I loved Marianne Faithful in my late teens and then loved her later recordings.

BlueBelle Thu 30-Jan-25 18:26:41

I thought she was older than me

kittylester Thu 30-Jan-25 18:29:57

She was 78.

RIP

kittylester Thu 30-Jan-25 18:31:47

I love her version of 'Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz'.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:31:57

Did she have an affair with Jagger?

maddyone Thu 30-Jan-25 18:32:43

I’ve just seen this on the BBC news.
RIP Marianne Faithful.

LauraNorderr Thu 30-Jan-25 18:33:08

So beautiful. Loved her looks and her voice. RIP Marianne.

Did she have an affair with Jagger?

Yes, she did.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:33:42

I always thought she was cool

merlotgran Thu 30-Jan-25 18:34:45

I didn’t rate her voice but she was one of the first rock chicks of her generation .

A beautiful girl.

RIP, Marianne.

Davida1968 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:38:23

OMG. Another 60s icon gone.....

TerriBull Thu 30-Jan-25 18:38:40

I'm sorry to read that she certainly "lived a life" full of ups and downs, one of the quintessential 60s girls, she was very beautiful in a fragile sort of way.

RIP Marianne

kittylester Thu 30-Jan-25 18:43:08

Just heard the Ballard of Lucy Jordan - fab.

Kate1949 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:45:49

I felt very sad when I read this. For those of us who were wrapped up in the 60s music, fashions etc, she was very much 'there'. A beautiful girl. I read her autobiography. RIP Marianne.

Rula Thu 30-Jan-25 18:51:43

Love this photo of her with Mick and Alain Delon , the most beautiful man to have walked the earth. In my opinion of course!

Kate1949 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:52:12

My husband said he was out with his mates when she appeared on TV, Top of the Pops or something, singing If You'll Come and Stay with Me. He said all the men in the pub fell silent and just gawped at the TV.

Patsy70 Thu 30-Jan-25 18:59:35

Beautiful Marianne. So very sexy and naughty - as the 60s were. She reminded me of Brigitte Bardot. Yes, she had an affair with Mick Jagger. RIP Marianne. ♥️

NotAGran55 Thu 30-Jan-25 19:08:15

She was very sexy indeed. As far as I remember neither of them were married, they had a relationship, not an affair?

Calendargirl Thu 30-Jan-25 19:11:15

My BIL will be sad.

Remember him saying as a young man, he played ‘As Tears Go By’ so many times it’s a wonder the record didn’t disintegrate.

What will Mick J be thinking?

sodapop Thu 30-Jan-25 19:11:24

A great 60s icon. RIP Marianne

LauraNorderr Thu 30-Jan-25 19:22:35

Played her albums a lot although I used to move the needle to the next track rather than listen to Sister Morphine, that track used to upset me.

Georgesgran Thu 30-Jan-25 19:26:26

Agree NotAGran55 Was it an affair if neither were married? The BBCradio4 news said she was his girlfriend.
Affair always sounds sleazy.

RIP Marianne.

charley68 Thu 30-Jan-25 19:28:25

I loved her too. What a voice. RIP

I love her version of 'Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz'.

Wasn't that Janis Joplin?

I thought she was much older as well.
She wasn't my style of music, but obviously popular.
RIP.
