RIP Marianne Faithful

BBC 4 Sessions.

She was on BBC4 in concert last night ( or it might have been the night before). I kept thinking of what someone said about Courtney Love ‘ she has a lousy voice but is a great vocalist’ ( or something like that, anyway….

I saw her as Ophelia in Hamlet at The Roundhouse many years ago.

She was surprisingly good. Nicol Williamson played Hamlet, he was surprisingly bad.

It is no surprise that Marianne was a good actor. She was always an academic high flyer, a gifted actress and musician, although she didn't actually have much of a voice. Whatever career she followed, she would have made her mark.

Her mother was an actor and dancer, driven out of the profession in Nazi Germany because she was half Jewish.

I love The Mercedes Benz song as well, hadn't heard Marianne singing it, did like her cover of Dylan's "It's all over now Baby Blue"

Marianne sang at our college ball in 1965. I danced in the arms of my lovely boyfriend, truly one of the happiest moments of our long life before us together.

I thought, who would pick Mick over Alain? But Marianne later described him as pompous and added a rude word to describe him.

She was a gutsy lady. From stardom in the 60s she went downhill after her split with Jagger but picked herself up and had a successful recording career. Her album 'Broken English' in 1979 was nominated for a Grammy award. RIP Marianne.

I thought she had the most boring voice on earth. Afraid she never impressed me at all - though I did not wish her any ill, and it seems she had some tough years.

I was sad to hear about Marianne, she was part of my teenage years, bless her. So many of the 60's icons leaving us, a stark reminder of how many years we have left. I loved As Tears Go By and also What Have They Done To The Rain, she had such a lovely voice.

Agree with MOnica. Never knew MF personally, but always felt she had so much going for her, and wasted so many opportunities.
Also, having read her autobiography (not ghosted; yes,she was clever and talented) it would appear that her maternal skills left a lot to be desired. Her son Nicholas was removed from her care because of her neglect and drug issues. It was only after he grew up, apparently, that they reconnected.

Oh yes ViceVersa. Hope she is. Love that song and loved hearing it in one of my top fav films - Thelma and Louise. RIP Marianne. Life may not have always been good to you but at least you lived it with a capital 'L'.

Hopefully she's riding through Paris in a sports car, with the warm wind in her hair...

I was in a Marianne Faithful lookalike competition. Needless to say I didn't win. We had to sing "As Tears Go By".

I didn't look like her but I had long fair hair with a fringe.

The winner was an even worse singer than I was but she was very pretty.
