I loved Marianne Faithful in my late teens and then loved her later recordings.

Who?

I think it was about a four year relationship with Jagger. Very unfortunately everyone in that milieu "did drugs" and she succumbed and became addicted and more or less stayed addicted for a long time , on and off.
She led a difficult ( despite her great beauty , possibly because of it) life very bravely, I think.
I didn't like her voice when she was younger but the older voice was quite well suited to the materiel that she later performed.
RIP Marianne.

Did she have an affair with Jagger?

Was it not a relationship?

I read her autobiography years ago, quite fascinating.

I saw her live in the 60s in a large theatre and was unimpressed by her voice, but she was pretty and looked like my younger sister.

When she came back at a later stage with "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan her voice was quite raspy different from her '60s era stuff, "As Tears Go By/This Little Bird" she kind of reinvented herself post Jagger but I think in between those two periods she was a heroin addict.

RIP Marianne Faithful, lovely lady, beautiful singer.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 30-Jan-25 21:03:26

She lived a very full life, certainly!

She was before my time, very attractive woman but listening to her songs on tv not a very good voice. She knew all the right people so got recognition I suppose. The swinging sixties was awash with recreational drugs and most bands and singers seemed to be part of it.
Even so, she lived to a good age.

Rula Mick looks rather glum but I like his non matching socks, a look I often go for. No point throwing away a perfectly good sock because its mate has bitten the dust.

She was so beautiful; I always wanted my hair to look like hers or that other 60s icon, Cathy McGowan (but it never did).

Lovely picture FGT2
One of the faces of the 60s, that wonderful era.

RIP Marianne Faithfull

such a beautiful woman who grew more interesting as she matured.. RIP

RIP Marianne. My now late sister and I used to model ourselves on her in the mid 60s
I can just see them together now wherever they are.

RIP xx

I don't know her later music. I know her from all the 60s stuff. Mick and Lady Faithfulll as the song says.

Deedaa Thu 30-Jan-25 20:07:44

I told my son that she was the same age as me and he pointed out that we had rather different lifestyles which is probably why I'm still here.

Grandma70s Thu 30-Jan-25 20:04:08

I knew her father slightly, when he was teaching Italian at Liverpool University. I think he had something to do with the folk song society, which one of my friends belonged to. We knew about Marianne. They were a very eccentric family.

M0nica Thu 30-Jan-25 20:03:31

I was at school with her. My sister, myself and Marianne all arrived at our new school in the summer term of 1957. She was 4 years my junior.

I remember a very pretty very clever and very talented girl, who could have done so much better in her life than she did.

kittylester Thu 30-Jan-25 19:53:21

Written by Janis Joplin but Marianne Faithful did a fabulous version.

Iam64 Thu 30-Jan-25 19:51:36

She was a beauty and was in a relationship with Mick Jagger. She had an interesting voice. Sadly, drugs got her for some years but she did go to rehab and succeeded

I love her version of 'Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz'.

Wasn't that Janis Joplin?

I thought she was much older as well.
She wasn't my style of music, but obviously popular.
RIP.
