages to stop and visit (be advised German dry white is slightly sweeter than we are used to,). Enjoy the trip.

StarDreamer Mon 04-Jul-22 09:36:31

Thank you.

Actually we are only going to be on the Rhine for about a kilometre, then we are due to proceed along the river Main.

Yet as Der Goldene Delfin is on the Rhine at the moment, here is a link to some music about the Rhine.

Der Goldene Delfin is now on its way towards Russelheim am Main.

silverlining48 Mon 04-Jul-22 10:35:19

Oh ? ok, if you don’t mind a really bad singer I know both those songs by heart, in German. Ready? Then off I go...
