Does any one use a Wii fit? I have just spent a great afternoon learning how to use my DD's Wii fit plus. The time went so quickly and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Roll on tomorrow for more fun. Can highly recommend it. Hopefully my weekly weigh in will improve smile

Well yes, we recently bought one, waited for visit from eldest son to set it up!! and had great fun formatting all the possible users, but I havn`t as yet had a go. I have heard several reports of them being excellent for helping in weight loss, and the games look really interesting.

I have lost over a stone in the last couple of months - our eldest getting married next year - so hope the Wii fit will help too. Let us know how it goes.

Well done BodhranBev on loosing that weight. Having a wedding to prepare for certainly encouraged me to loose weight a few years back!! It's the thought of those photo's isn't it!! I too am doing the Wii fit to aid my weight loss. Not sure if it is helping yet but it is great fun. Think it is good for fitness levels which can only be good. At the moment I do it straight after breakfast and I am motivated to do it, not sure how long that will last but I hope I can keep it up. Do have a go and see how it goes. It is fairly user friendly (must be if I can do it!!). Good luck. Do let me know how you get on.

Thinking of getting DH and I a Wii Fit but am sceptical about how much we'd use it. Many years ago I spent quite a lot on an exercise bike but mainly used it to deposit clothes on. It was so uncomfortable and boring to use. We've had fun playing games on the grandchildren's Wii with them, but would love to hear from someone who uses a Wii fit on a regular basis. What sort of activities do you do and how often?
Thanks, Rosie

Hi,
I got a Wiifit+ last summer and I absolutely love it and I have lost a stone and half in weight. (More exercise out, less food in, but not a lot less and certainly haven't been on what might be called "a diet".) It is very easy to do once set up, you can wear anything you like, don't have to trudge all the way to the gym and expose yourself to all those sticks working out there, it really is fab! Ours is permanently attached to the TV in the lounge so the only bit that needs moving ready for action is the balance board so it is really simple to get going. Go for it you'll love it. Designing your own character is fun too although getting grandchildren to help can have it's own reward. A spin off activity that is also excellent is to have a Wii evening when family come to visit when you have a short go on a variety of activities with hilarious results. Natually you will be beaten hands down by the g'children in some things but you can amase them with your skill in others. The activities I do regularly are step, hoola hooping, boxing, marching bands, assault course but also dip into others as the mood takes me.
Gosh I'm sorry I am really going on aren't I but hope you get the message?

I love my wii-fit when I am free of cough/cold, and really notice an improvement in my fitness levels e.g. walking up a steep hill isn't a problem. I enjoy the activities such as step, marching bands, boxing, etc., my favourite (which doesn't help fitness at all) is the snowball fighting. The balance exercises really improve balance, too, which is so important to prevent falls. Try to engage husband in this, but he is easily discouraged by slow times in the slalom!
I have tried a Nordic ski machine in the past, but found all sorts of excuses for not using it regularly and sold it off in the end. I went to a gym about ten years ago, hated every minute but certainly noticed the benefits in greatly improved fitness levels. If there are other people around, you have to do your full 20 minutes or so on the running machine, no getting off because you're tired!
Good luck with the Wii - I really find it enjoyable.

I love my wii-fit, i have only had it a week so I haven't lost any weight ...yet. The hardest thing I find to do is to on it is to keep my balance .
As I have a problem with my back my GP told me to try yoga as this will build up the muscles each side of my spine. There is yoga on the wii-fit and I also go to yoga class on a Saturday.
At the moment I find the jogging on the wii-fit the easiest by far, walking the tight rope is impossible grin

I like my wii fit, but I wouldn't say it had a huge impact on my weight reduction. I used it every day through the winter, but only a few times a week now as I get my work-out in the garden. I think the yoga and muscle exercises help with strength and balance, the hula hoop is good as is the step class. I start and finish with tennis and table tennis. In the winter I felt the bright screen was good and helped with winter blues. I think the weight / BMI is OK, but not hugely accurate. The patronising little voice drives me mad. Good for keeping in trim over the winter, but not exactly strenuous would be my view. I wish they would do pilates / tai chi.

Hope it's ok to resurrect an old thread. How are you previous Wii Fit users getting on 6 months on?

I have just decided to have a February New Year Resolution - to get a little fitter. I am also considering trying the 5-2 diet.

I haven't done any exercise lately, and am feeling very unfit. I have a 3 days a week sedentary job, and really want to build some regular exercise into my day, to get a little fitter for the summer.

I've got the Wii fit going again, which I do enjoy. I've even been doing about 4 goes at the basic step at 6am before I go to work. Makes me feel virtuous and a bit more lively for rest of the day.

Also just been for a muddy walk with my neighbour, then we had a joint go at the Wii, which was fun. I like to try and beat my previous score (or my husbands). Much better for me than a gym, as so convenient.

My next plan is to get my bike back on the road. It will kill me at first I know, but last time, after a few weeks, I could see an improvement in my legs.

Go sunflowers I think wii is a great way of starting to get more active. The balance games are also good. Must go and charge mine up and have a go..

My friend who had the stroke is part of a programme to test the effectiveness of using the Wii in addition to "standard" physio.

2 groups are involved, 1 is doing ordinary physio, the other ordinary physio plus some Wii sports. At the end of it they will be assessed by researchers who haven't been told which group the participants were in.

He is really enjoying it, although I have said to him that as he is doing it sitting down, it should be a Puu rather than a Wii.

sunflowersuffolk Thu 07-Feb-13 16:56:19

Yes Jess I love the penguins on the iceberg, but I'm rubbish at it! I can feel it when I've been doing the Hula Hoop one, which must be good.

I've set the calorie counter so I know when I've burned up 78 calories -1 piece of toast. It takes quite a while unfortunately, when you think how quickly you can eat that bit of toast.

Will be interesting to know the results of the comparison against standard physio.

The way I think, is that any activity I do is better than sitting watching tv etc.

Anne58 Thu 07-Feb-13 17:42:39

Our friend is doing tennis, baseball and golf, and is supposed to use his "bad" hand, i.e. the left one, as it was his left side that was most affected by the stroke. He is right handed, so finds it even more difficult to use his left hand.

However he is making fantastic progress. I stay over on Monday nights as his wife leaves for work very early on Tuesday morning.

This week he appeared downstairs about an hour and 15 minutes after I had taken him his tea (an improvement on last week , when it was taking him an hour and a half to shave, brush his teeth and get into his pants, trousers and shirt) and he had actually managed to do up the button and zip on his jeans!

I was so very pleased for him, as I know how much he hated having to have this done for him. He had also done up the buttons on his shirt, but a bit skew wiff. He and I joked about him looking like a badly wrapped parcel and agreed that it might be best if I re-did it.

I always tell him how much he has improved in the week since I last saw him (tell his wife too) because I suppose as they are both dealing with it every day, it is harder for them to see the progress he's made.

(Sorry, this thread is supposed to be about Wii fit, apologise for the hi jack!)

sunflowersuffolk Thu 07-Feb-13 17:58:23

Phoenix how wonderful to see what progress your friend is making, great news.

It must be awful to go from being fit and able, to suddenly unable to do anything for yourself, and having to reply on others for the simplest of tasks. very hard to come to terms with. Sounds like he is a fighter and determined to recover.

Smoluski Thu 07-Feb-13 18:40:17

Must get it out and do some exercise....not at all virtuos, must do some exercise [cant be arsed emoticon] winter inertia has got me sad

Galen Sun 10-Feb-13 11:35:56

Mines a second hand one and all the personae are taken, how to I clear them?

Charleygirl Sat 13-Apr-13 17:52:30

I am interested in buying one but could somebody please explain in words of one syllable exactly what I need to buy as I find the items rather confusing. I am not interested in playing games, just in losing weight.

Minder Thu 23-May-13 06:50:17

I was talking to someone about them last night at SW. Think I should get one too but I'm the same as Charleygirl, I haven't a clue what I should look for. A lady said she had bought one from ebay. I'm scared to get one in case it's the wrong thing and I've wasted my money.
