Good morning! Frost on the grass and sun screen lotion back in the cupboard. hmm

Glass is off on her travels but I'm sure she'll have all the satellites lined up so that she can still keep an eye on us!

Easter soon.....the year's whizzing by isn't it? Let's all make a big effort during the week, then we can ease off a little over the Bank Holiday. smile

Good luck everyone!

Hello,
Found reading all of your comments extremely encouraging.
One of my friends said she would describe myself as being 'nicely' rounded. This mean I am 'fat' and not liking it at all, especially as most of the 'fat' is located on my legs and hips. Have tried several diets but forget and over eat ,especially when stress.

I am 19 stone and moving to West Africa later in the year, and hope to get married there, but I also want to feel healthy so I am desperate to loose at least 3 st by November.
I am returning to the gym,at least x3 per week and also trying to reduce my intake, but i crave chocs, especially 'snickers'. I have changed several things in my diet but along the way of my good intentions i loose my way and then I am back to square 1.
I am very pleased to have found you and am now seeking your help ,support, words of encouragement etc. to achieve this.

Thanks

Nice to meet you fancyface, there will always be support and encouragement on this thread smile

Returning to the gym will be a big help in supporting your diet adjustments. We're always interested to hear about the types of food and meal changes that are being made and I'm sure you'll get lots of ideas from other people.

We're all familiar with the 'back to square 1' syndrome! By posting on this thread you've taken the huge step of acknowledging 'out loud' what you want and need to do. I've found this to be invaluable in stepping off the 'back to square 1' merry-go-round!

Chocolates. Mmmm. Well, there really isn't any alternative but to stop eating them. I know that you know that grin but it's easier said than done isn't it?

Good luck with this week then, and if you do 'lose your way' temporarily, don't give up, we've all been there and will support you to get back on track again. smile

I lost 2lbs last week, and I think all credit is due to Nordic Walking grin That takes me down into a lower stones category, which is always a lovely milestone!

GrannyK Tue 03-Apr-12 12:33:33

Help needed!

The good news is that as long as the weather holds out I can rely on the garden to help keep the weight under control .

The bad news is that I (correctly!) feared that reaching my target weight would make me complacent about eating. There have been a pret a manger " love" bar, the odd chocolate biscuit, rather too mainy raisins on the muesli etc etc .
This has to stop this week , as having got to my target weight ( from below , as a result of being ill!) I have now gone a pound over and feel I might go soaring back up again.

So difficult to keep things steady .

Notsogrand Tue 03-Apr-12 12:58:16

Don't worry GrannyK, we wont let you go soaring back up again!

(Runs off to find lassoo to tie on GrannyKs ankles)

Seriously though....a pound over is not a deal breaker. We all fluctuate up and down slightly for reasons that don't seem to be connected to our food intake. Wish I knew why! confused

You're absolutely right to raise it as an issue immediately and plan to do something about it. Very sensible smile Also, you've identified some of the reasons why that extra pound is there and what you need to do about it. So you're half way there!

So stay as strong and determined as we know you are, and come back here and yell if you need a bit of propping up.

I'm intrigued to know......what is a 'love' bar?

greenmossgiel Tue 03-Apr-12 15:28:00

Notso - that's a great feeling, when a 'lower stones category' is reached! I want to do that, too - then I think I'll just try and maintain my weight. That's a bit of a concern, though, as I may just start to go daft again - no, I won't, I'm making myself that promise! confused
fancyface, I do know where you're coming from when you say that you crave chocolates. I really do think that I have an addiction to chocolate. So, I don't have any. EVER! It was a bit hard to start with, but I think the fact that I've completely denied myself any chocolate has actually helped me to cut back on other treats. I've managed to get off over a stone and a half, and feel so much better. (Actually, if I'm REALLY honest, I did have half a large bar of Cadbury's Caramel at the cinema the other week, but that was because my husband was eating it, and it was too close - blush) If you fall off the wagon, fancyface, we'll help you climb back on again - good luck! smile

susiecb Tue 03-Apr-12 16:00:27

On the chocolate front I would have said I was a real addict eating chocolate daily, and loving choc cake, ice cream etc etc but since starting this diet last September I decided to go cold turkey on it as in the past it has crept in a I havent been able to lose weight so I only allowed myself a little at Xmas. Last night I made the slimming world chocolate truffles for the party we had a group and when I bit into one of the truffles it felt to me as though my mouth was full f fat so i discarded it. I think I might be cured of my addiction. Of my other great love - a glass of wine or six I have reduced that dramatically and find I feel quite tipsy on just one glass where it used to take me almost the whole bottle so i ma thinking that for some things extreme control if not abstention is the way for some of us.

greenmossgiel Tue 03-Apr-12 16:26:27

I agree with you, susiecb! I know that I really wouldn't be able to stop at just one chocolate, if I started again. My neighbours brought me back a box of Belgian chocolate truffles from their holiday last week, and normally I would have eaten them all more or less straight away (that's how bad I am)! confused

Notsogrand Tue 03-Apr-12 17:02:12

I so agree with everyone who prefers to completely go without chocolate/sweets etc!
I'm afraid I can't do modest amounts blush One chocolate or a thin slice of cake? A single jaffa cake or a tiny smear of butter? I don't have that level of control or discipline, it has to be all or nothing, so since June of last year I've opted for nothing.
Chocolate addiction? Well, because I was so fat, I was too embarrassed to buy chocolates at the supermarket where everyone could see them. So I used to deliberately only put a small amount of petrol in my car each time so I had an excuse to keep going back to the petrol station every couple of days. Bounty. Maltesers. Turkish Delight. Caramac. blah blah blah. Several at a time, all eaten alone, in the car, with scores and scores of wrappers stuffed into the door compartment. Sad or what?
But not any more. smile
(This feels a bit like an AA meeting when everyone stands up and says Hello, my name is Notso and I'm fat!)
grin

greenmossgiel Tue 03-Apr-12 18:23:07

Notso - I recognise (and identify with) what you're saying! I could eat and eat it! It's the texture of it, and the biting into it (OH GOD!!!), isn't it? I would go into the kitchen and take out a couple of chocolate biscuits, eat them quickly, then take a few more, and eat them as I went back into the living room, as if they were the only ones I'd got! And doesn't a Jaffa cake fit perfectly into the mouth in one go?
I can have none....none at all, or I'm lost! grin MY name is greenmossgiel and I'm fat!! (Though not nearly as fat as I was last year!) wink

Notsogrand Tue 03-Apr-12 18:40:12

Neither am I green wink

You are so right about Jaffa Cakes!

It's great to confess to the gluttony isn't it? grin

greenmossgiel Tue 03-Apr-12 19:18:15

Yes - it's like not being ashamed of your underwear in a communal changing room! grin

Sbagran Tue 03-Apr-12 21:20:41

susieb it was interesting to hear your reaction to eating the chocolate - I have posted on this thread before a practice I learned from Paul Mckenna. If there is anything you really crave but mustn't have, imagine it covered or filled with something revolting and suddenly the craving goes.
Warning! Don't read this next bit if you are eating grin
It has worked with me as I just cannot tolerate vomit so if I really crave a piece of cake or chocolate or whatever I imagine it covered in vomit and the rest is history! In your case susieb it could be enough to imagine a gross amount of fat?
Am so glad that the nibble-mission spies are working - it just came to me one evening and believe me - it is helping me too as I will have to confess as well!!!
This thread is really great and so encouraging - thanks notso for once again standing in for glass who I sincerely hope isn't having a glass or three grin

Carol Tue 03-Apr-12 21:48:11

GillieB Thu 05-Apr-12 12:42:22

I have weighed myself this morning as it is a week since I first stepped on the scales - am delighted as I have lost just over three and a half pounds since last Thursday. (The four lbs I posted earlier was a bit of a guess as I didn't dare stand on the scales when I started dieting again on 12th March - I knew I had lost weight, though, from my clothes). Am feeling very pleased with myself - just need to make sure I keep it up now. I always do very well and then lose interest and sabotage myself.

fancyface Fri 06-Apr-12 22:22:44

This is great news, and I wish you well. I am also 'trying' and like you I lose interest and sabotage myself. Don't quite understand why so I have started keeping a dairy to help me understand my moods, behavior and relationship with food.
