Virtual cruise from Venice along the river Po with the option to learn some Italian

The suggested format is that this is a discussion thread about the places along the route, links allowed, together with the option of synchronised learning of some of the Italian language using the free Duolingo language course. Sort of like a treasure hunt for information, yet no teams, people sharing what they find.

LINK > www.duolingo.com/courses

Participants using Duolingo will need to register, free, with Duolingo.

Registering with Duolingo does, by default, make one's profile public. On a computer, one can make it private by clicking on the blue disc at top right, choosing Settings, scrolling down and then choosing Privacy Settings, then unchecking the checkbox that is labelled Make my profile public.

Actually the plan is to set off next Monday, after looking around Venice over the weekend.

I thought this best in case some participants migt be busy over the weekend.

When should we started going through the Italian course together? And at what pace? Maybe one lesson each day, which is perhaps what people would keep up doing. So each of those circles is anything from two to six lessons.

I am planning to reset to zero when the cruise gets underway.

I suppose it depends on how many people participate, though maybe some people will follow the thread and do the Duolingo course yet not post.

And we are also looking to find out about places in the valley of the river Po as we proceed.

It might work out well.

Well, I'm glad they've discovered this before we set sail on Friday!

An unexploded World War Two bomb submerged in an Italian river has been revealed due to an extreme drought.
The 450kg (1,000lb) bomb was found by fishermen on the banks of the depleted River Po.
The bomb was found by fishermen on the bank of the Po river and the unexploded device, which Italian military officials said contained 240kg (530lb) of explosive, was discovered near the Lombardy village of Borgo Virgilio in July.

Yes, I think it's possible to drag things on a phone.
Better on a newer one than mine, I expect.

Thank you.

Oh, well there are some videos of Bamberg in the river Main virtual cruise thread, including one of Bamberg cathedral, including going inside.

Two of the videos are POPtravel videos.

Oh, about 15 years ago now MissAdventure, But I doubt it's changed much. When I looked at the video that eGj provided, I spotted a cafe/bar, just at the top of the square, that I recognised having sat outside for coffee and cakes. I remember that it was eye wateringly expensive if you sat outside, rather than inside!

MissAdventure Mon 08-Aug-22 23:25:36

Have you been there, chewbacca?
In that watery cafe?? smile

eGJ Thanks for sharing that link; fab to watch, it felt just like being there again!

I do have an old washing up bowl, but I have seen online a collapsible, silicone type feet soaker.
It looks much easier than sloshing around a big bowl.

Again, silly, but I had a long hospital appointment and it's taken all my energy for now.

It would do my feet a power of good though, I know. (Amd probably make me feel better inyself)

StarDreamer Mon 08-Aug-22 23:20:04

Can one do the equivalent of a mouse drag on a mobile phone?

As in, can one drag the orange pegman in Google maps so as to link in to Google street view?

MissAdventure Mon 08-Aug-22 23:18:59

The link you put up just now worked without driving my phone into a frenzy, stardreamer.

I didn't try the earlier ones; I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's really tiring for me to do things like that these days. blush

MissAdventure

Ooh how I would love to feel that water lapping around my feet!
They are hot and swollen; I swear it would cure all my ills!

Could you get a washing up bowl at home and pretend?

Perhaps watch the video while you soak your feet! smile

MissAdventure Mon 08-Aug-22 23:15:28

Maw, does it do damage, like it does here when areas flood?

StarDreamer Mon 08-Aug-22 23:12:01

MissAdventure

Yes, that link works on my phone, but then my phone starts shuddering around, going onto all kinds of things it shouldn't, such as my contacts list, and the people I have spoken to or messaged.
It tries to message them, amdxo often does phone people when I I hadn't intended to.

Oh.

Did Google street view work the first way I wrote about?

That latest link uses the What Three Words system.

Is it sea water or rain water?

Or what please?

Acqua alta is the term used in Veneto, Italy for the exceptional tide peaks that occur periodically in the northern Adriatic Sea.

That is stunning!!
I never realised there were places like that. smile

I would love to sit there and have a drink, and soak my old feet in that water.

Definitely welly weather - even waders called for!
Memo to self, book hotel rooms on piano nobile or above! ?

And una vista migliore.

StarDreamer Mon 08-Aug-22 22:05:37

Wow, thank you for posting that, eGJ.
